It kind of snuck up on me when I was listening to a playlist on my road trip, yesterday, but let's put together a playlist of all songs about prison(breaking out, being stuck in, etc.)

The only catch is no repeating an artist. Johnny Cash fans, I am looking at you.

A Start:
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash
Caught By the Fuzz - Supergrass
Tillamook County Jail - Todd Snyder
Rebels of the Sacred Heart - Flogging Molly

It's probably not what you're expecting, but I thought it might be appropriate to post this.

The most powerful one I can think of is:

"Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos," by Public Enemy.

Let's see... "Midnight Special" was inspired by the train that ran near a prison at midnight - the legend among the prisoners was that if the train's headlight shone directly on your cell, you would be released soon. Thus the lyric, "Midnight Special, shine your light on me".

Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock" deserves a mention.

Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" mentions being in prison, but isn't really about being in prison.

And in the older-than-the-oldies category, there's "If I Had the Wings of an Angel", which I learned from a Sing Along with Mitch Miller record when I was a kid.

Does Tool's Prison Sex count? As much as System of a Down's "Prison Song", I'd guess.

'Tie A Yellow Ribbon' by Dawn. It's about a man who is soon to be released from prison, and if his lover ties a yellow ribbon around an old oak tree, it will be a sign that she still loves him; and if she didn't do it, it means she's moved on.

'Jailhouse Rock' is playing on T.V. RIGHT NOW. The movie reminded me I had to post in this thread. :D

I'd probably go with "Sing Me Back Home" for Hagg. About a man on death row.

Jonathon went with "Branded Man" but that's more about the stigma of being an ex-con.
