View Full Version : I'm not dead - though it was a distinct possiblity for a few seconds there!

Thanks to a freak ice storm on Wednesday on the way up here to Hot Springs, I ended up facing the wrong way in a ravine off the side of the highway. Both the princess and I are uninjured aside from some very, very minor bruises. But the car is not only toast, but already taken to the salvage guy who gave me a whopping $300 for the car I still owe $1000 on. Unfortunately, that's all we could get out of the old girl, since I only had liability insurance.
Needless to say, it's been a rough week. However, I have once again proof that someone out THERE loves me and wants me to live:
1. The car came to rest against the ONLY tree in a 15 foot area that was strong enough to keep it from totally flipping over.
2. The first people to stop and help included a volunteer fireman and, right after, a nurse.
3. The wreck occurred only yards into the area where my cell phone started working again after a dead zone.
4. I managed to put it into the ditch at such an angle that the broken glass all went AWAY from Morgan and I.
and of course, the #1 thing:
We were only miles from Hot Springs, so Shel was able to come get us and I've been able to curl up and snuggle with the one person in the world that could truly keep me from falling apart.
OMG!
Sally, I'm so glad you're OK
HUGS to you (and the Princess).
dammit. . . try to stay safe!

I'm sorry about the car, but at least the two most valuable things in it are OK.

Thank Goodness you guys are okay!!!!! And yes, I think your Guardian Angels were allowed to help out on this one, and I'm very glad it was so.
And, may I add, you definitely have your head screwed on straight and your priorities in line---while the car and money parts suck, the fact that you put your and Morgan's safety as number one, and are counting your numerous blessings on how it came out... shows that you know what's most important in life. I know that's normal for you, hon, but I wanted to point it out because not everyone is like that... and they should be.
I remember after my first real accident, I was in shock and had hit my head... and the at-fault motorist took advantage of that to get me to leave the scene to go to her house (both vehicles were driveable---she hit me in the driver's side of our minivan). When I called him about the accident, my first husband spent ten minutes yelling at me for leaving the scene... before FINALLY stopping to ask if Meg and I were okay (she was three at the time).
That, more than anything else, told me I was with the wrong man... and I fixed it not long after that.

I'm not sure if you are the luckiest or unluckiest person on the planet. Either way I thank god that you and your daughter are okay. Both of you are special people and it would have been a real blow to the world if anything had happened to either of you.

Definitely the luckiest, at least right now. :) The way events played out, if even one of those circumstances had been the slightest bit off... someone would've gotten hurt at the very least. Losing a car sucks, but it's replacable. Lives aren't. :)

Not to make light of a truly horrific incident, where thankfully everyone came out unscathed, but if she was truly lucky the incident wouldn't have happened. That said I do think there is a higher power watching out for her, and thank god for it.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! We are back in the swing of normal life and hope to acquire a new vehicle as soon as Friday.

You should have seen it before we taped up the back window!
What you can't see is that the frame was bent enough that the interior molding around the rear window actually stuck up out of the busted rear window.
Speaking of, how ya like that duck tape and visquene repair job?

Damn, Steph. I'm glad to hear you and Mini stalker are o.k. You two are definitely lucky. Word of advise, don't get your new ride at CarMart, lol. You'd be better of to keep driving the Sable.
