As promised at the conclusion of this year's Comic Book Idol, here is the first part of the continuation of the play-at-home thread!
Here's the concept:
Write a three page script utilizing some character, team, or plot device decided upon by the winner of the previous Sequential Art Challenge. Writers will have approximately two weeks to submit their scripts. At the conclusion of the submission period we will hold a brief vote to decide which script will be used in the Sequential Art Challenge.
The first theme, suggested by polystyleneman, is "Marvel Vs. DC." How that's interpreted is entirely up to you.
Using the winning script, artists will submit their sequentials and, after a couple weeks, they'll be voted on as well.
There are no rules, other than following the theme and making the deadline, or prizes, so those of you just wanting to have fun shouldn't be discouraged from participating, even if you are unsure of your talent.
For this first round, scripts will be Due on Thursday, January 10 by Midnight EST.
So have fun!
This first round is really a test run, so feel free to ask questions or make further suggestions as we get into it.

Cool...not sure if I'll have time to submit anything, but are we looking at using full scripts or just plot scripts? Or either?

I'm thinking that's up to the writer but, since the Sequential Art Challenges won't require dialogue/captions, plot scripts would suffice. I'd say get as detailed as you want the art to be, with the understanding that since artists will be voting on these they may opt to vote for scripts that afford them more room for interpretation.
If anyone's still unsure, feel free to refer to the scripts used in this year's actual CBI challenges for suggested formatting.

Marvel vs. DC, #1
“The Self and the Shadow”
Written by ThePhenom
Page One
1/ The comic begins with a man standing in front of his mirror, the man is recognisable as the Sentry. He has a look of desperation, something in his eyes longing for something more or something missing.
CAPTION: It is out of the deepest depth that the highest must come to its height.
2/ The start of the set of three small interconnecting panels. A distinctly dark motif covers him as the scene tries to convey a meaningless existence, the Sentry stands in the shower…
CAPTION: Whoever said that…
3/ …brushes his teeth…
CAPTION: …spoke profoundly, but still despite my depth…
4/ …changes into his distinctive yellow costume, all throughout maintaining no sign of emotion.
CAPTION: …I have yet to find my height.
5/ The shot conveys a change in rooms, Sentry walks between his bedroom in front of his bathroom and the dark motif is cut by the bright red of his answering machine (in the background the same mirror from before can be seen, but is not reflecting Sentry instead a man who looks similar with short brown hair).
PHONE: Robert, Tony here. Get to Lexington and 42nd asap. We have an early morning red alert and I haven’t even got my coffee yet.
6/ The panel switches between the dark motif and the morning blue sky, it is the barrier as Sentry flies out of the Watchtower onto New York City.
CAPTION: With that I’m forced to leave my deepest depth, my fortress of solitude.
Page Two
1/ This panel practically continues from where the last ended, the Sentry is landing onto the scene of the commotion and a number of androids can be seen, generically indistinct. The Mighty Avengers are individually fighting a number of them each.
SENTRY: What’s the status on the situation?
2/ The shots are much further grounded now, the most notable in shot are Iron Man shooting androids with his arm lasers in the background, Wonder Man and Ms. Marvel double team another and the bulk of this shot is the Sentry punching an android to enter the fray.
IRON MAN: We don’t know who they are, where they came from but we know we have to put them down before they become a major public threat.
3/ Ms. Marvel is seen throwing an android in the background toward the foreground where the Sentry is standing.
MS. MARVEL: Can you catch Rob?
4/ The android hits the Sentry square in the head, the impact shot is hard and Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man and Iron Man look on from the background seeing what has happened.
WONDER MAN: Ouch! That’s gotta smart.
IRON MAN: Ms. Marvel, we don’t need to give them an advantage and when we’re on the field we use our codenames.
5/ The Sentry shakes the hit off and looks off in the distance, sort of half turning toward Iron Man, whose armour in the panel looks distinctly black with little protrusions out of the top.
SENTRY: Iron Man, I’m fi--
6/ The Sentry has a look of confusion at what he saw, but the same panel has an android grab him from behind showing that he was truly caught off guard.
ANDROID: Target acquired.
7/ The android gets something right through its head and out the other side, someone from the top of a building is in view and Sentry looks up to see a man in green with a bow and arrow.
Page Three
1/ The androids lay scattered all over the block now, the situation having been averted, the Sentry continues to look up to where the man in green was, unsure of what he had seen.
SENTRY: Tony, did you just see someone up on the building? I think Hawkeye may have saved me.
2/ The shot shows Iron Man and Sentry look at each other, Iron Man looking down a little while Sentry looks confused.
IRON MAN: I don’t think Widow will appreciate it if you give her credit to ghosts.
SENTRY: I’m sure that was not the Black Widow up there. I saw a man in green.
IRON MAN: Are you feeling alright Robert?
SENTRY: Erm, yes I’m fine, it’s probably nothing.
3/ The Mighty Avengers stand around the bulk of the defeated androids appearing to look around for something in particular.
MS. MARVEL: Any brain or anything we can salvage and track?
WONDER MAN: They’re torn to shreds. We can maybe sell them for scrap.
4/ Hercules has picked up the head of one of the androids.
HERCULES: What of this?
5/ Hercules, Iron Man and Sentry are standing around the dismembered but in tact head of one of the androids. Its lights are still functioning and its speaker clearly still works.
ANDROID: Target acquired, number six hundred and sixteen, numerals six one six. Correct target confirmed, creating communicative link.
6/ Now all the Mighty Avengers have gathered around the head, they all seemed bewildered and confused by it, all just standing there to listen.
IRON MAN: This is like nothing I’ve ever seen. This technology is just completely foreign to me.
MS. MARVEL: Do we send it back to S.H.I.E.L.D. for testing then?
IRON MAN: That would be the best c--
7/ The android’s screen turns into an actual image, an image of a bald man, the Sentry looks at it shocked, perhaps the most shocked of anyone there.
BALD MAN: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you Robert Reynolds. I’ve been trying to communicate with you for a very long time. You look at me grimly? But after all for out of the deepest depth the highest must come to height.
8/ The Sentry looks completely shocked at the man on the screen, the rest of the Mighty Avengers continue to look bewildered.
SENTRY: How did you-- Who are you?
BALD MAN: Well to clear up your confusion from earlier that was Friedrich Nietzsche, and to answer your current question, my name is Lex Luthor and I need your help.

Nope, just three pages. Enough to give artists enough to draw for the resulting Sequential Art Challenge.

Nice entry! Anyone else?
Bouncing Boy
01-08-2008, 08:46 PM
Here's my entry. The obvious choice for me was to go with my favorite DC character and my favorite Marvel character.
Bouncing Boy vs. Ultimate Spider-Man
Page 1
Panel 1: Establishing shot of a time bubble going through the time-stream. The bubble is being piloted by Bouncing Boy. By his side is his wife Duo Damsel.
Panel 2: Medium shot of Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel in the Time Bubble. Duo Damsel is leaning on her husband’s shoulder.
Duo Damsel: This is a great idea for our anniversary Chuck. A second honeymoon in the 21st century.
Bouncing Boy: Of course! All my ideas are brilliant ones, especially the decision to marry you Lu.
Duo Damsel: It’ll be great to see Kal again.
Panel 3: A Close up shot of Bouncing Boy’s face. He has a mock look of irritation on his face.
Bouncing Boy: Must you always parade your old boyfriends in front of me?
Panel 4: Duo Damsel has split into her two bodies. She has Bouncing Boy surrounded. He has a smirk on his face.
Duo Damsel 1: He was never my boyfriend, he was just a childhood crush that I’m way over now.
Duo Damsel 2: Besides, you’re the one I married.
Bouncing Boy: I know. And that was one of YOUR more brilliant ideas.
Panel 5: Close up of Bouncing Boy piloting the Bubble.
SFX: BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Bouncing Boy: Hmm, there seems to be something wrong with the bubble. Hold on, we could be in for a bumpy ride.
Page 2
Panel 1: An establishing shot of Midtown High School.
Mary Jane (V.O.): Peter are you even listening to me?
Panel 2: The interior of the Midtown High Cafeteria. Peter Parker is sitting at a lunch table with his nose in a book. His girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson is sitting across form him. Behind Peter, at another table you can see Kitty Pride sitting with Kenny “Kong” McFarlane. Kong appears to be telling a joke and Kitty is laughing.
Peter: Hmm? Oh sorry. I was catching up on my studying. I didn’t get a chance to study last night because of my…extracurricular activities.
Mary Jane: Oh please, you’ve had your nose in a book since the first day I met you. It’s one of the things I love about you…or hate, I haven’t quite decided.
Peter: Heh, so what did you say that I so rudely ignored?
Panel 3: A medium shot of Mary Jane, Peter is seen with his back to us. He no longer has his nose in the book.
Mary Jane: What I said was, “Aren’t Kenny and Kitty a cute couple?”
Peter: Are you asking only because Kitty’s my ex-girlfriend?
Mary Jane: NO! Well not only because of that. I just think they look cute together.
Panel 4: Medium shot of Peter.
Peter: Actually I agree. And he’s better suited for her too. He worships her. I was never really able to fully give her my heart because it already belonged to you.
Mary Jane: That’s sweet.
Panel 5: Double shot of Mary Jane and Peter.
SFX: BOOOOM!!!
Mary Jane: Sounds like you’re needed Tiger. I’ll make an excuse for you if you’re not able to get back in time for class.
Peter: That’s why I love you MJ, you’re always willing to be my alibi.
Panel 6: Peter is in his Spider-Man costume swinging out to the front of the school.
Page 3
Panel 1: The front lawn of Midtown High School. The pieces of the Time Bubble lay everywhere. Bouncing Boy is standing in the wreckage. One of Duo Damsels bodies is unconscious, the other one is tending to her. Spider-Man swings into the scene.. He is ready to kick into Bouncing Boy who is holding up a hand trying to stop him.
Spider-Man: If you’re going to try to blow up a school. Don’t interrupt lunch time to do it. At least wait until class has started up again.
Bouncing Boy: Wait!
Panel 2: Bouncing Boy’s warning came too late, Spider-Man kicked into BB sending him backwards. By this time Duo Damsel has absorbed her other body
Panel 3: Bouncing Boy had instinctively inflated into a ball and ricochets off of a the front of the school.
Panel 4:: Bouncing Boy crashes into Spider-Man whose spider sense is tingling
Spiderman: *thinking* OOOF, I wasn’t expecting that. Didn’t even have time to react to my Spider-Sense.
Panel 5: Bouncing Boy is standing over Spider-Man who was knocked to the ground. Kitty’s hand is tapping Bouncing Boy’s Shoulder.
Kitty: Excuse me…
Panel 6: Kitty is punching Bouncing Boy who is flying backwards again
Kitty: I’d appreciate it if you didn’t beat him up. He may not be my boyfriend anymore, but we’re still friends.
Panel 7: Kitty is being tripped by Duo Damsel’s Leg.
Panel 8: Duo Damsel has split again. She is ready to attack.
Duo Damsel 1: And we’d appreciate it if you didn’t beat up our husband

Doomsday Commeth
by _iron_man_
No dialogue or captions. Panel descriptions describe the basic story. Sorta rushed. This story takes place post WWH, whatever time DC.
Page 1
1-The opening page will have a large panel of a laboratory. In the center of the lab is Doomsday in a cryogenic like sleep (in a tank). With his head covered in probes. All around him a huge super computers and other scientific devices. On a table is a chunk of his bone.
2-In the same lab the angle is turned to show Superman looking at Doomsday. Super Man is holding a device in both hands.
3- Superman is now next to the pod(close view. Only back of head and hand visible.) He has his hand on a large red button with black and yellow stripes around it. On a monitor above the button the words “Stasis Interrupted” and rapid bubbles should be in the tank floating to the top.
4-Same shot except all of the liquid is now drained.
5- Same shot except now Superman’s hand is off panel and Doomsdays eyes are wide open.
Page 2
1-A shot of Superman using the device on Doomsday which is like a giant laser beam totally engulfing him but at the same time sucking him into the device.
2-Doomsday is now floating down a psychedelic like river and seems distorted and stretched.
3-A scene of a different laboratory. This lab has a large portal like gate with scientists around it.(Reed should be visible by some body part being stretched. Iron Man(Hulkbuster armor) Mandroids and Director Hill as well.) A giant metal container is between the scientists.
4-A close up of a monitor “Dimensional Ripple commencing”
5- A close up of the top of the crate with Bruce Banner inside visible through a glass door. Banner, Bruce should be visible somewhere on the crate.
6-The Portal turns on with a gust flowing outward(show this through dust and the clothes of the scientists)
Page 3
1-Same panel as 6 except the room is filled with a red glow signifying an alarm and everyone should look alarmed. (scientists inspecting the computers, people pointing at places, etc)
2-A close up of one of Doomsday’s feet stepping through the portal.
3-A close up of Doomsday ramming through the crowd. People soaring through the air, Mandroids struggling to stop him, Reed stretching towards him and Iron Man Catching some debris. With the crate crushed in two.
4-A shot of some Mandroids and Reed on top of Doomsday’s back. With one of the mandroid’s leg being grabbed, one Mandroid being stepped on. Iron Man being hit with a mandroid thrown by Doomsday’s other arm. In the lower part of the panel A blurry green mass should be forming. (Hulk)
5-A shot of a yelling Hulk with classic ripped pants on. He should be looking at Doomsday off panel with his palms upward and fingers bent slightly.
6- Larger panel with Hulk and Doomsday Grappling. Most mandroids smashed in background and Iron Man in between the two. Reed can still be hanging on Doomsday for humor, or not.

I'm not going to provide dialogue and thought balloons, just a plot summary with art direction.
Page 1:
Panel 1-2--Two side-by-side panels covering about a third of the page. The first shows two men in business suits shaking hands. Mr. Wilkins, a tall, blond, handsome fellow (sort of like Aquaman), and Mr. Sears, a shorter, dumpy, brown-haired man (sort of like Foggy Nelson). In the second panel, Wilkins, with an excited look on his face, slaps Sears on the back. That excited, lively look shouldn't fade in any facial shots of Wilkins on this page or Page 2.
Panel 3--Flowing from the movement in Panel 2, Wilkins--one hand still on Sears's back--reaches his other hand skyward much like one showcasing something (like a car salesman or a ringmaster). The facility is large and mostly metal. However, they are frequent glass domes and panels that show a variety of life. It's a facility holding various beings of the Multiverse, so feel free to fill any see-through areas with familiar characters that suit the scene, save Marvel and DC characters.
In this panel, they should be in a hallway and there should be a space either to the left or right from which Sears could have entered.
Page 2:
Panel 1--Wilkins and Sears stand in front of a glass barrier containing a familiar figure.
Panel 2--Wilkins moves to the door beside the previous display, standing next to it and looking like he's explaining what's behind the door, as he is.
Panel 3--A close-up on Sears, who is listening to Wilkins explain some more.
Panel 4--Sears points behind himself at a door at end of the hallway.
Panel 5--Wilkins is guiding Sears to that door, hand on his shoulder and the two close together. Wilkins is a very buddy-buddy salesman. Wilkins is still talking.
Panel 6--Wilkins moves to open the door still explaining things.
I'm envisioning three panels, then a wide panel, and then two more panels.
Page 3:
Panel 1--A page shot of various Marvel and DC characters fighting. Run wild. Throw in as many characters and actions as you want.
Panel 2--An inset panel at the bottom of the page of Mr. Wilkins holding the door shut (as if he just shut it) with a nervous look on his face.

Out of curiosity, how is the winner chosen? Judges or voting by members of the boards? Maybe unlike say the Avatar conteston the community board, people who entered shouldn't be allowed to vote.

had to give it a shot. here goes nothing...
Page 1
This page should be a huge shot of Wolverine perched on a rooftop with all of Gotham sprawled out in front of him. In the lower right-hand corner should be a small box with a headshot of Wolverine.
Wolverine: *thinking* Gotham...Looks like a town that might'a seen a wild night or two. My kinda place.
Page 2
Start with a small series of frames showing Wolverine making his way through Gotham by rooftop and alleyway.
Wolverine: *thinking* How I wound up here ain't what's important right now.
Wolverine: *thinking* Now I only care about two things: findin' the piece 'a junk I'm lookin' for...
Now a scene of Wolverine roughing some local thugs, somewhat desperate, looking for information.
Wolverine: *thinking* ...and figurin' out who's got both the skills and the stones to be followin' me this close so soon after I hit town.
Then a shot of Wolverine looking back over his shoulder, sniffing, and letting out his claws.
Soundeffect: SNIKT
Page 3
Wolverine: *thinking* Of course, when you're the best there is at what I do, you tend to attract unwanted attention.
Wolverine turns around and assumes a battle-ready stance, claws splayed out threateningly.
Wolverine: What's the deal, bub, you got nothin' better to do on a Friday night than to run around playin' cat and mouse with me?
Batman comes lurking from the shadows.
Batman: What are you doing in my city?
Large panel of Batman and Wolverine facing off, both looking very menacing.
Wolverine: You some sort of detective?
Batman: Something like that.
-end-
I'm not married to the layout. I am always open to an artists interpretation. Screw with it if you want.

It'll be a poll. Really, it's really not that serious a contest. If participants all vote for themselves it really won't make a difference so I don't see the harm in it.

I think it's safe to say that GLover's is the best. He's got a great sense of character. Wolverine sounds like Wolverine, and Batman sounds like Batman. And the pages aren't cluttered.
Less get this show on the road. I'm ready to draw.
