Lets have a popularity contest between all the characters in Ms. Marvel's book. Which character that is on the cast do you buy the book most for?

Machine Man was a veeeeery close second, but Arana and her apprenticeship under Ms. Marvel was what got me into the book in the first place.

I buy it for Ms. Marvel.

I LOVE her supporting cast in the book though, they're great. Machine Man, Agent Sum, and Wonder Man in particular have been fantastic.

I buy it for Ms. Marvel. I still reread her 70's Ms. Marvel book (the book was getting its legs when the book was cancelled with Ms. Marvel #23), her time in The Avengers, & in Uncanny X-Men.

I buy it for Carol, not for any of her supporting cast. I really enjoy the book, I dunno, maybe I'm just very easy to please. I've never read her original series before -but I might check it out in the back issue boxes of my local comic store. But Ms. Marvel is one of my favourite heroes at the moment.

I buy it for Ms. Marvel. I love her supporting cast, true, but they wouldn't be there if not for Ms. Marvel.

I like her book, its not the HOTTEST thing from Marvel, but its a fun spandex book with a great cast of characters.

Agreed. I buy it for Carol Danvers/ Ms. Marvel. The mentoring of Arana is great. I could do without Sleepwalker and Machine Man. Agent Sum is intriguing. At some point, when the whole SHRA is swept under the continuity rug I really look forward to seeing Carol not so involved with SHIELD.

The first books in this series felt more like Spider-Man in the way they were unraveling the story and I saw a lot of potential. I really feel like her allegiance to SHIELD has sort of slowed that down some.

I guess I buy Ms. Marvel for Ms. Marvel, but having Wonder Man as part of the supporting cast helps.

Early in the series, the 1977's Ms. Marvel took from the Amazing Spider-Man as a template even as far as J. Jonah Jameson being involved as a supporting character since Woman magazine was owned by the publisher of The Daily Bugle. J. Jonah Jameson was Carol's boss! However, it quickly diverted from this template since the Ms. Marvel persona existed as a separate & distinct personality. Carol Danvers would suffer blackouts & lost time. Ms. Marvel would only manifest when her 7th Sense would see an upcoming threat. Carol tried to fight Ms. Marvel, but could not. Ms. Marvel would vanish after the danger had passed leaving Carol to pick up the pieces. Eventually Ms. Marvel realized she was Carol Danvers & the two psyches would slowly integrate culminating in Ms. Marvel #19 when the Supreme Intelligence attempts to wipe Ms. Marvel's mind into a blank slate & fill her with the mind of a Kree warrior during the exposure of the Millennium Bloom.

The 1977 Ms. Marvel back issues are difficult to find because they are obscure. Good luck! The big issues are Ms. Marvel #1-4, Ms. Marvel #9 (1st Deathbird), Ms. Marvel #16 (1st Raven Darkholme), Ms. Marvel #18 (1st Raven Darkholme as Mystique), Ms. Marvel #19 (Captain Marvel), Ms. Marvel #20-21 (1st appearance of Ms. Marvel's second costume; Dave Cockrum art), & Marvel Super-Heroes Summer Special (1992) since it prints Ms. Marvel #24 (Ms. Marvel vs Sabretooth!)

The following Marvel Super-Heroes prints Ms. Marvel #25 with the Hellfire Club & the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The other half is written by someone else showing Rogue absorb Ms. Marvel's powers & psyche.

Thanks and thanks, DDM. If I can't find the old back issues, I suppose I could get Essential Ms. Marvel as an alternative.

One of the elements I liked in the original series (which they unfortunately did nothing with) was Carol mentoring MJ. I'm really enjoying her current relationship with Anya. Tough-talking bada** that she is, Carol also takes care of the people around her. I think that a strong supporting cast is important to Ms. Marvel because they bring out sides of her that we wouldn't otherwise see.

That said, I read the book for Carol.

Ms Marvel

The other characters are one-note and often dont appear for more than one page. I dont understand why you would buy a Ms Marvel book if you didn't like the main character.

It's not a matter of disliking her as much as it is a matter of liking someone else more.

I'm a huge Wondy fan and my main interest is to see him in the book but even if he wasn't in it I would still be buying it since I'm a Ms. Marvel fan too.

I definitely buy for Ms. Marvel. I also love the Ellis-ified Machine Man. The others I don't really like at all. I could especially do without Araña and Wonder Man.

I like Wonder Man, but I agree on Arana. She annoys me.

Considering J. Jonah Jameson fired Carol Danvers due to her unexplained absences when she transformed into Ms. Marvel, this plot would be a dead end. However, Chris Claremont was building up to Ms. Marvel's fateful encounter with Rogue in Ms. Marvel #24-25 (printed later in Marve Super-Heroes). This is also when Rogue encountered Sebastian Shaw since the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants double-crossed the Hellfire Club.

I find Simone to be about as bland and colorless character in the MU as you can find. Why she is dating him and not Hank McCoy is beyond me.

I'm gonna have to say duh, I buy it for Carol. Although, I love, love, love Simon, I don't buy the book for him. It's just a welcome addition.

well it kind of isn't true. she kind of got rid of Simon. and she, technically, could have had him anytime she wanted (via her powers). heck, she got Captain America to sleep with her.

I have been reading the book recently, but I enjoyed the supporting cast and the interaction they had with Carol than Carol herself.

But now, the current arc is approaching her history and showing us how she truly is, I've taken a fondness for Ms. Marvel, which is why she got my vote instead of Machine Man :p
