Sounds like a good idea, but I personally didn't care much for the live action movie and I've never read the manga. The book is execellent, though, I won't mind a series or mini-series adaption of that.

Anyway who's read both, how close is the manga to the book?

Manga is a fair bit closer to the book.

It builds on the characters backstories a huge amount though, which I personally enjoy.

I loved the Manga, but man does it get gruesome in some places. They definetly did not spare on the gore in that one. I haven't read the book so I am not sure how graphic it gets as far as describing some of the deaths, but the manga goes all out showing them in super graphic detail. It was defiently a lot more graphic than the movie. I liked the movie alot, but I think the manga was better.

The book is pretty explicit, I believe it was edited for content when it was originally released in Japan. It was unedited when it was originally released here and yes, it has some very gruesome depictions.
