View Full Version : Frank Miller/Klaus Janson dispute over Dark Knight?

I read somewhere that Klaus Janson didn't finish the inks on the last issue or two of Dark Knight with Frank Miller because of a dispute the two artists had. Can anyone tell me what the dispute was over, did Janson want to leave Dark Knight and is there still a rift between Miller and Janson?
I'm curious about this, because I'd never heard this before.
Thanks,

Never heard that before. I'm inclined to not believe it. The art didn't change and Janson's style can be seen clear to the end of the book. Miller doens't ink like Janson.

From what I've read (interview with Janson), a good portion of book 3 and maybe a little more (I'd have to check for exacts) were re-inked by Miller, and Janson says it was more a Miller book than anything. I don't know if there is any bad blood between them, or if there is, it's anything that can't be resolved by Marvel going "we need an anniversary edition Daredevil cover...."

Really. Huh, I'd never heard that. I didn't notice much change in the inking either.
Man, I really need to get my copy of DKR back.

There's a definite change in style, as the later books go toward the current Frank Miller style, the style that's also seen in Ronin, rather than the tight inks of Janson.
On www.comicartfans.com, one of the art collectors has some panel correction art done due to the dispute.

Also, the dispute is referenced on Wikipedia in Klaus Janson's entry, but it doesn't give details about the dispute.

Hey, if it's on Wikipedia, it must be true. Embrace truthiness.

Maybe if you asked nice instead of taking a jab?
Whatever the dispute was it couldn't be that serious when you figure that they then went on to work together on other projects such as Batman: Year one.

I don't think Janson was involved with Year One.

He wasn't. I can't think of anything after DKR that they worked on together.
