So, crimbo is coming as I'm sure you all know, and I'm thinking of investing in some gaming goodness with any money I get.
My Xbox 360 is fairly new, so the only games I have for it are Gears of War (awesome), PGR 3 (not really my thing), Crackdown (also awesome) and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (awesome once again) and I wanna get some new games as I've essentially drained all four dry.

So, what games for the 360 would you say everybody HAS to own? The best of the best and all that carry on...suggestions?

Thanx in advance.

The Orange Box is about the most bang for your buck that you can find.
Elder Scrolls if you're in to that kind of thing.
Dead Rising (even if the type is almost imposable to read)
Dead or Alive if you're in to fighters.

Burnout Revenge is great for arcade racing.

Mass Effect is a really well made adventure/RPG with good dialog and fun real-time combat. (Sort of Gears-esque)

Earth Defense Force 2017 - Now this one isn't for everyone. The graphics are kind of lousy, it's buggy, and the production values are nil. But I can almost guarantee you that once you're actually playing it, you will not care. It's like a modern take on frenetic arcade shooters like Robotron 2084.

Mass effect, Virtua Fighter 5, Bioshock

Orange Box is great but TF2 lags as heck (at least for me)

It takes me awhile to find a good host.

Portal rocks though, and you haven't all ready played Half Life you got hours and hours of entertainment.

I'm hearing a lot about Mass Effect. You guys all think it would be a good holiday gift for myself?

best sci fi story in years, lots of sidequests, incredible music, some annoyances like clipping/ framerate drops, but overall an excellent game. If you like Bioware RPGs you're up for a fun ride

If you've liked BioWare's past games (KotOR, Jade Empire), then yes, definitely. It's a dialog heavy party-based RPG set in a very entertaining (if a bit cliched) sci-fi universe, with lots of side-missions and uncharted planets to explore. It's not quite able to live up to all of its promise, but it's a safe contender for the top ten of the year, regardless.

I would say Halo 3. Since it is really the only game I own for the 360 I guess it would be a must own.

So if I were to get a new game this coming week, would Mass Effect or The Orange Box be a better choice? I'm not the least bit interested in Team Fortress (don't like multiplayer games) or Portal, but I've never played Half Life 2.

COD4 and Team Fortress 2 are both better multiplayer games, and COD4 has one of the best single player campaigns in recent memory.

You should be. You'll love it.

Half-Life 2 is honestly one of the best games ever made, so if you're interested in playing it, get the Orange Box. Mass Effect has been pretty great so far, but it's a completely different beast.

If I get the game, I'll give it a tryout, but its presence in the package isn't going to influence me in any way.

I tried the demo, but it didn't give me a whole lot of information. Mostly because I got stuck on the mine train puzzle and couldn't make any progress to the shooter part of the game.

I loved Half Life.

I know it's maybe not that popular, but if anyone likes Tennis Games. Virtua Tennis 3 is the best game so far imo. I would also have a look on the release of Lost Odyssee. It seems to be a really good RPG again. Blue Dragon might be also a possibility, but only if anyone likes the anime style in rpgs. Mass Effect is of course the best rpg so far imo.

then I suggest to buy HL2 for PC, cheaper choice. I have HL2 as a Gift option, so if you want it for free just tell me

Whenever possible, I prefer getting the 360 version of games over the Windows versions. It's just more fun sitting on the couch and playing on the big screen.

It appears the price comes out about the same anyway, once you add Half Life 2 ($20), Episode 1 ($10) and Episode 2 ($30).

If you've never played it, get the Orange Box. HL2 is seriously one of the best games ever made, period. Add to that both companion episodes (1 is kinda clunky, but 2 is great) and Portal, and you can't beat it for the price. As great as Mass Effect is, you should definitely get HL2 before it.

Especially if you liked the first Half Life.

Orange Box for the PC is cheaper than that. Even if you have no interest in TF2 or Portal, it still makes sense to get the Orange Box.

Thanks. I guess it'll be Orange Box for now, and wait a bit until there are some used copies of Mass Effect available.

Just be sure to give Portal a try. It's only about three hours long, but I guarantee you it'll be some of the best time you've ever spent playing a video game.

And one of, if not the, best end song ever.

The credit song really moved my heart.:p :p

Anyways, for shooters, get Rainbow Six: Vegas (Ranking system is slow but is a really great tactic FPS. To give you a headsup, only go on Player Matches. Rank Matches will kick you out after a match. While player matches let's you play with whoever you want, and can play with the same people and same map over and over) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Really great on multiplayer with all the perks and stuff. And the ranking system is faster than Rainbow thanks to the challenges) Halo 3 (is pretty fun) and Saints Row if you're into gang games. Third person shooters. It's fun if you're doing free for all matches. The main main problem (especially if you're doing Protect the Pimp) is that there are alot of cheaters. I wouldn't really recommend getting this one. But you can rent and check it out if you want.

How is Mass Effect? It looks freakin sweat. I just wonder how much time is spent wondering around? I don't ussually like RPGs because of the high amount of wondering.

Mass Effect is, without a doubt, the best RPG out there right now. The best thing is that it gives the player the option to play any way they want to. If you don't want to wander around the universe doing side quests, you don't have to. But if you want to completely ignore the main storyline and just explore the galaxy map, you're free to do that to. However, the constant load times and graphical glitches are pretty lame.

Gears of War is very tough, but well worth checking out. It's like Hide & Seek but with Machine Guns & Chainsaws.

There's a reason Halo 3 made as much money as it did, it's a heckuva lot of fun.

The Orange Box has so much stuff to do and play it is an absolute MUST BUY if you like first person shooters. Portal is one of the best games in a decade.

Burnout Revenge is awesome, but you might as well wait until the newest Burnout comes out in a couple months.

My list:

Mass Effect: Cool Science Fiction RPG
Bioshock: Most fun I have had playing a first person shooter in years. Also the graphics, art direction, sound design and writing/story are all some of the best this year in any game for any platform.
Crackdown: Super-fun *sandbox* game.
Guitar Hero II or III: Rock out to classics with your fake guitar. Guitar Hero III is the newest one and it has awesome songs, but I think I like number II a bit better. Either is a lot of fun.

There are other games that I have had a lot of fun with but I wouldn't put them on a must own list for anyone. For instance I love Dynasty Warriors games, but they are repetitive and I know that people don't like them. Also, I love Elder Scrolls: Oblivion but I find Mass Effect to be even more fun and accessible. Still, Oblivion will eat away your time. I have spent over 50 days playing and over 100 hours, so there is a lot to do...

Yeah it is. :)

It's how I got into playing Guitar Hero. I had never tried the PS2 version, and then the 360 got Guitar Hero II so I gave it a try. It's great.

I also like it a bit more than III because it doesn't have the guitar battles, which I think was an unnecessary and pretty lame edition, imho.

So, I know for sure I'm getting Guitar Hero III for Christmas, so would you guys recomend getting GHII when it's cheaper too?

Also, will the GHIII guitar work with GHII?

It should, yeah. And I'll say that's the one thing that they did better in GHIII than II. The III guitar is slightly more comfortable to use than II's controller.

Is skate. worth checking out? I like skating/snowboarding games, but I despise the Tony Hawk franchise.
