All-New Atom #18 -- Best. Ending. Yet. (no spoilers)

I promise, I won't spoil it. But that was the best comic book final page I've seen in months. Gail and Mike really outdid themselves this issue.

Wonder Woman speaks Head's language... literally! :eek:

Ryan says delightfully inappropriate things.

I can understand Ryan's disappointment at not getting spumoni ice cream. I LOVE spumoni. Dammit Gail, now I'm going to end up buying a quart of spumoni and it's like 28 degrees and snowing outside here!

Mike's art just gets better. I think in these last two issues I can safely say that he has reached a level of total comfort with all of these characters. His Wonder Woman is pitch perfect and if the Dodsons ever need a break over on the Wonder Woman title Gail can always grab Mike to fill in.

Lots and lots of laughs, 'holy crap!' moments, and "eeewww, I really, really, didn't need to know that" moments as well.

I would also like to go on the record as saying that I LIKE Ray Palmer but I find that Ryan is a wonderful legacy to Ray and does nothing but honor the Silver Age wackiness that has gone before. More insanity please, more laughs, and more Head because there just are not enought comic books out there that are fun to read without being heavy or depressing.

I hope Gail really does something more original with The Black Mercy than Johns did when he brought it back.

I think Ryan will be a bit overshadowed by the other new member in the JLA though but on the other hand they could be pretty good friends too. After all they are both relatively new to the hero biz. They are surrounded by icons and are bound to get just a little starstruck from time to time. And of course
Prof. Stein and Ryan Choi can have some fascinating conversations that will go right over Jason's head. And imagine how much fun Gehenna can have with this. Definitely all kinds of fun possibilities. Only thing is I don't remember seeing anything in solicits suggesting Atom is going to be appearing in JLA any time soon. There are so many characters already on the team that there probably isn't room for him to make an appearance right now.

Of course that doesn't rule out Gail doing a JLA appearance within the book.
After all they kind of made one in the first arc in an alternate future that didn't happen.

I was let down with the Wonder Woman appearances. Sure, we get Ryan holding on to her girdle, but I thought we might get some homage to Bruce Timm's JLU by having Ryan shrink down and ride in her boobs.

Otherwise, it was an alright issue.

And Ryan is just a great hero, his monologue is brilliant.

I only got into Atom with #17 but I love this book already. 10/10
