Each year I try to get my dad something comics related. He was born in '37 and grew up reading comic books, comic strips, etc.
Last year I got him the first volume of the Dick Tracy collection. In year's past I've gotten him the first two volumes of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
This year I was thinking either the latest League of Extraordinary Gentlemen release or perhaps the TPBs of DC: The New Frontier.
Any suggestions? I'm particularly interested in any comic strip collections you'd recommend but if you want to go off the reservation, that's cool too.

Terry and the Pirates and Peanuts both have nice collections out. I was thinking about picking them up myself.

He might enjoy the Flash Gordon comic strip reprints from Checker: those are sweet.
BTW, a warning about the latest League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: it's filled with erotic art. It's not necessarily pornographic, but it contains numerous images of copulation. It's a fantastic book, but...just thought I'd let you know in case you didn't already. If my father--who also enjoyed comic strips when he was younger--saw the new League, he'd flip his lid.

My wife and I have been enjoying the big red Little Nemo anthology as of late. It's surprisingly cheap for such a big, handsome volume.

I'm not sure whether this would be an appropriate suggestion or not but what about some vintage 50s and 60s British comics? I'm thinking specifically about Dan Dare by the late, great Frank Hampson - sci-fi adventures full of Second World War style British stiff upper lip-ness and dastardly intergalactic villains!
Titan Books have some nice hardcover collections of these beautifully drawn comics out at the moment. They're around $15 each on Amazon and the first two volumes 'Voyage To Venus' parts 1 & 2 come highly recommended.
Here's a sample of what awaits the reader in these books...

This is what prompted the thread in the first place - I read somewhere about the inclusion of Tijuana Bibles being included and it didn't necessarily scream "perfect gift for dad." I'd rather not give too much thought to whether or not he'd be bothered by it, if you know what I mean.

I have some of the Peanuts volumes, and they're top notch. Terry and the Pirates might be a good fit for him.
My wife and I have been enjoying the big red Little Nemo anthology as of late. It's surprisingly cheap for such a big, handsome volume.
That was something I just assumed was out of my price range - I'll have to look into it.
