Finding out that James Langton (who read Lloyd Alexander's PRYDAIN books) would be doing the audio versions of my novels was a delight; but actually hearing them come to life is amazing. I finally get what Neil Gaiman's always talked about regarding the readings his friend Lenny Henry does of his books.

For your audio pleasure, I present the sample clips now online:

HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS (http://www.simonsays.com/content/book.cfm?tab=1&pid=537506&agid=5)

and

THE SEARCH FOR THE RED DRAGON (http://www.simonsays.com/content/book.cfm?tab=1&pid=537508&agid=5)

(The links take you to the S&S page where you can choose a format).

Gorgeous stuff.

Dude, I TRIED. But he kept asking for PERKS. So we got stuck with the classically-trained Scottish actor.

I just don't have enough pull yet, I guess.

My copy of The Search for the Red Dragon arrived today - an excellent read. I really enjoyed the twists on Greek mythology and the characterization of Richard Burton.

Anybody else pick it up?

I'm glad you liked it - because I'm not done with Burton yet...

Oh good, he has a lot of potential and I'm quite interested to find out

What happens next with the Indigo Dragon and whether or not the Imperial Cartographical Society is going to be an ongoing thorn in John's, Charles' and Jack's sides.

Otherwise, I guessed correctly on Daedalus being a bad guy when he appeared, and I had no clue that Mordred was the King of Crickets.

Oh, and the illustrations are gorgeous, I particularly liked the fates, the wolves and Asterius.

Regarding the ICS:

The subtitle of Book Four might just as well be "The War of the Caretakers".

As I understand it, this coming October. We're talking about an insane person. And at this pace, Book four will be out not two whole years away, but rather October 2009.

(Yes, this is shilling for a friend. But I'm not paid or otherwise compensated for it. ;) Well.... not for the shilling, at least.)

Dude, you don't want to know how far he's outlined this. Needless to say, James is very impressive with the detail and planning he puts into each book. To say it's impressive is an understatement.

Okay. that means Book 4 will be out in 1.83333333333333 years.

So that means the Book 4 won't be out for TWO (rounded up) YEARS!;)

:) Yes I do. The level of the detail in the books is one of the reasons that I love the first two and one of the reasons that I bought three copies of the "Red Dragon" (since I was ordered that they WILL be Christmas presents even if delayed.)

I hate the wait myself - which is one of the reasons I'm serializing the PREQUEL to the novels in the new STARCHILD: MYTHOPOLIS II series.

The first issue is in comics shops right... now...

Every time I visit Coppervale, I sit in James' studio, and we swap stories and jokes. On the blotter in front of me is always something like:

10:38 anecdote begins
10:39 Larry makes a pun
10:39:30 James makes counterpun
10:40 anecdote continues
10:41 anecdote concludes
10:41:20 post-aneccdote laughter ends, Larry makes joke

...and so on. James is very precise with his planning.

I must be a chaotic influence, then. Because on my visit, we missed the initial connection, phone messages were left, reconnection was haphazard (but successful), nobody paid attention to the clock, and in the morning session, I ended up spending much more time talking with Josh & Jeremy, as the Mad Genius actually needed to work (not that talking with Josh & Jeremy was a bad thing - not at all, enjoyed it immensely! ;) ). But he did pull himself away from the Scheduled WorkTime when I (sort of) set out. (It was "sort of", because after leaving the studio, Josh showed me the bookstore, and we spent another hour talking! Hee.)

However, as a control freak myself, I do recognize that I've been beat out by Mr. Owen. He will out plan you! :D

Actually, in reality it went like clockwork.

But, to save my cat, I had to agree to let Mephisto take away the memory of your visit.

I had a lot of fun and you better finish those stories you talked about. I really want to read them sometime.
