All together as a total package this issue was so-so. Come on Marvel you need to try harder if you all want this title to keep going.

Vanguard -Stacy goes to the apartment of the man she arrested previously that was trying to get superpowers and she is shot at by a fellow cop. She falls out the window, but I thought it was a nice use of having Ms. Marvel save her. The art here continues to be good. At the end of this chapter it is revealed that Stacy Dolan's gun and bullets were used in the shooting of the first guy. So far I still think it is a nice mystery. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't as much dialogue in this part. I just hope this ends up satisfactory.

Hell Cat- Okay this ending I thought was pretty bad, but when was the last time HellCat was used well in a story. Anyway turns out that Isaac, The Gargoyle, did some type of magic that caused all these different incarnations of Patsy to show up. This issue was all over the place and just messy and confusing. It was supposed to be tongue and cheek I guess, but I really didn't get this.

Outlaw Kid- This art was nice and it was cool to see Marvel attempt throwing in some of their Western characters in this. Best story of this issue. I'm not that familiar with the character, but I think it is pretty good. It does a nice take on the secret identity thing. Seems the character has split personalities where his normal id actually is hunting for his Outlaw personality for revenge. I think there are a lot of potential stories that can be done with this.

Weapon Omega- Blaah this story this issue went bad again. Weapon Omega appears to be able to drain energy from other mutants and I guess it kills them in the process. There is a whole boring conversation between Tony and one of the heads looking over Weapon Omega. This character is so boring and seems to be going nowhere in this story. He just seems to be there.

i would so like to put a hit out on Weapon Omega. he's got to be one of the most boring new creations of this decade. and what makes it worse is that he sprung out of Decimation (a story i kind of hated). oh well, nice review but i think i'll pass on this one.

The Outlaw Kid story was probably the best. The Hellcat wrap-up was mildly cute (and very, very well drawn), but nothing to write home about. The Vanguard storyline is kind of interesting, but . . . for a chapter with a shoot-out and a superhero rescue, it seemed strangely low key.

As for the Weapon Omega story, the only worthwhile aspect of it is USAgent. The title character is dull, the bureaucratic wrangling is dull, the "mystery" is dull . . . well, you get the picture. USAgent's a hoot, though.

Vanguard was a slow chapter. Hellcat was fun. Outlaw kid was decent and I liked the painted style of the art. Weapon Omega was just boring. Question: Why am I paying a dollar more per issue of this comic? Is it the fact that the cover is a bit thicker than standard? I didn't count the pages, but it all read rather quickly.

I am confused, how can weapon omega be of much use if there are barely any mutants around anymore for him to draw power from

When it comes to Immonen's Hell Cat art, I don't care how bad the story is. I can sit and look at his awesome art all day long.

I'm about ready to drop this - even with good stories (I quite like Vanguard so far) there's no sense of momentum when you only get eight pages a month, and the anthology format more or less guarantees that they won't all be good, so far as readers' tastes go. I mean, I quite liked the Outlaw Kid segment this month, but I'm no Western fan, and even having enjoyed it I don't think I'd regret at all having left it on the shelf. Vanguard as I say is too stop-and-start due to the format, Hellcat turned out to be pretty shallow, and predictable too, and Weapon Omega - I don't care that I haven't read Omage Flight or the Collective arc, Weapon Omega is boring. This month's segment actually felt like it was mostly padding, and when you're can't find enough worthwhile story to fill eight pages a month, it's time to give up and look elsewhere.

Bottom line, this should be US$2.99 (subsidise it with ads for crying out loud, there's only six internal ad pages in the whole issue, that's fewer than you get in a 22-story-page issue - whose bright idea was it to make people pay more for the privilege of not getting to choose what kind of story they want to read?) bi-weekly (surely Marvel can find enough material in its whole damned universe to fill a bi-weekly book) and never have more than one story going that's more than four segments long (I cannot stress enough how much eight more months of Weapon Omega is a depressing prospect).

I'll have a look at #5 on the stand - I'm curious to see what they do with Shanna. But if it looks anything like the lacklustre 'Survival of the Fittest' mini, I'm done.

Vanguard is getting even more interesting.

The Hellcat ending was fun.

Outlaw Kid was okay but seemed pointless.

Weapon Omega was my favorite segment so far for its story but . . . I wish it wasn't so long . . . :(
