The local music scene here has had some amazing bands over the years, and there has been a certain amount of shout-outs and name-dropping over the years. For example:
The rapper Sluggo from Atmosphere named a song after local (well, Minneapolis *and* Boston) indie band Lifter Puller, and has also name-checked them in his song Reflections, "You kiss like you already came, and that's a Lifter Puller line for those without any game." Another local indie band called Sunnysmack had a playful lyric in the song Now Everybody Knows, "I'm not the Lifter Puller guy, my voice is way too high."
There have been more high-profile examples of these kinds of shout-outs. Remember that little feud between Neil Young and Lynard Skynard? Tori Amos mentioned Nine Inch Nails indirectly ("my own pretty hate machine") in her song "Caught A Light Sneeze." Deep Purple gave a shout-out to Frank Zappa and the Mothers on "Smoke on the Water." And dada mentioned Green Day in the song "Bob the Drummer."
