View Full Version : Any good Xbox games I missed?

We gots us an X-Box 360, but never had an Xbox. I thought it might be productive and cheap to go back and get some Xbox games I never had a chance to play while waiting for things like the Orange Box and Mass Effect to age enough to get them used at a discount. I prefer used games because the warranty is better.
So I have KOTR and Jade Empire. I'm considering Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, which I can pick up for about five bucks, but I noticed there was a game of the year edition that had the two expansion packs included. It's closer to 15.
Five dollars is an impulse buy. Are the expansion packs worth the extra ten bucks? It says in the promotional stuff on Amazon that they add an extra 80 hours of gameplay, but if it isn't good gameplay, I'm not sure I'd want it.
I tried Halo for the PC when it came out, so I'm not interested in that. I did pick up Burnout 2 and I'm having fun with it--it isn't as pretty or as varied as Revenge for the 360, but it is fun.
What other original X-Box games am I missing that are good?

I'd say go ahead and get the GOTY Edition, it does add a good amount of new content.
As far as other games, Ninja Gaiden is a must if you enjoy action games and if you enjoyed Burnout 2, you should check out 3, it's the best of the series.

Best platformer no one played. You can purchase it from the marketplace.

I smack myself for forgetting about that lost gem. Also, if you don't mind rail shooters Panzer Dragoon Orta is pretty awesome.

Ninja Gaiden (Black). On the 360 it looks close or better than many earlier 360 games imho, and it plays absolutely beautifully.

Only problem with Panzer is how short it ended up being.
My picks are:
Amped (snowboarding)
Crimson Skies (retro bi-plane action)
Soul Caliber 2 (best 3D fighter on xbox1)
DOA3 (second best 3D fighter on xbox1)
Full Spectrum Warrior (military strategy)
MotoGP (racing bike)
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (platform action/adventure)
Stubbs the Zombie (funny action)
Phantom Dust (dragon balling in destructible environs)
Jet Set Radio Future (rollerblading platformer)
Gunvalkyrie (futuristic action/platformer)

I found Stubbs the Zombie to be a rather short but incredibly sweet gaming experience. Absolutely hilarious nonstop fun in which you play an undead traveling salesman leading a one-man assault upon a 1950's era "City of the Future". It's pretty gory as you can imagine, so if that doesn't appeal to you don't bother.
I was extremely happy with it and that was when it first came out and cost $50. You can probably get it for under $20 these days.
Here's a trailer:

If you have any interest in arcade-style beat-em-ups, you must get the Warriors. Great, great game.
Oh yeah, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Get it. Seriously.

Oh yeah, I'd agree that the Morrowind GotY is worth the extra ten spot.
Since you like RPGs, you might also want to check out Fable. I didn't like it that much myself, but you can probably get it for cheap so it might be worth checking out.
The Bard's Tale is a fairly old-school top down hack 'n' slash action-rpg with a great sense of humor. With the main characters in most videogames being either mute cyphers, perfect heroes or (increasingly) sociopathic thugs, it's a rare treat to play as an anti-hero who's in it for himself and heroic mostly by accident. Pity the game apparently didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel.

Gah, another great one I forgot and Black, with an easy mode that actually makes the game playable, is definitely the way to go.
To those of you out there who like your games punishingly hard, good for you, have fun with that. When you start saying that some games should be "just for the hardcore" and not have an easy mode for people who don't have all day to practice, (I've actually seen this, it's stupid.) I have two words for you and the first one starts with "F".

Thanks, GOTY edition it is.
I'm not really worried about games being too short. When you're paying ten or fifteen bucks, as little as eight or ten hours of gameplay is plenty to get value from your money.
I appreciate the recommendations for skateboarding/snowboarding games, but those aren't really my style.
I'll see if I can locate Panzer Dragoon. I do have the Prince of Persia 3D version downloaded from XBox Live, is the one recommended here similar?
Are the XBox versions of Baldur's Gate any good? How about Gauntlet: Dark Legacy?
And Ninja Gaiden: Black is another I'll look for. I like games with an "easy" mode.
Thank you for all of the other suggestions. I've made a list for my next trip to the game store.

Baldur's Gate for the Xbox is an action RPG with, as far as I know, little connection to the PC rpgs. Never played it so I can't say more than that. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is best avoided though.

Even the easy mode is challenging, but not frustratingly so. I like my games just challenging enough. ;)

Thanks. I like action RPGs. Diablo 2 is the only game that even comes close to the Sims 2 in terms of a single game sucking up my leisure time.

I can't believe I missed this thread. It has the info I had been looking for. Thanx for opening it, Gilda.
For instance, I had forgotten about GunValkyrie and Full Spectrum Warrior. I think I'll add those to my wishlists.
BTW, I'd recommend Splinter Cell if you're into stealth games. Also, I think Otogi is a great game. Kinda tough, though.

Hold on. Last time I checked, Morrowind wasn't compatible with the 360. Has this changed?
Also, I agree with the Psychonauts recommendation.

BTW, I'll join Gilda's request. Could anyone give us impressions on the XBox's Baldur's Gate games?

I checked before getting it. It is. It was added in July. I tried it when I got it home and it plays just fine. No widescreen mode, and it loads very slowly, but that's typical of Xbox games.

That's good news. I think I may pick that up myself.

Shenmue 2 and Jet Set Radio Future are the two most essential games for this system.

If Microsoft ever decides to make "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay" compatible with the 360, I suggest you pick it up. Don't let the mediocre movie scare you, Butcher Bay is quality.

Panzer Dragoon
Serious Sam
Indigo Prophecy
Fable
Dreamfall 2
Jedi Academy
Beyond Good And Evil
This is a good place to check out more contenders.

I second, third and fourth this recommendation.
Psychonauts is one of the best games of all time, despite how difficult it gets near the end.

My roomate used to love Fable. I never really liked the RPG's much but I recently downloaded it to give it a shot. It is kinda fun. It is like Zelda only with a little more RPG fused into it.

Is there a list somewhere of X-Box games that are compatible with the 360?
N/M I found one easily when I tried looking.

I do, but it greatly depends on the game. I love Doom, the original, but can't stand Doom 3 because the flashlight/weapon switch thing makes the game far too difficult, even on the easiest difficulty level.
I loved Quake 2, but was never able to complete the first level of Quake 4.
I love Bioshock, but have to play it on easy for it to be playable.

Don't know if it is XBOX 360 compatible but a real fun game to play is Metal Arms. Basically you are a robot fighting other robots. You get to use lots of cool weapons. There is also a good multiplayer component to the game where you can battle other players.
