--I posted this on my blog but thought I'd repost it here as well.
With the new year approaching and Realms & Reality finishing up soon, I'd thought I'd share some of my plans for 2008.
In 2008, I will be putting all my old work up on the site for free. First will be the stereos: battle of the bands, then the stereos: in the garage and then entanglement. I will keep the schedule of 3 pages a week (M,W,F).
Once I start putting the books online, they will also be available as print-on-demand books. That means stereos: battle of the bands will be back in print. This time with a color cover.
I'm doing this because I want my work available to as many people as possible. With the traditional print system, I'm limited to how many copies I can print and how many I can sell at cons, my site, or at various stores that carry my work. While I enjoy the print format and will continue to make print books, I think the web/pod method better suits my current goals.
This leads to another plan for 2008. My still mulling over what my 2008 comic project should be. I have a couple ideas but nothing is set in stone yet. One of the reasons for this is because, I'm looking to improve my work.
When I started making comics, I knew I was never going to be the best writer in the world. I'm more of a comic artist who writes since I want to tell stories with comics. Now I think I've improved my writing skills over the years, but I don't think I'll ever be confident enough in my skills as a writer as I am as an artist.
Basically I'm looking for a project where I can team with a writer so I can focus on my artistic/storytelling skills. I've only collaborated with a few writers. I'm pretty free minded when it comes to projects. But I do like to have some say in terms of how the project is told and handled.
So if you are a comics writer and think we might be able to work together, feel free to contact me. Please keep in mind my typical comics style when considering contacting me about a project. I tend to try to stay around PG-13 or less in terms of subject matter. I also enjoy creating long-form stand alone stories.
As for payment and money issues, I'm pretty open about that. I'm not looking to make it rich off comics. With my own books, I'm fine if I make money or not. I'm a fan of self-publishing via the web and print. But If a publisher were to want to publish the project, I'd be open to the right kind of deal.
Please note that I am currently working on an story idea with my wife as writer. But that may take a little while, and I want to see if there are any other writers willing to work with me.
