I like the cinematic feel to the series. So what would a live action movie be like? I think that there would be a cast of characters straight out of "Twin Peaks" and "Northern Exposure" (with the quirky towns people). Maybe a New England-esque person to play Dr. D. Blake. The environment could be straight out of "Walkabout", "Pricilla, Queen of the Desert" or "Baghdad Cafe" in terms of environment. Definitely get some to play a someber, but introspective Thor who knows how to act.
Oh, well...

Hmmm... I could see it.
Since JMS is a TV writer too, it probably wouldn't be that hard to work into a story, though obviously some tweaking would be required.

I could see bits of the first origin combined with the current JMS run. You could show the hammer falling to Earth after Ragnarok. It could be the only one or at some point the cycle could be revealed but Thor would've ended it.The timeframe of the hammer's fall could be medieval or modern. But if it occurred long ago the hammer might turn up in a mound built over where it fell. As in Roy Thomas abandonned 90's retcon Donald Blake could be a real living person possibly of partial or wholely Scandiavian decsent. lnstead of a cave in Norway the hammer would be within an artificial mound Blake stumbles upon or is lead to. Since there are controversial Viking like finds in the midwest the town could be in Minnesota or Oklahoma as JMS has it but with Blake it's recently arrived doctor not only a renter.
Then Blake's grasping the hammer sends him into the void where Thor as 'slept' since the final Ragnarok. The big question then is why Blake would try to convince Thor to come to Earth and why Thor would agree. Presumably, the demons would show up trying to prevent it perhaps sent by Loki or some other foe that appeared or 'awoke' before Thor did.An Asgardian derived threat to Earth and Thor's mother being Jord/Gia might be reason enough if Blake and or Thor had figured out the nature of the danger.
One could then have the choice of following JMS by using Blake as Thor's mortal alter ego and host on the Earthplane or barrow from the old Hulk TV movie by keeping them seperate but allowing Blake to summon Thor at need. The difference would be that Blake was less nerdy and annoying whie Thor was more lordly and intelligent [instead of aViking fratboy/biker type].A shy Blake might be drawn ot by contact with Thor while Thor gradually grows less distant and severe via contact with Blake and or the townsfolk.
Thor would try to restore Asgard in a way similar to JMS run or the lost gods saga or eternals.Meanwhile, his foe, Loki or whomever causes increasing trouble not content to let Thor succeed.Possibly at some level Odin might've been behind Blake awakenning Thor to restore Asgard but Thor wold be it's ruler.Odin either has moved beyond direct rule or left some sort of alarm spell to set things rolling should the chosen villain pop up again. Thus it would be possible to use Odin without depicting Thor as the subordinate eir to a throne which would never be his.Since it appears Loki and the Destroyer are among the returnees they could be in such a movie version too. But the low key quirkiness of the town combined with the lack of a big city to trash in the climax might make it not enough of a spectacle for a theatrical film. lt would be more of a TV type progect of at least minseries length. Balancing the epic quality with bits of humour wouldn't be easy to pull off but it might be possible.

The confrontation with Iron Man would obviously have to be removed but I guess it could work if you tweak the script to flow faster.

Oh, yeah. I could definitely see this working. Just make it more of an origin story about Dr. Donald Blake finding Thor's hammer, setting up camp in the midwest, and then seeking out the rest of the Asgardians. Somewhere along the way Loki shows up and there's an epic battle. The end.
Then, since Hulk and Iron Man will have already come out before Thor, Marvel could introduce Captain America in a live-action Ultimates movie. It'd have to have a huge budget, but picture Sam Jackson as Fury, Robert Downy, Jr. as Stark, Ed Norton as Banner, and whomever they cast as Cap and Thor taking down shape-changing Nazi aliens! That would be absolutely incredible IMO. Throw in brief cameos by Spider-man, the X-men and the FF (just quick scenes of them fighting Chitauri/Skrulls in NYC while the Ultimates battle them in Washington, DC) and this would be the comic book movie to end all comic book movies!

Yeah but they'd have to do a Civil War movie first to justify that scene in the first place.

JMS writes movies too. He wrote the next movie of this guy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000142/), and is also working on a Silver Surfer screenplay.

Not necessarily, Tony has done more then cloning a god to piss Thor off.

In movie continuity though?
I mean don't get me wrong a guest appearance is cool with me but I don't think that whole fight would translate well onscreen unless registration and the CW stuff was established in movie continuity. Plus if they fanagle a guest apearance it would probably be better done in a sequel when both films are established.

your telling me a fight between a super powered God and guy in mech suit would not translate between well on theater
To hell with the reasons I just want to see Thor Play cricket hit Tony's head again
