What currently dead or inactive heroic mantles do you think needs someone to pick up the torch?

My first pick is, of course, Madam Fatal. But beyond that, I'd like to see a new line of Fawcett legacy characters (minus the 'new' Ibis the Invincible...... the original's lasted millinea, so why not keep him? And disregarding Bulleteer.) This would include Gail's Spy Smasher.... I'd like to see her links to the original explored, and the trappings of his legacy looked into. I'd like to see Golden Arrow added to the legacy of the DCU shared-earth's Old West. Ordway introduced a new Bulletgirl, who I liked. But Mr. Scarlet & Pinky (yes, I want a new Pinky! Take that as it will), a Minute-Man, Commander Yank and Phantom Eagle would be nice.

I'd like to see what the status quo on Fury is, as well. Anyone know?

At Marvel, a Miss America and Phantom Blonde (?) would rock.

Lady Luck, USA, Moon Girl, Venus, Woman in Red, and.... lord, I forget her name, but the nurse-superheroine... Army Nurse? And all Aviatrixes ever.

(Actually, I would totally read a mini or ongoing about Zinda training a paramilitary group of young aviatrixes called the Lady Blackhawks!)

Wikipedia says that there's a new Fury over in Infinity Inc., only it's a guy with a desire for self-castration, who turns into a woman when he activates his superpowers. Lyta's daughter relocated with the Amazons, but wasn't seen during the whole Amazons Attack! mess. And Lyta herself died during Day of Vengeance.

The only nurse heroine I can think of is Night Nurse, and she still shows up in continuity.

I'll second Madam Fatal. Also, not a legacy hero, but I'd like to see a new Whirlwind (Marvel villain) now that the old one is dead. I figure make them a teenaged villain fan and you can put them up against the Young Avengers.

I think that Airwave would work well, especially if written by Gail or Morrison.

There was a young Airwave running around in the late '70s-early '80s. IIRC he was Hal Jordan's nephew or something. Whatever happened to him? (Never mind, let me guess... he was killed off in some big crossover story, right?)

Got it in one. Floating in space during infinite crisis, with the rest of the characters they didn't know what to do with.

Actually, they never said DEFINITELY if Airwave was dead or not. The guy was basically made of energy and he used himself to boost the dying words of a bunch of alien fighters so the signals would reach their home planets.

I suppose his technical status is: 'Missing, presumed dead' but as energy is neither created nor destroyed and he was pretty much just 'dispersed' they could always write him back in by saying he pulled himself back together.

And yes, he was Hal Jordan's nephew and to add to the confusion, his name was Harold Jordan as well -- just like Hal's.

As for legacy characters... I still wish they would do a kind of 'Masters of Disguise' series -- a team whose total job is infiltration -- a new Unknown Soldier, a new version of the old golden age character The King, and cut Nemesis loose from Wonder Woman and put him in charge of the team.

I believe Dan Slott introduced a new Miss America in last week's The Initiative.

That was actually her mother, the Golden Age Fury, who went to live with the Amazons. Lyta herself "moved on to the Dreaming" with her husband Hector Hall. Not quite the same as being dead.

Now let's see... There really aren't a lot left between Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters and Justice Society.

I'd go with TNT and Dan, the Dyna-Mite.

Did the Golden Age Fury die? I liked her, although she was in that awful DCU book where a dictator said he'd stop a war if Diana slept with him.

Did the Golden Age Fury die?

Nope.

n Infinite Crisis #3, after OMACs engaged the Amazons of Themyscira in battle, the Amazons and Themyscira relocate to another plane of existence. Helena Kosmatos is shown leaving with the other Amazons. She does not appear in the Amazons Attack storyline.

From Wikipedia.

Nope.

From Wikipedia.

Sitting out Amazons Attack suggests she's a wise woman.
