Starlord, Quasar, and Adam Warlock. Speaking of the bottom of the image, I love how Quasar's sword just pulls the image together and makes Ultron just that much more imposing.

Poke all you want, my character's alive and starring in a huge cosmic event while your character was torn into a billion pieces last year.

Man... that's... effin' nice looking. These covers have all been nothing short of mindblowing. If in no other category, Conquest is beating out the original mini in terms of awesome covers.

Is there an 'awesome comic covers' thread?

Wow. I've pretty much lost interest in ANYTHING Annihilation related now...
But there is no denying that is indeed quite possibly one of the best covers ever.

Holy moley
Is it just me though, or does Ultron look kind of... depressed? It's difficult to tell from what is essentially an immobile mask, and obviously it's all kinds of evil and powerful and so on, but... Well, remember that shot of Conan - I think the end of the first movie (but I'm just going from memory, so I may be getting this completely wrong) - where he's sitting on his throne, having conquered the known world or whatever, and he's all somber and brooding? Like, he's done what he thought his life's goal was to do, he's defeated all his foes, crushed jewelled thrones under his sandals and so on, and now there's nothing left for him to do - as if all the while, all the campaigns and quests he's gone on he's been hoping that he'd wind up happy once he'd done them all, and now he has done them, and it hasn't brought him anything but wealth he doesn't need and kingdoms he doesn't care about. I swear, that was my first thought when I saw that cover - Ultron's marshalled the Phalanx, conquered the Kree, crushed the resistance and the last heroes who were in his way, but whatever it was he thought victory would bring him, it just hasn't happened. Ultron's won, but he hasn't got what he wanted, and now that there's no more worlds to conquer he doesn't know what to do to try to find whatever answers he's looking for.
I know the Babel Spire is the thingy generating the forcefield around the Kree Sector and all that, but it made me wonder about the name - Babel, building a tower tall enough to reach heaven, an obsessive, mad, futile effort to reach out and touch the creator - physically touch something that can't be reached by physical means. Is Ultron in this for power and conquest, or are they just means to some end that, ultimately, can't be achieved by force of arms or assimilation of knowledge?
Sounds a bit Star Trek, actually - course, I may be completely wrong. But that's what that cover said to me, really strongly in the first instant I looked at it.

Adam's costume looks a little different than the one he's sporting now- at least the thunderbolt on the front does. I imagine it's just different artists' interpretations, but maybe he's going to get a different costume soon?

It's the same costume he was wearing on the cover of the fourth issue. I think it's just the artist's own spin on it, though it could a new costume.

Wasn't it stated in an interview with Bill Rosemann over at the rama site that Adam Warlock had a suit developed by Marko Djurdjevic that was soon to be seen, and Mr. Rosemann was all excited about it. Warlock's new suit debuts on the cover to issue four as DaeJi mentioned, so I'd guess between issues three, and four we'll see his new suit maybe?
Then again, I might have read too much into it?

That interview happened before the first issue of Annihilation: Conquest, so I think he was referring to the outfit he got in that issue.

I don't think Marko would design something so simple, but you could be right. I just like that new suit design! : D
Ultron looks awesome on the cover! Could he be satisfied over his victory or saddened by it? Also what is going on with his arms? Are they exploding? I am loving these Annihilation covers!

Now that's the kind of cover art we should see on a regular basis, not those ever depressing "poser" shots of heroes looking towards the camera. This cover is classic; super villian gloating over the fallen heroes that have endevoured to beat him, and lost. No wonder I've always regarded Ultron as one of my personal favourites; this cover shows exactly why I like him. And yes I suspect he's thinking about Pym...

That is a great cover. Reminds me of Conan the King, really. I'm sure we've all seen this cover somewhere else.
This makes me ALMOST want to pick it up. It was an excellent try.
(and Phylla isn't burnt at a stake....so we know she's not dead.....yet.) ;)

Very true, but it doesn't take away from the awesomeness of the cover. I agree with IGN, this is one of the best comic book covers I have ever seen. And it's not because it doesn't something new or creative or outside the box, it just uses a very tradition pose in an amazing way with amazing colors. The fact that it's a killer robot helps too. Also, Wendell fans need to chill, you look petty.

Awesome cover, though. Wish I could paint like that.

Yeah, it's "Ranzz" lightning bolts rather than a "Marvel Family" bolt ala the interiors.

How pissed off are the Kree gonna be at Hank Pym after this? I can totally see them going to Earth and demanding they hand over Pym for public execution. This right after the whole Mighty Avengers thing and a Skrull Invasion, too. I mean, really, damn. He's screwed.

Agreed.
It's s--t like that which has pretty much made me turn away from anything 'Annihilation' in disgust. =/

No one should let an internet comic forum affect what they like or don't like.

Well, Adam did sport that bolt for a while now. As for the cover costume... lose the belt and we might have something there.

Look at the depth. That would place the sword right next to Quasar's shoulder. Good try though, it was almost clever.

Oh, Conquest #5 wins. This is perhaps the most badass rendering of Ultron ever, and the best use of the "king sits in his throne and looks down upon his fallen enemies" concept ever.
