in an early avengers comic kang the conquerer said doom was his distant relative.kang's real name is nathaniel richards,reed's great,great,great,great grandson!

I'm pretty sure that they revealed Kang was lying to Doom.

Howver there still is a family tie.

Krtistoff is Doom's adopted child and Reed Richard's half brother.

All that means though is some relative of Doom and some relative of Reed end have a child at some point. Considering Kang is from far into the future, it is possible (see how many people can trace their ancestry to Genghis Khan for example).

So all in all Kang's liniage does not mean that Reed and Doom are related only that some relatives in the distant future do the nasty together.

There used to be speculation about other kids that Nathaniel Richards (Reed's father) had. Some of the hints were that he hooked up with a gypsy and that that led to Doom. Then they hinted at it resulting in Kristoff. I honestly don't think they ever confirmed that Kristoff was the son of Nathaniel.

Warbird is correct that the lineages can be reconciled if at some point the descendants of Richards and Doom mate.

In any case, Kang tends to lie a lot and at times it seems like he isn't even that certain of who he is. So the veracity of anything he says is debatable.

Kang must be a male-line descendant of Reed Richards. Apart from the Richards name, in Marvel Knights 4, Kang's illegitimate son Ramades shows up and causes trouble for the F4. He breaks into their base and bypasses the security systems, which are designed to attack anyone without Richards DNA. If Ramades is Kang's son, and Kang is a direct male-line descendant of Reed Richards, then they should all share the same Y chromosome, which would explain why Ramades didn't trigger the security systems.

And yes, it's entirely possible that Doom's nth great-granddaughter married Reed's nth great-grandson, and produced Kang.

i'm trying to find the issue but have had no luck so far. it dealt with Doom time-traveling to the past (medieval times) and having a daughter who married Dane's ancestor. Nathaniel Richards was a part of the story, as well.

I think when Doom met Kang, Kang told him that he merely took the name Nathaniel Richards after learning of Reed's father, who is constantly screwing with timelines. But Marvel has been weird with this, because some have hinted that Reed's father is Kang in some way (or becomes him).

In the issue of MA comeing out this week it is revealed that Doom uses time travel to have an affair with Morgan la Fey.
