Your song of the moment is awesome, but the one you sent me is even better, Foo Fighters Cold Day in the Sun....One of my favorite songs ever. Thanks again bro. It just popped up randomly on my playlist.Anytime, buddy.
And do you have the new Foo Fighters yet?
Knock knock
Who's there?
Al Gore
Al Gore who?
Exactly... Howyadoin over at CBR solved global warming, who gives a damn about Gore?Y'know, I bet global warming could be solved if enough people smoked enough pot to plug that hole in the ozone layer.

I think I am going to put together an evil Christmas movie marathon. Die Hard, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Black Christmas, Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas... what am I missing?
By evil, you mean bad Christmas movies?
You definitely need Die Hard 2: Die Harder then.

Really, though, it didn't take Sherlock Holmes or anything to figure it out. There's not much that elicits strong reactions like that from me.
And, with one dog in kidney failure, one with diabetes, and one with mange, I'm more sensitive than usual regarding puppy-related things, so it'll be a while before I'm able to watch something like that, so I appreciated the heads-up, Spoily McRuiner.

Oh man, really? I normally love Andre Braugher and thought he did the worst he has ever done. Also: the fucking worst CGI in the history of man, a completely boring overly long waste of celluloid, the dumbest anti-religion agenda I have ever seen. Who the hell says, here strange woman, I want you to physically hold and stroke my child, my supposed dearest possession, who I had very little problem shooting in the face. Oh yeah, not to mention where the hell did the tentacles go, we never saw them again the entire rest of the movie and never learned which creature they came from? as I pulled in to work I saw a CHP parked in the driveway and a small SUV on its side in the deep open ditch across the road. It was heading westbound on a narrow (12 foot) road but ended up in the south-side ditch. Either the driver was really not paying attention or they pulled out of our driveway way too fast. It's stuck clear to the transmission hub (no skid plate that I could see). No driver around, the CHP is waiting for a tow truck but I think they are busy clearing the main roads.

Also, I'm starting to fear all this grassroots Ron Paul support. It's getting out of hand.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/edcunard/RonPaul.jpg
It is a little crazy, especially here in Austin, which is in Ron Paul's home state and the center for many grass roots organizations. There are signs everywhere. My girlfriend's brother is made crazy in love with Ron Paul. I want to send him a link to the Ron Paul thread here. I'd have to tell him to ignore the conversation about the Civil War and any comparisons to Dr. Doom though.

The only points I will agree with you on was the subpar CGI in a few instances, and the stabbing was one of the parts that I thought was over-the-top (that's not in the story). Otherwise, the rest of your points I could counter.
I will not abandon my opinion that it was the best American horror film in at least a decade.
I'll agree with you. The ending was a bit over-the-top and really should've stopped with David Drayton screaming for the monsters in the mist to come get him after he shot everyone in the car. That would've been such a stronger ending to me. Besides that, I really like the movie. It got a nice, visceral reaction from the crowd. People actually cheered in the theater when Ollie shot the crazy religious bitch. I was one of them.

Yes you should. If you're looking for post-apocalyptic, may I suggest Alas Babylon by Pat Frank and Earth Abides by George R. Stewart.
If you can find a copy at a used bookstore, there are a couple of good anthologies, The Last Man on Earth and Armageddons that deal with the subject. "A Pail of Air" is in Armageddons.

The movie should have stopped when the car ran out of gas, noone needed the thought of him shooting his only child especially right before he gets saved.

This was a huge problem for me, no matter how desperate and crazy the situation was, noone would follow the crazy lady. They had already established the locals vs. vacationers rivalry, why not have a local minister or priest in the store and then really create moral and ethical situations by who sides with him and god vs science, etc. Instead they copped out and made it as anti-religious as possible.

You're essentially agreeing with me though because the part you seem to like the least is when the army shows up at the end. The original story ended as they drove under the huge creature.

I don't see that as that difficult to believe. Because of what was happening, they thought it was the end of the world. At that point, I can believe people would freak out during what is, in their minds, the apocalypse. It wasn't anti-religious. It was anti-fanatic.
Besides the very ending and the stabbing, the movie was quite loyal to the original story.

Finally watched Bourne Ultimatum last night.
Pretty darn good, overall. Not sure I understand a lick of continuity from one flick to the next, but I think they're kind of making it up as they go along. Still better in its worst expositiony part than any part of Die Hard IV. I credit the director, Paul Greengrass, for that. He does excellent kinetic action sequences that feel like you're observing the action like a wartime correspondent. The pacing is crisp, the big set pieces (filmed on actual locations, not Vancouver stand-ins) are entertaining, and from the credits it looked like they had about 150 stunt men in 6 different countries. This is what I'm looking for in a popcorn movie. Something that doesn't make my brain hurt.
I've got Charlton Heston's Omega Man, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and Battlestar Galactica: Razor coming in a few days. Speaking of BSG, but is it me, or is the third season completely about allusions to real-life "big issues" like torture, racism, and particularly marriage and family? Besides the Algae planet story, they've barely left the bridge of the Galactica

Honeybaked hams are good. Make sure you give yourself some time to heat it up sufficiently before serving. I also put a few pineapple slices on in the last fifteen to twenty minutes of cooking. Spiral cut is optimal for cutting nice pieces off the bone.

Yeah, I feel like watching all 3 of them in order to see how well they flow, I still think they are the best action movies being made in a long time.
I would tend to agree. Damon doesn't need to stretch much acting-wise like he did in The Departed, but laconic, superhuman characters have always been a staple in action flicks. Doug Liman started a nice little franchise with Ludlum's books. Joan Allen is a good recurring character, and Julia Stiles is weirdly hot. Her face is strange-looking and has weird expressions, but at least she doesn't talk much. And again, the direction was exceptional.
A couple of my friends watched Omega Man recently before we all saw I Am Legend, they liked Omega better.

Yup. I thought there was some narrative closure after the second movie, but apparently it just opened up more. It's a pretty convenient plot device to have, where your protagonist shakes off just enough amnesia to remember he needs to be absolutely driven to get revenge.
I can't buy that Julia Stiles is old enough (or wunderkind enough) to be Bourne's handler for 8 years. Did she start when she was 18 or something?
8 years? I didn't catch that. She didn't look much older than 22 or 23 in Ultimatum, a college kid basically. Missed that plot point altogether. I just remembered she and Joan Allen tried to track him down in the second movie.
There were a few other minor things that bothered me. But I don't expect perfection so I loved the movies.
Yeah. I'm willing to let a lot slide in a popcorn flick if the action sequences keep my interest and don't insult my intelligence in terms of ridiculousness and inanity. So far, the Bourne flicks have kept a really good balance of "believable" tension, suspense and action.

Bear in mind, it's zero-budget, slow-paced, and arguably not really all that well made, but it's one of Price's best performances. As I'm half-convinced that Vincent Price was the greatest person to ever live, that's enough for me.
He's a hell of a good performer. I can close my eyes and see scenes from "The Pit and the Pendulum" and "Masque of the Red Death" -- Poe stories I love -- being masterfully and crazily acted out by Price. He really is an iconic figure with amazing screen presence.
They absolutely do not drink and have no Cable TV, the closest anything is a good 20 to 30 minutes away by car, I will never get used to any of that.

Wait, crazy lady whips up a fury and all of her followers resort to their basest instincts and are willing to kill people for their cause and you don;t see it as an overt slam against religion?
I can see how it can be taken like that, but it's just not how I see it. It came off more as a slam against fanaticism and people's ability to give up control to a greater power without questioning it. Also, it was a twist on the "there are no atheists in foxholes" saying.
Its supposed to be a 5 hour drive, possibly 6. I can do that in my sleep, I am a road trip pro.
We have an 11 to 12 hour drive ahead of us. Kristina's family lives in North Mississippi, so we'll stay at her grandmother's house in Peppertown. However, we'll visit her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Mantachie. Yes, Mantachie. Say it out loud. Mantachie. I love the name of that town. It sounds dirty.

The closure at the end of the second was Joan Allen giving him some information on his past. They actually worked that into the third with the false birthdate.
Not sure I follow your remembering to be absolutely driven point. He was driven because he was ticked about Marie's death and without her around, he didn't have anything better to do than to get that revenge.

They said that she was there from the start (or maybe Bourne did) and that they ran his life for 8 years. He was asking her about his first job - the one that was off the books.
I'd like to see the deluxe DVD because they have a bit explaining her role better and I'd like to know how well they do it.

Consider the source (King). He wrote the story as an "end of the world" pastiche.
What's the most famous "end of the world" story? How could there *not* be someone in the story who doesn't reference Revelations? To King, that was probably an illogical thought, in and of itself. And thus, it became a much more natural pivot for conflict, or if not more natural, more interesting to King.

Downtown has underground wires but because the whole place is a giant redwood forest, the power goes out all the time. I'm expecting it to do so today, we have winds and fairly heavy rain. That usually means an outage.

I was just emailed that article. No way anybody'd let a cube dweller do even a tenth of that.
It's enough that I have a Dunder Mifflin calendar.

Sorry to poke this with a stick, but....
I do not feel that THE MIST is anti-religious. It is anti-fanaticism.
A character (can't remember who...the biker maybe?) explicitly states to Mrs. Carmody, "Oh, I believe in God, I just don't think he's the bloodthirsty sonofabitch that you think he is."
You're not allowed to participate until you admit you are wrong.

Speaking of the koop man.....have you heard from him lately? I haven't talked to him in at least eight months now. Hope he's doing okay.
I saw him just a few weeks ago. All is well. I sold him some overstock, and he hung out for a bit.
I keep in regular touch with him.
