Holy crap! Dan Slott and Christos Gage are writing a book together!

This fills me with geekery glee!

Dan Slott is one of the best idea men in comics with maybe the exception of Grant Morrison. He has this method of using his vast knowledge of continuity to come up with new, original ideas and these great plot twists that make sense considering the character's histories. They are not as high concept ideas as Morrison, but still great.

Christos Gage, really, has never amazed me with his plots twists or original ideas. What he is a master at is characterization, an aspect that Slott doesn't always shine with. Slott will ocasionally write a character out of character to fit the plot. Not Gage, however. He does his reasearch and all the characters he writes are always in character, and are always fascinating. He takes 3rd tier characters and makes him his own, rekindling what makes them interesting to the audience. Like Slott, he really knows his continuity.

They even compliment each other with action scenes. When Slott does write action, it is usually very past paced and has a roller coaster feel to it. Gage, on the other hand, writes high impact chess matches. All the moves the participants make sense, everything is logical. Green Arrow makes his move, Deadshot counters perfectly and then makes his move...not as intense as some other action scenes but fun to watch play out.

Whichever editor put these two together, it is a stroke of genius! It has me really excited about the upcoming Avengers: The Initiative.

I was very dissapointed with it and dropped it.

But, the addition of Gage? I'll give it another shot :)

The Avengers: THe Initiative is a really, really good book.

Avengers: The Initiative is basically the "spine" of the Marvel Universe. So it's like Countdown in that way. Except it can actually be good, which means it is different from Countdown.

It's the only good Avengers book right now.
Good stories even if the place is run by a *&%$#@* like Gyrich and Stark.

A:tI is a good book, and i HATED it when it came out.
Dan proved he could take a concept i dislike, and create a ENJOYABLE reading experience out of it.

But as much as i LIKE Mr. Gage's work,i am worried that it will detract from what Dan has created. Then again,it just may even get better.

Either way,i am along for the ride as long as either gentleman stay as writers.

Even less interested now. Hell, I barely read Thunderbolts, and it's damned excellent. The shared universe stuff just isn't interesting to me.

I really think highly of the work they've done individually, so seeing how they have fun together should be a blast. And I hope they DO have fun with it.

They should give Gage his own book.

Like Union Jack.

He might be good on Moon Knight, too.
