I heard about this PC game on X-play and they said it set new standards for graphics and was an awesome game.

But they also mentioned that almost everyone that owns a personal computer would need a serious upgrade just to meet the minimum requirements to play it.

Something like $2000 was mentioned as the price tag for the upgrades.

Anyone else hear of this game and is this needed upgrade true?

X-Play gave the game a 2 out of 5 and said the graphics were basically the only good thing about the game.

Well s*** at least I got the graphics part right. I must have mixed the review up with another game in the same show.

That's odd. Buying a new computer, video card and an additional 2gigs of RAM only cost me $700. And I run Crysis just fine with most settings on very high. If you're just upgrading an existing computer, it should only cost half that.

X-Play is either exaggerating or retarded. Whichever

Actually they are quite right.
Crysis can't be run on the highest settings, this includes 1080p and AA settings for any system currently out, this includes triple SLI built computers. Even with my computer and my 8800 I still only get 30.7 FPS with everything at it's highest. Do note that 30 FPS is passable, but definetely not it's best, which is currently unachiveable.

I played the game on my friends computer and was not really impressed with it.....at least gameplay wise. In terms of graphics, that game is really beautiful. The water effects, the scenery, and how the NPC's look are some of the best I have seen. The gameplay really was not anything special, and I expected to see much better from a game like this. Also, they need to work on some of the AI, and physic for the sequal, because they were below par for a game like this.

I think the physics can be adjusted, or from what I've read.
Crysis crates in mass physics. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaHS-y_mapQ)

Plus, with the sandbox editor, Im sure within due time there will be much more interesting mods being released for the game that would be even more fun then Crysis it self. As of right now I've been monitoring a work in progress mod of Jurasic Park for Crysis and they are doing a wonderful job.

No, they're not right. The game not being able to be maxed out at a ridiculous resolution doesn't mean you need anywhere near $2000 to meet the minimum requirements.

Too much engine, not enough game. Great from a technical standpoint, but the demo simply bored me, as it's just a fairly average shooter with great graphics.

My computer cost $600 and runs crysis with no problem. All that garbage about not being able to play it without a $2000 rig is bogus. The game is actually very good.

Minimum, no, but maxed out is unobtainable for the time being.
Also, X-Play's review on Crysis stated nothing about hardware, upgrades or requirements. The only bit they did that had to do with computer parts and featured the word 'Crysis' was when Morgan Webb was building the 'Ultimate Gaming Rig', which he stated costed 3000 dollars to build and at the end stated "Im gonna go play Crysis". That's it.

I'm actually on mid level settings and there are no framerate drops or anything like that.

It's interesting though that after all the hype, the game is doing miserably. Perhaps because everyone is afraid they won't be able to run it.

Actually, that is one of the reasons.
I read a large article about how most games are created on multiple ports, I.E. Call of Duty 4, The Orange Box, ect. ect. and is why those games make their company more money because of the multiple platforms to purchase the game on. Crysis is solely a computer game and thats where a lot of people think they went wrong.

1. Sales numbers for PC games are always inaccurate. Yes it is underperforming significantly, but the 85,000 that's reported is not accurate of actual sales of the game. And the problem lies more in EA's non marketing campaign for the game. It did not get any of the mainstream press it needed to succeed. All they did was preach to the choir. The hardcore PC audience knew about it but the only thing the fringe market knew about it was it was a resource hog and that everyone in the media blew it's requirements out of the water.

CoD4 and HL2 did absolutely amazing on PC and more people are playing them on PC than on consoles. Check the server numbers and so forth.

Hmm? I thought the PC version of CoD4 did the least amount of sales?

The game didn't get hyped up all that much. Like Xevious said, it got no mainstream press and yeah, half the people who did know about the game were probably scared to touch it. I know I wouldn't have messed with it if I hadn't just bought a new PC. CoD, Halo and Assassin's Creed got hype. PC games tend to get overlooked anyway. Even with it's seemingly low sales, Crysis was the 2nd best selling PC game of November
