Make that, good FREE music-downloading programs?

I currently use limewire, but I can usually only find one or two, if any, songs by the artists I'm trying to check out.

I'm one of those anal-retentive bastards that has to OWN the actual CD, but I do like to try and preview stuff before I buy it (I used to blind buy all the time, but I'm on a bit more of a budget these days), so I like to download some stuff and see if I'm going to want to own the CD. If I do, then I buy it.

But I want a better program, if there is one.

Free is the hard part. Aside from illegal torrents, I don't think there are any. The new Napster allows you to listen to all the songs you want for $10-a-month, but you can't download them unless you go with the $15-a-month version. And even then if you want to burn them to CD, you have to buy the tracks for a buck each.

But we are allowed to discuss legal downloading programs.

Such as eMusic, which I currently use. Lots of indie music on there. Some of it is even good.

Check google blog search.

I haven't used a downloading program in years.

Er, I'm pretty surew we're not allowed to discuss illegal downloads on this forum...Seriously? That seems a little uptight for CBR...seeing as how torrent programs aren't illegal and aren't always used for illegal downloading.

Soulseek is allegedly really damn good for finding anything you might be after, a small download, not much of a drain on resources, and no spyware/adware...

So i've heard anyway...

Yeah, I can recommend Soulseek. I use it regularly and can confirm that it's a small, non-resource draining download and there's no spyware/adware.

I use it in exactly the same way you do ZombieHavoc, for checking stuff out before I buy. Oh, and I get quite a few bootlegs from there too...you know, like concerts by my favourite bands that aren't comercially available.
