I finally picked up Death of Captain Marvel and have to say it's the best comic I've ever read. Definitely a great story and brings up debate if they should have brought him back or not.

If anyone can confirm for me, I think I may have a missing page though. The last page of the book, in my copy, has Mentor covering Marvel with a sheet and saying "He's Gone" That's it, end of book. I have a funny feeling there was more to it and perhaps another page or inside back cover got ripped out? Can anyone open up their copy to the back and let me know?? I'd appreciate it.

Glad you liked the story....its one of my favorites as well....the best death evah!........and even though I was sure that was the last page I checked it out for you anyway......that is indeed the last page.

So....what do you think of his "return"?

Mine ends there, then an ad for ritz bitz and Universal studios islands of adventure.

If you liked CM, you might want to check out Starlin's Dreadstar. They only reprinted the first story arc or two but it's quality stuff.

Thanks for confirming that for me! I was a bit troubled I got ripped off or something from the ebay seller.

To be honest, I only glanced at the new book as I wanted to read Death of CM first to get a better glimpse of who he was. Never really got into him but wish I did and may go out and get some old back issues. If it's done right, I don't see a problem with bringing him back. Hell, it's a comic book.....do they really need to keep people dead? I think I might get some more opinions though before making a purchase.

What do you think of it?

I thought the return from Jenkins was poorly done but I'm enjoying the current mini by Reed.....at first I was against him being brought back but like you said....its a comic book....if done right I'm ok with it and so far I think the new title is worthy of it.........and if you are to get back issues get "The life of Captain Marvel" collection....that has all the best stories from Starlin's run......it has the Thanos stuff, Marv being appointed protector of the universe by Eon and the issue where he fights Nitro and gets cancer.....having all the back issues myself....they were hit or miss but all the stories in that trade were really good.....if you get them let us know what you thought....I havent heard anyone say they havent liked them yet.

The new book does not exactly bring Captain Marvel back from the dead. What they've done is plucked Captain Marvel out of time from a point BEFORE he died (but after he contracted cancer). So, somewhere between Captain Marvel 34 and Death of Captain Marvel. At some point, he'll return to his own time and die just like occurred in Death of Captain Marvel.

I bought the first issue and liked it a lot more than I expected to. If they get some good stories out of it, fine.

Jim Starlin's run on Captain Marvel (#25-34, and Death of Captain Marvel GN) was collected a few years back as "The Life and Death of Captain Marvel" TPB. I'd recommend that as a start, it's fairly easy to find on eBay, Amazon, etc. I own and personally treasure CM's entire series, but those are some of the best of the bunch, and what more or less defined the character for most readers. Just my two cents' worth...! :D

As far as the new series goes, I enjoyed the first issue, and am looking forward to the rest of the series. :)

IIRC, In Civil War: The Return, Marv remembers Elysius, so that would put the story some point after CM #59, where Elysius first appeared, but more likely following that story arc, which ran through CM #59-62, and continued into his run in Marvel Spotlight v.2 (which I believe were his last solo stories prior to the Death of Captain Marvel GN). So, what was he doing in the Negative Zone at that point (given that he and Rick were freed from the NZ in CM #50)? Reed says that he will address that later in the mini-series, but I am still a little skeptical, and I really hope they don't pull some hokey BS retcon to make it all fit.

That being said, I am enjoying the mini so far, and if done properly, I could deal with more CM stories in the present. :) I hope he isn't shoved into the background during Secret Invasion (or whatever the hell it's called).

The back cover of the first and second prints, has nearly the entire 1982 marvel u. On the surface of titan, at the grave of mar-vell,including one fellow in the background, that many feel is superman. Odd that it wasnt used.

No, the back cover shot of the MU around the tombstone is there...I was referring to INSIDE the back cover. Just seemed odd the book ended with "Ok he's dead, let's cover him up and be done with the story" But from what I understand that's how it was. It's actually pretty fitting....the story was about him so it ends with him

Just finished with CM Vol 5 (?) #1...I thought it was pretty well done. Liked the tie in with artists making a statement and Capt. M doing so himself to a world that believes him dead. Or knows he's dead, but...you know what I mean.

Very interested in past CM issues now. Any important arcs or issues you people recommend me picking up?

Aside from the Starlin issues, I'd recommend the following:

- Marvel Super-Heroes #12-13/Captain Marvel #1: original story arc, how Marv comes to Earth; great art by Gene Colan
- Captain Marvel #16-18: gets new uniform, thrown into the Negative Zone, bonded to Rick Jones, gets revenge on Yon-Rogg
- Avengers Kree/Skrull War TPB: Marv plays a major role in the events that transpire here
- Captain Marvel #58-62/Marvel Spotlight v.2 #1-4, 8: last stories before DoCM; Marv goes to Titan, meets Elysius, defeats ISAAC and his thralls

Good stuff... :D
