You didn't think you'd live to see E3, 2001?

Doesn't take much to make a trailer.

meh, until I'm holding the box in my hands, no, playing the game, I won't actually believe it.

Part of me wants Duke Nukem to remain vaporware indefinitely, if only because deep down I think the joke itself is more fun than the game will be :)

Just pray that that the developers don't get distracted by another new system, or engine trick, or whatever and decide to rebuild their whole engine to take advantage of it.

Again.

Again!!

Except it isn't. There was a closed door demo at E3 2 or 3 years ago. There was a magazine article somewhere in that same general time frame. And within the last year, there was another screen shot that was leaked that was just as useless as the one here, that went with a "for hire" ad 3D Realms put out.

Gaming is very much "What have you done for me lately?" industry. As cool as the original Nukem was, I have no reason to really expect this one to be good. It's like bringing Joe Montana back to the 49ers.

Exactly. They usually make it seem like there's been some progress every 2 years or so.

I think people are remembering Duke Nukem 3D as being a lot better than it actually was.

No, it was that good, especially for the time. There's a slightly updated version you can download, and the game really does hold up. Granted, it's dated, but in the same way that, oh, let's say Doom II is.

That said, here's the trailer. http://www.primotechnology.com/video/1207/DNF_Teaser_720p_HD.mov

What a surprise, no real game footage. Well, some of it might be, but who could tell?

The trailer got me psyched up a little bit. I LOVE Duke Nukem's theme, it's a friggen anthem. It always gets redone and updated but every version is awesome(except the Zero Hour Version, I didn't like that one). My favorites are the versions in LOTB and Manhatten Project. The Megadeth one is pretty badass but Dave takes a little too much liberties.

or bad reviews.

that seems to happen a lot of the highly anticipated games these days......

If the game is released, I'm sure it'll get a fair rating. It's been reworked so many times that previous expectations are null and void.

The greatest Duke Nukem contribution to society was the Ventrilo Harrassment seen on Youtube.

"I've got balls of steel."

"It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of gum."

"Eat s*** and die."

"Blow it out your ass."

And the psychotic retorts by the person being harassed were classic.

Oh it will.
It's been delayed so long, that everyone expects it will either be a pile of crap, or not come out.
So as long as the game isn't the worst thing ever, it will be considered a success and get positive reviews.

Duke 3d was the best. It truly was. Quake2 LMCTF was close and perhaps a bit more fun with a large group of people, but there is nothing I enjoyed more than Duke with three or four of my friends.

I was watching this Law and Order SVU Episode with David Keith guest starring and I think he could have been a PERFECT Duke Nukem if there was a Duke Nukem movie.

He was a big and burly guy, pissed off look in his face, blonde hair, deep gruff voice, his cop character had an aggressive nature. If you put some sun glasses on him and gave him a crew cut, you'd have Duke.

That was back in 01 though. He's too old now, probably was too old then.

I'd say that it's possible that Duke Nukem Forever has gone through all the known phases of hype and anti-hype, to exist in a unique state of its own in which anything could happen. The rules are still being written.

If this "teaser" had ended with Duke saying, "It's done," that would be one thing.

Instead they give us lame footage of Duke using a dumbbell interspersed with brief flashes of in-game footage that tell us nothing, wrapped up with a lame one-liner.

*yawn*

Stay tuned. For what, another ten years?

The following things have been accomplished since Duke Nukem Forever was announced on April 25th, 1997...

You also forgot that the Tomb Raider series -which was quite popular around the time of Duke Nukem- had a major fall from grace over time and resulted in Eidos Interactive seizing the series from Core (the original creators) and giving it to Crystal Dynamics, resulting in quite possibly the best example of a long-time series phoenix-like resurrection yet.

And the remake of the first 'Tomb Raider' game -which the original was out a year before DNF's annoucement- wasn't too shabby either.

Also, don't forget about the entire Metroid Prime trilogy being released too.

meh, until I'm holding the box in my hands, no, playing the game, I won't actually believe it.

That's pretty much how I think about it. They'll probably come to the conclusion at the last second that the Crysis engine would suit them better, then rebuild everything...again. Then somewhere along the way they'll make some more management mistakes. Lose a few key employees. Some of the lead programmers will get arrested for some dasterdly sh*t they pulled in Mexico while on vacation. There'll be an extradition hearing and it may even make national news. The world of video-game production is a scandolous one.
