i am currently in the market for a new games console. i already own a wii, but however am also in need of a more standard gaming style which is brought by the 360 and ps3. having been an owner of a ps2 i am currently drifting towards the ps3, however am unsure of which is better. can any owners of the 360 or ps3 help advise me in which one is the better gaming console.

I prefer the 360, but mostly because that's the console that has enough good games to be worth purchasing right now. The games and the price.
PS3 should hopefully close that gap in the next year. 2008 will bring things to more of an even playing field.
I'd wait till then to decide.

At the moment I'd pretty strongly recommend the 360.
After a chunk of the year is out that may change, but for now...

Pick the one that has more games that you want to play.
Which is probably the 360.

Currently, the Xbox 360 has the largest library of games and the best online support while the PS3 has a much smaller library of games that are often of lower quality than the same games on the Xbox.
However, in a year, all this may change once developers start to figure out how to make games for the PS3 and take advantage of its internal hard-drive, which is only optional on the XBox--meaning that no game made for the XBox can require a hard drive to play it. This, along with the Blu Ray DVD player included in the PS3 could give it an edge in the coming year.
Right now, though, the PS3 is an expensive paper weight compared to the XBox 360.

I recently bought a 360 after ten years of Playstation allegiance. So far I've only played one game, Mass Effect, but its the game I wanted to play and its not on the PS3. In fact the PS3 right now doesn't have a single exclusive game that I have any desire to play whereas the 360 has three or four exclusives that I'm eagerly looking forward to after Mass Effect.

I'd say the only reason to buy a PS3 now is if you want Metal Gear Solid 4 or one of the other few exclusives ... that haven't even been released yet. Otherwise, bad choice. Go with the 360.

The 360 offers more choices, and better on-line support then the PS3 as of now. That may change during the upcoming year, but for now, the Xbox 360 is the better of the two choices.

My brothers brand new X-Box 360 has been smashed to the floor twice since Xmas day due to my sister and the dog tripping over its stupid cable having to plug in to go online, the second time breaking his Halo 3 disc. £60 for a wireless rerouter? What's up with that?! Even the Wii does standalone wireless connection!
And if he can't go wireless then he has to stay in the room with the computer right by...he's highjacked my TV and my Wii space!!

I bought the PS3 and don't regret it. The PS3 is pretty much for people who know they want a PS3, though. If you're on the fence I'd definitely say go 360.

If must have one right now and a number of qualilty games to go with it then its the 360 without a doubt.
But if you can wait for FF13, DMC4, or MGS4 then get the PS3, cause while it's library isn't up to par with the XBox it does have some worthwhile games to choose from.

DMC4 is also coming to the 360.

I really don't have any faith in the 360's hardware. Out of my five friends that bought a 360, four of them had to get it fixed. Two of them have done that multiple times. I'm sure this is an extreme case because I've spoken to many that have never had a problem with their 360s but I don't trust the hardware.

PS3 has Unreal Tournament 3 and it supports user mods, the 360 version will not
right now though imo the 360 is better but that could change soon

Also a lot of the 360 games will eventually come out on the PC. SO if you don't need to play the hotest games right away, I would suggest a PS3. But it really depends on whether you care about using it as a Blu-Ray player, if you like the games that are already available and if you have to play other games like Mass Effect or Halo right away.

My PC version allows me to make those mods kid.
Anyways. I own both platforms, the PS3 and the XBOX360. As of this moment, the 360 has more games that I, personally, am compelled to play. There's something for everybody on that platform. Like FPS games? Get Halo3. Like RPGs? Get Mass Effect. Like Action/Adventure with a hint of Randian discourse? Get Bioshock. Furthermore, most multiplatform games are slightly better on the 360 (better frame rates, slightly less in the way of aliasing/screen jaggies, and an arguably better controller)
That said, I love my PS3. It's one of the best Blu-Ray disc players on the market. It's actually almost as good as the high-end £1000 Pioneer BR Player. It also has an impressive array of media streaming features, and the high-end models even sport memory card readers so that you can experience your multimedia content on your big-screen TV. In addition it has a fairly compact but quality line up of AAA titles (Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and the forthcoming MGS4)
if you don't need to play the hotest games right away, I would suggest a PS3.
That's hardly a glowing endorsement.

I can see why owning a PS3 later this year will rock. But the sad fact is that the few games you would want to play on that system are available on either the 360 the pc or both. What I would do in your situation, is what I'm going to do later today. Purchase a 360 and pick up a PS 3 when Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 come out.

I prefer XBOX 360. I don't see many great games for PS3 at the moment

You know I have not even seen a PS3 in person yet. I heard they lowered the price but it is the price tag that is stopping people from buying it (I believe). I love my 360. I had always been a nintendo fan until the 360. I still love my wii, but the games and graphics on the 360 are incredible so far. If I had to do it again I would buyt a 360 again, only I would get a bigger hard drive.
