I've checked reviews online and can't find what I need to know, so...

Can anyone tell me if the softbound SHOWCASE PRESENTS SUPERGIRL #1 includes any of the early COMET THE SUPER-HORSE stories?

My niece likes horses so I thought those basically-innocent tales would appeal to her.

Also, I don't see evidence that a Vol. 2 has made it out-- true?

Here (http://www.dcuguide.com/chronology.php?name=cometthesuperhorse) are a list of Comet appearances I could find.

According to this (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=8798) solicitation, none of those are included.

But perhaps something's been neglect somewhere.

Those appearances might convince your niece to start dating horses. :)

Some real "classics" there...

"The Secret Identity of Super-Horse"
"The Day Super-Horse Became Human"
"The Revenge of the Super-Pets"

Heh.

No, but vol. 1 just came out, so give it time.

I still say that DC needs to put out a collection of the best Super-pets related stories. There's a real gap in the market for something like this that would appeal to younger readers as well as fun-loving adults.

Just think of it...a whole TPB full of Comet the Super-horse, Beppo the Super-Monkey, Streaky the Supercat & Krypto the superdog stories. Then they could top it all off with a few choice Legion of Super-Pets stories. :D

That would be all kinds of awesome, right there.

Now that you put it this way...

I would envision it as "Krypto the Super-Dog: The Greatest Super-Pets Stories Ever Told", playing both off Krypto's higher name recognition and the format of the "Greatest XXX Stories Ever Told" TPBs.

That means an Alex Ross cover (which I'm certain he'd supply).

And the contents would be a mix of stuff from various eras, probably including "Who was that dog I saw you with last night?" by Maggin, the DC 9/11 tribute with Krypto and Kurt Busiek's yet unpublished Krypto story. (Maybe the Loeb/Churchill issue where Krypto takes down Mongul.)

The trick would be to balance new and old content and all four super-pets.

And I think it would be worth DC buying Elliot Maggin's "Starwinds Howl" and illustrating it, either as a special to be released at the same time or in the TPB.
