Has anyone seen the new promo pic for Captain America 34?

http://www.buzzfocus.com/2007/12/21/captain-america-comes-back-in-january-well-almost/

They're basically saying the new Captain America will be either Iron Man, U.S. Agent, the Winter Soldier (Bucky), Red Skull, Hawkeye, or Union Jack Joseph Chapman.

Why the heck would they even mention Union Jack? It's like they were reaching to fill out space for the promo.

I'm guessing it will be either Bucky or Hawkeye.

Possible spoilers:

This is second-hand info. In the comments section over at the Blog@Newsarama where they discussed this image a couple of posters wrote that they have seen the first look comic and it reveals that the new Captain America is (spoiler ahead)..... Bucky.

Again, I don't know if this is true or not.

You know, out of all of them, I would be more excited to see the Skull become Cap.

I mean it's the perfect symbolism for what's gone on in the MU during and since Civil War. Bad Guys or at least people acting like bad guys getting all sorts of power and nuzzlings while the heros eat dirt or sleep in it.

Iron Man?

Maybe there's more to that Alex Ross new car shine than we thought. Tony develops a guilt complex and Extremis takes a cue from the Spidey symbiote and takes him out at night to fight crime as the new Cap...

Then during the day Tony could be demanding that SHIELD find and arrest the new and unregistered Cap!

People are talking about it. Mission accomplished.

It'll probably be temporary anyway, so as long as it's a good story, I don't care which one it is.

Well, the Red Skull would certainly be a fun choice.

Odds are, I'm not going to like the New Cap regardless of who he is... so I might as well root for a guy I'm not suppossed to like in the suit.

I agree. The Skull would be such a foil in the MU, but how would he carry it off. Skull would have to use the time machine. Go back to before he was shot, and there, BINGO, we have a perfect replica of Cap. He washes up on shore, with no memory, and driven to Tony Stark, who gives him his impromitu, and declares the return on the one, true, Captain America. Perfect.

Can't believe they didn't even consider putting Baron Zemo in the picture! :p

US Agent as Captain America again would have been great! Then he could go on and be violent, deadly, and who gives an Ef about you like back in the 1st Capt America series when he replaced Steve Rogers.

Out of all those who may be Captain America... they all stink.

Bringing back Bucky was weak. People start frothing at the mouth when someone else hopes Steve Rogers isn't dead, but Bucky comes back after how many decades? Kill off Bucky again, and come up with a C.A. Fast.

The Skull for C.A.?! Okay, I can see it... not! You couldn't get any more retarded than that. Next...

Union Jack is from a whole 'nother country, people... get with the program!

'Captain Iron Man' just don't sound right. Maybe he'll paint his armor red, white and blue and put a big 'A' on his shiny metal head, too. Just kidding, another @#$%poor idea...

USAgent tried and failed to be Cap... even if he wanted to do it again, no one in the super-community would take him seriously, and he'd give it up.

Iron Man already offered 'C.A.' to Clint Barton, and he turned it down after he realized it wasn't for him to take up the mantle of The Sentinel of Liberty.

I think all these characters are just supporting cast members, not candidates for C.A.... so who is the new Captain America? No idea. So long as it isn't something completely out of left field, I might start reading C.A. again.

Edit: Ross' artwork is really nice, but three things gotta go: 1, the 'A'... always thought it was pretty corny, and everyone knows he's Captain America; 2, the 'wings'... just as corny; 3, the gun... C.A. doesn't use guns. Proficient, yes, uses them if need be, yes, part of his gig? No. Lose the gun. (A survival knife could come in handy, though.) I know some people think the black doesn't really fit into the costume coloring, but I think its alright... so long as the red/white/blue is prominent.

Yeah, he's like that.

I'm not reading Cap at the moment but Bucky seems the perfect choice. He is different to Steve but not so far removed from the ethoes that it is a glaringly bad decision.

Not quite, but close. And technically, the promo came out before 33. Although either way, everyone reading the book knew who it was going to be the second they announced there was going to be a new Cap. I think the promo image is more for people not reading the book, to get them suckered in, rather than people already reading. Stir up a little non-existent controversy.

If Marvel was smart, they would make the "Bucky is Cap" thing at the end of CAP #33 a HUUUGE red herring, then have him end up being someone else completely in issue 34. But we all know that's not going to happen.

Then again, this is CAPTAIN AMERICA, currently Marvel's best book, so maybe, just maybe...

Yes make the British guy Captain America, who is suppose to represent America. It makes perfect sense.

They have an American representing Canada, so a British Captain America might not be out of the question.

I'm just getting back in the game.;)

As for 'explaining my post', I voiced why all those characters shouldn't be Cap, and that they were probably just supporting characters and not possible successors.

Of course, you could be a little less vague about my post and tell us (me) why my not reading the book explains my post.

I've read plenty of C.A. in my younger days, and could pick it up again. But I'm not going to pick up a book that I think is 'way out in left field'.

*Hey, Castiglione, nice to see you... and Bucky would be a great idea for Cap. NOT! Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. Give him a permanent dirtnap, get us a real Cap. And what the heck is 'ethoes'? (<--real word?) Oh, my bad, 'ethos'. What do you think Winter Soldiers 'ethos' is nowadays? I don't think its quite the same as it used to be back in his 'Bucky' days... his 'character' has changed, if you catch my meaning.

That promo had me thinking for a minute. But in the end I figured Bucky was the only logical choice for the mantle of Captain America. And here's why:

Iron Man has so much crap on his plate he simply does not have the time to be Captain America.

Hawkeye had already declined the position during the Fallen Son Arc. Plus he's still Ronin, it wouldn't make sense as he can't be in two places at once.

U.S. Agent could still be serving in Omega Flight, but he spent alot of time trying to stand out as an individual and not simply as another knock off Captain America. Not to mention he was always saying he was better than him.

Making the Red Skull Captain America seems like too much of a cruel ironic joke, though the Skull was created from a clone of Cap's body, he's still within Lukin and doesn't seem like he needs to go anywhere anytime soon as he has practically already taken over Lukin's mind, happy with the power and influence that Lukin can provide.

As for Union Jack, I'm not sure it would be looked too kindly upon for a hero of the U.K., to take up the mantle of Captain America. It would kind of be like having the Queen of England become the new President of the U.S., it simply wouldn't sit well. I saw the post earlier about how America had heroes representing Canada, however most of them were on temporary loan until Canda could get back on its feet after the fallout of the Civil War. I also believe many Canadians weren't very happy about this either as only one member of the team was truly Canadian.

Bucky not only has the right background, but he has everything else he would need to be Captain America, including the original Shield, Steve Roger's mask, and Tony Stark's approval. It's only right he become the new cap. That's my two cents anyway.
