It's definitely creepy and probably unhealthy but not that much more unhealthy than the childhoods of the majority of American children.

Its unhealthy at the other end of the spectrum.

Its pretty easy, you get bitten by one or 2 mice you have no problems. I personally feed ALL my snakes thawed frozen mice.

This probably sounds morbid, but I'm genuinely interested. How do you thaw them, pup? In the microwave?

This is definitely the kid. I'm not sure how it's unhealthy though. That kid's got better tendons, muscles.... everything than most of us do.

Not in the least because the type of lifting he's doing is stressful on his still developing spine, plus it's likely that his tendons aren't better, it's too much stress on a still growing body. I have no idea what that kind of regimen could do in regards to his internal organs, but it's definitely not good for his spine or tendons. It's probably not seriously threatening, but it's not ideal.

Then of course, there's the psychological factor of being pushed so hard, so young.

Which of course isn't unique to this kid, but still...

Flipping through the channels and seeing World's Strongest Man leaves me with a question, How much HGH are these guys pumped with, some of them barely look human.

Tendons and the like are also the parts that tend to fuck up a lot with heavy steroid use, I believe. The user is pushing weights that the muscles can handle, due to the steroids, but the tendons can't.

Yup. You hit the nail on the head, Spike. The most common misconception about steroids is that taking them makes you bigger. (That is the case with HGH, though). Taking steroids just makes your workouts more productive over time because your muscles' refraction time decreases, i.e., you get to work out harder, longer and with heavier weights because of the increased level of testosterone. The steroids' primary effect is to make you a workout demon, not to increase muscle mass. HGH does increase body mass though. That's what I thought Bonds took when you look at his before/after pics.

This probably sounds morbid, but I'm genuinely interested. How do you thaw them, pup? In the microwave?

I personally first thaw them in the fridge over night, It takes Rats and Rabbits a while to thaw. *yes, I feed my big snake 10 pound rabbits."
Then I place them in HOT water from the tap. Not enough to cook them but to warm them up all the way through. As long as they are warm the snakes will eat them.

Some times it can be a bit morbid feeding them. I would have some live baby mice that I would have to feed some of my young snakes. They would get to the point of eating them while the small pink fleshy things squirmed. That was mainly my corn snakes that would get to lazy to even kill their prey.

Now they do sell gadgets that can heat up the rodent in your microwave. But most people in the industry just laugh at as a joke. I mean what happens when you place a hot dog in the microwave?

Tendon ruptures are more common from the use of corticosteroids as opposed to anabolic steroids

I remember that reality show he was on and his parents wouldn't let the cameras see what was in the shake they kept feeding him.

I have a feeling they were giving him something other than good training habits. No kid looks like that. Not without 'help'.

Not "develop" as in "train". Develop as in natural maturation. Putting that amount of physical stress on an immature body is not healthy. Good training habits for adults do not equate to good training habits for children.

It's been awhile, but if I remember the list of stuff from Game of Shadows, HGH wasn't on the list. Female Fertility drugs and Bovine Growth Hormone were.

Howdy folks, just got back from Ohio. Her family totally welcomed me with open arms and it was really fun weekend. We got in Friday night and her father had a Halloween decoration sawed off leg waiting in the door for us. It became the running joke the rest of the weekend, I put it in his car door before he left work, he put it in the bed I was to sleep in, I wrapped it in a present that he opened Christmas day.

I have been around a whole family for the holidays in years so it was very nice to do.

They also hooked me up with some loot. Advance knowledge that I really only wanted an XBox360 yielded me a few Best Buy Gift Cards, they also got me the Bourne DVD set that I am totally drooling over and of course this excellent t-shirt:

That may be true, but there are studies coming to different conclusions about that. Of course, I hurt myself throwing simple fastballs, so personally I think a lot of it comes down to individual mechanics. But yeah, conventional wisdom says Curveballs are bad for pre-pubescent kids and I'd probably stick with that thought.

So we're watching We Are Marshall this afternoon, and I noticed an interesting dub. At about the halfway point, Coach Lengyel is talking to coach Dawson about the "Winning is everything" attitude. He says something along the lines of this being something that every coach "worth a darn" believes.

"Darn" had been dubbed over "damn".

What was intended to be a big emotional scene instead ended up making me grin at the thought of a college football coach saying "worth a darn" along with the thought that someone thought "worth a damn" was worthy of being dubbed in an era when that would be fine in an 8:00 sitcom.

Jayne!
The Man they call Jayne!

Oh, He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne.

Our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin'.
He saw the mudders' lament.
And he saw the Magistrate takin'
every dollar and leavin' five cents.
So he said: "You can't do that to my people."
said "You can't crush them under your heel."
So Jayne strapped on his hat
and in 5 seconds flat
stole everythin' Boss Higgins had to steal.

Oh, He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne.

Now here is what separates heroes
from common folk like you and I.
The man they call Jayne
he turned 'round his plane
and let that money hit sky.

He dropped it onto our houses
he dropped it into our yards.
The man they called Jayne
he stole away our pain
and headed out for the stars!

(Here we go!)

He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.

Wouldn't everyone rather critique Michael Lark's artwork anyway?

He takes some chances and makes choices, and it comes out beautiful quite often. Train wrecks are fun, and bashing artists is fun, but at a certain point, once a year is enough.

And lucky me, I always bought comics for the artists and writers even when I had to have other people buy me comics (and yea, I knew all the big words cause I haven't gotten smarter over the years, but I started out pretty brilliant by 6 year old standards). Nothing embarassing in my collection. There's a single issue of "DIE-CUT!" that was part of some 5 for 5 bucks kinda thing or something and I still have no idea if Beast lives to issue 2 or not... I'm kind of assuming he did, but apparently I've got the first appearance of some version of "DarkBeast", which makes it quite the not a collector's item. :(

Comics in the 90s were great. especially when half your collection is backissues from the late 70s and mid 80s.

Ray R. has a question:

This probably sounds morbid, but I'm genuinely interested. How do you thaw them, pup? In the microwave?

I'm more interested in how he gets the snakes to eat them. None of the snakes I've been around would even TOUCH dead mice, unless they were starving. It it because they were all constrictors?

You're well out of that allright. Dang.

You've made me stop regretting not hitting on that cute Russian girl way back when.

It's rather masterful passive-aggressive posturing, actually. I tip my hat at the manipulative qualities honed and perfected over years.

And not all Russians are like that. Just the 100 or so I've met. That little dyevushka you met might not have been bad. Maybe.
