Okay, so after reading as much as I have, I now side with the theory that DC is just throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

So that begs the question, what actually will stick?

I'm pretty sure Sinestro Corps will stick around with the reasoning that only the mattered multiverse is rebooted leaving the antimatter universe in tact.

What do you got?

If we get some sort of full, all out reboot, there is always one character that remembers. I nominate Ray Palmer.

Nothing will stick and we'll get another weekly series that sets up another event.

No, but seriously most of the good stuff from 52 (Booster Gold, Black Adam), various OYL issues (Batman & Superman) and the Green Lantern work is definitely going to stick.

I have a feeling that DC is throwing all of the multiverse stuff at readers in a short period of time because FC will streamline the universe once again.

So enjoy all of these convoluted, crappy stories with multiple versions of DC heroes while you still can <g>...

I think the Red Rain Batman will be the new "real" Batman.

Superman will still be weak as compared to other heroes. Despite seeing what a real 'Supes' is capable of (Prime), the weakened wussy will still just fly around Earth and grovel at Lois' feet. Obey me, Smallville - says the One who must be obeyed.

Seriously (yeah), I would like to see a Supes raised to a level above the pack. The mantra that he is special because of his farm boy values, doesn't cut it for me.

in superman/series there was a arc were he and batman were raised as gods basically. They were the rulers of earth.

That would be so stupid of an idea to me, go through all this hopla of 52 and such to bring back the multiverse and less then 2 years later destroy it again.

I don't think I've seen that one. I've got some scavenging to do.

I think the Multiverse will stick. I suspect that only New Earth will be rebooted, and that we'll have a version of Earth-One back and probably a version of post-COIE ClutterEarth which is NOT the same as New Earth, so that we can have an alternate timeline where the '90s still matter and haven't been completely retconned or invalidated. That Earth might turn out to be where Titans Tomorrow happens.

Nothing will stick over the years , that's the nature of the beast when it comes to comic book continuity. Different writers will come different ideas , new writers with new ideas and then they will change what is/was to what has been especially nowadays when comic companies like to hire "big shot" writers who used to work outside of comics (TV/movie/novels) and give them a lot of leeway to do what they pleased.
Not to mention , there will always be hacks like the likes of Bruce Jones & Chuck Austen who would write comics according only to their only continuity.

There will be a superman, a batman, a flash, several green lanterns, and a justice league.

I think we'd have to have some real idea of where FC leads before we could make intelligent guesses about what will survive it.

The multiverse should remain, but New Earth should be destroyed. I mean, this planet is one revamp away from imploding, isn't it? Every new retcon upsets the balance of the force or something.

Unless the Tangent project announced today is on a twice-monthly schedule, its 12-issue run will go several months past the end of "Final Crisis". Kinda suggests that the multiverse will stick around, but then, I can't figure why DC would telegraph that when, obviously, speculation on Final Crisis inevitably involves a reboot. In fact, it's odd that they're publicizing anything (Tangent, GL, and soon, JSA) that implies continuity across the conclusion of "Final Crisis".

I think all the stuff that's popular will stay, the half-baked stuff that didn't work will go away and everything else will revert back to its default setting.

Additionally:

1 The old New Gods will die and then be replaced with new New Gods for awhile, then in about three years they'll be back and merge with whatever new New Gods that are popular.

2 Superman-Prime is here to stay and he'll be the villain du jour for any ailing titles that need a sales boost. Over time, his power-level will start to gradually wane and he'll get used as a "jobber".

I would like to see one of two things happen -

1. Single Merged Earth again like post COIE but this time WW did start out like in her original origin, Katar was silver age Hawkman and somehow Superman, Batman and WW were present during the Golden Age (time travel?) despite being young still in order to still have a reference to the original JSA stories.

or

2. Multiverse remains with the following Earth -

Earth 2 - Golden Age heroes or at least a replica of the Golder Age heroes era
Earth 1 - Same as above but for Silver age....continues from Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow"

Earth X (insert number here) - Post COEI and Pre IC Earth that has the darker characters.

..................oh and one Earth based on Smallville where everyone is still in their teens and there are no official superheroes yet. This Earth's Clark can meet New Earth's Superman and at the end of the adenture, still refuse to believe that he can fly....<rolls eyes.....> :)

I still prefer choice 1. In the long run its simpler that way.

I hope that Final Crisis is the final fight to save the Multiverse and this time the heroes are able to save it. Kal-L and E2 Lois return. SBP is killed. New Earth Prime is found with Superboy that is free from current legal troubles (I can only hope:( ). New Earth-1 is Silver Age. One of the earths is based on Post-COIE (I like the idea that this is Titans Tommorrow Earth). Earth based on Smallville. Earth based on Timmverse. New Earth is where continuity is streamlined and a good History of the DCU is written to explain all the changes. This streamlined continuity will allow writers not to worry about continuity hopefully for a few years. Titles from each of the new Earths will appear from time to time under a label that clearly labels what Earth the story takes place on. There will be limited crossover between the Earths (limit to about once a year-- could be Annual type events). Artists with alternative ideas can still utilize Elseworlds when there stories don't fit in one of the 52 but this will be a different imprint used only for unique miniseries ideas that will not interact with the regular DCU. I would like an average of 5 non-New Earth titles as mini-series being published at once like E1 Superman (see All-Star Superman), E2 JSA, E5 Shazam, E10 Freedom Fighters, etc. with some being specifically character-oriented like E22 Cyclone.

I can dream can't I?:D

Hear Hear!, im so sick of Cloud Strife boy Prime... I hope something SEVERE happens to him.

I do the Older but "Real" Legion sticks around. the current action comics arc gives me some hope.

I think the 52 are gone. DC is going out of it's way to kill off every interesting hero in each of them and most are just lonely esleworlds anyway, so why even keep them around.

In it's place, I imagine the real infinite earths will come back.

My money is on the exact opposite tbh. I think there so blaze about destroying whole worlds as they intend to introduce a whole load more.
