So I haven't seen a what is everyone reading thread lately. I actually use these to get ideas on what might be worth trying. I myself am almost completely Marvel and DC free now. It is nothing personal against the big two they obviously have the best characters and great stories but they finally big evented, weekly, crossovered me out. So anyway here is what I am pulling:

Marvel:
Iron Fist

DC:
Legion

Dynamite/Devils Due
I always get these two mixed up, but I am doing Lone Ranger and G.I. Joe, America's Elite. One is with dynamite the other Devils Due I think

Dark Horse
Star Wars Legacy

Image
Casanova, Fell, Mice Templar, Dynamo 5

Marvel

Powers, Criminal, Punisher Max

Courny Crumrin & The Fire Thieves Tale, Maakies, Billy Hazelnuts, 30 Days of Night, Wormwood Gentleman Corpse.

It's always a bit of fun to see what other Comm board CBRers read. Sometimes I've surprised to see that folks that I have strong agreements with on issues like politics and religion have very similar tastes in comic books. Like cactusmaac. Good taste, that guy.

What I'm reading these days:

Monthlies:

(MARVEL)

THE NEW AVENGERS
THE MIGHTY AVENGERS
CAPTAIN AMERICA
DAREDEVIL
THE INCREDIBLE HULK
THE HULK
MARVEL ADVENTURES HULK

ASTONISHING X-MEN
HEDGE KNIGHT II: THE SWORN SWORD mini-series
ULTIMATE HULK VS. WOLVERINE mini-series (if it ever comes out)

(DC)

BOOSTER GOLD
THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD
GREEN LANTERN
GREEN LANTERN CORPS
JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA
ALL-STAR SUPERMAN
BLACK ADAM
SALVATION RUN

From Marvel, anything Ed Brubaker. Iron Fist, Captain America, and Daredevil are easily three of the best books Marvel's putting out. I'm also enjoying the way Nicieza's Deadpool book has been going since they dropped Cable out of it and he's been teaming up with miscellaneous superheroes for the past few issues, while toting around his sidekick HYDRA agent. There's also a pretty hilarious Howard the Duck mini-series coming out at the moment, too.

But most of Marvel's other titles I'm finding pretty lukewarm.

DC's, despite some ridiculously bad editorial direction, is actually putting out quite a few awesome books. McKeever's run on Teen Titans has been the only book since PAD's Young Justice that made me love reading about these characters. It's actually fun again. And Rogers and Albuquerque's Blue Beetle is one of the best new superhero books in the past few years. Dini's Detective Comics has been great, but Morrison's Batman has its ups and downs, though I've generally enjoyed it, and they're currently in the middle of "The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul" crossover with Nightwing (being written by the awesome Fabian Nicieza for the duration of the crossover) and Robin, which Chuck Dixon will be returning to after the crossover's done. Busiek's Superman and occasional Action Comics fill-ins have been a lot of fun, and Geoff Johns' Action Comics run with Donner has had a lot of promising moments. And Gail Simone has finally taken over as ongoing Wonder Woman writer, and turned the series almost completely around in one issue.

And, of course, there are great books like All-Star Superman by Morrison and Quitely and The Spirit by Cooke, J. Bone and Dave Stewart, who will soon be replaced by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier. Really, a lot of the stuff DC is putting out is pretty good to great, unless it gets mangled in the crossover hysteria of Countdown.

What else? Uh... Mike Allred's doing another Madman series with Image. Ennis and Darick Robertson took The Boys to Dynamite. Also, there's a book called Superpowers coming out this month, I think, by Alex Ross, using a bunch of public domain characters like the original Daredevil and Mandrake the Magician as characters. At Dark Horse, as always, the Hellboy and BPRD books are seven kinds of awesome, and there are at least two of their books coming out every month for the foreseeable future as Mike Mignola's gearing up for the big third act in the Hellboy saga. Also, an insanely awesome Lobster Johnson mini-series is about halfway done. Also from Dark Horse, Gerard Way (the singer from My Chemical Romance, but don't hold it against him) and Gabriel Ba (co-artist from Matt Fraction's awesome book, Casanova) are writing a mini-series called The Umbrella Academy about a misfit group of mutants who grow up as superheroes and become a big, dysfunctional family trying to save the world from the apocalypse. And in the vein of superkids, there's an awesome book nobody's reading called PS238 from Do Gooder Press by Aaron Williams that's at least worth checking out. It's a fun book, really accessible (which is great for me, because my shop doesn't always get it) and worth sharing.

Oh, and then there's Mouse Guard: Winter 1152, but I don't know how regularly that's coming out since I only have the one issue. I'm pretty sure the second one hasn't come out yet.

Absolutely nothing!

Which means...
I need to catch up to the last 20 issues of Daredevil,
get all of Iron Fist,
half the Captain America series,
90% sold on Casanova. All I've seen and heard about it shows it to be exactly the kind of book I would write if I'd thought of it first.
I think ASB+R might be picking up.
And I've been getting all the Zombie Marvel books, I'm getting a little sick of them, but they're fun and the characterization ain't bad, even though they're zombies.
For DC, whatever books Chuck Dixon is taking over might be on my bookshelf soon.

I need to find some more "outside of the box" type stuff.

Speak of the Devil, the miniseries Gilbert Hernandez is doing for Dark Horse. The latest installment, #3, was the best yet. Too bad it's only 6 issues, I'm getting into it to the point where I'd like to see it go on for longer. I read pretty much everything the Hernandezes do, including Love and Rockets, which apparently will now be a single large (100+ pages) issue annually.

Countdown to Mystery, The Dr. Fate thing Steve Gerber is doing. Unfortunately it's paired up with sonther series I have no interest in at all, Eclipso or something. But the Gerber Fate is looking good so far, 3 issues in, though I would prefer to see him working with his own creations rather than established characters.

Godland, which I might drop. The quality has tailed off a little, especially the most recent issue, #20. Or maybe I'm just losing interest.

Ellis's Desolation Jones and Fell, when they come out.

Suburban Glamour, by Jamie McKelvie. I might try to make myself wait for the trade rather than carry on buying the individual issues for this one. Love the artwork.

I agree, Godland really hasn't gone anywhere in awhile. I think he needs a love interest or something. It needs a little more character development.

I read everything in trade which makes things a little easier for me in that I can find out here if its good and I don't have to worry about missing an issue. So far what I'm collecting is:

Powers (got up through 5)
Paul Dini's Batman (lack of funds has kept me from grabbing the second one)
Cable and Deadpool (1-4)
Star Wars Empire (just need the last volume before i get into Rebellion)
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
JSA (only got the first three)
BPRD (only have the first two)
Conan (I have the four volumes but don't have any of the side trades yet)
Rex Mundi (can't wait for the next trade)
She-Hulk (got the first one on a whim and loved it)

The ones I'm most looking forward to getting soon are The Spirit, World War Hulk, Annihilation Conquest, All Star Superman vol 2, Star Trek TOS season 4 and Klingons: Blood Will Tell.

Of course now that I'm trying to save up to go to a real college it means I'll have even less money for my comics, but hopefully I'll find someway to get them.

Marvel:

New Avengers
Mighty Avengers
Avengers: The Initiative
Captain America
Fantastic Four
Daredevil
Iron Fist
The Order
The Hulk
Incredible Hulk/Herc

Criminal
Powers
Ultimate Spider-Man

Plus a few random mini-series, like Captain Marvel, Annihilation: Conquest, and MODOK's 11.

DC:
Batman (when not in crossover mode)
100 Bullets
All-Star Superman
Ex Machina
Fables

Other:
Casanova
The Boys
Empowered
Scott Pilgrim
Godland (TPBs)
Age of Bronze (TPBs)

I think I have finally pruned my read list down to a manageable level. Here is what's left:

Monthlies:

Star Wars (all of them)
Usagi Yojimbo
Conan
Groo and/or anything else Sergio Aragones puts out

Occassionally released:

Path of the Assassin
Satsuma Gishiden (although I think DHC has cancelled this one)
Age of Bronze TPB (when "regular means once every 3 years, why not?)
Y: The Last Man TPB
Chronicles of Conan TPB reprints
Blade of the Immortal TPB
Peacemaker
Vagabond

Interestingly, alot of the series I am following right now are going to be ending in the next year or so, which means I may be calling something up from the "Audition" List soon. Here is what is on the audition list right now:

Hellboy/BPRD (Kind of hoping DHC releases some Omnibusses for these)
Mouse Guard
Fables

You won't get any from me, but I hope you come back after. It's still a good book.

Anyhow, I'm currently reading:

Spider-Man, but I'm 99% likely to drop it after One More Day.

All the X-Books during the current crossover, dropping back to Uncanny, X-Men and X-Factor afterwards. And Astonishing, but that almost doesn't count thanks to the continual delays.

She-Hulk, Runaways, the upcoming Young Avengers mini, and Fantastic Four. FF I will probably drop when Millar and Hitch come on, as I haven't been able to stand a goddamn thing Millar has written this millennium. Runaways, I'll stick out through the current arc, and give Terry Moore and Humberto Ramos at least a try.

Lethem's Omega the Unknown is weird, but good. It'll probably read better in trade.

Cable and Deadpool is almost over, which makes me sad.

I've been catching up with Ed Brubaker's Cap, Daredevil, and Iron Fist in trade. Most people probably haven't noticed it, but he's Marvel's best writer right now.

Marvel Adventures: Avengers gives me hope and joy.

All-Star Superman and The Spirit make me happy. I have high hopes for the new Spirit team.

Wonder Woman got off to a really strong start. Teen Titans is finally good. Birds of Prey and Legion of Superheroes, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new creative teams can do. Justice League, I'm putting up with the art so far, so I hope McDuffie can really wow me.

Blue Beetle is the best book I'm buying in trade right now. Well, tied with Y and Fables.

Astro City, when it comes out, is the best book I'm buying, period.

Invincible, Fallen Angel, and Gargoyles round out the pack.

Well, I am relatively new to comics, so have been catching up with TPBs of all the best works out there for the past year. I want to start reading monthly comics now (as per the 'normal' convention) so I am going to get Fell (if it carries on beyond 8 in the TPB?) and depending on how the first TPB for The Boys is, get that as well. I read all of Preacher and think it's one of the best things I have read (I have read many, many 'proper' books) so I have high hopes for The Boys.

Other than those two, I will have a look round and see what else grabs me.....

I'm currently buying, and enjoying, all the Invincible TPBs. Last time I was at the comic shop, I told the guy to stop pulling books for me, except for Powers, and I only bought one of the Invincible TPBs.

Monthy......I've cut way back, but I think that I still get most of these:

Batman (Morrison issues only)
Daredevil (I think I'm about to drop this one)
Punisher MAX (if the next arc isn't really good, I may drop it and only buy TPBs of arcs that are great)
100 Bullets. (at this point I'm really just buying this one so I'll have the complete run, and see how it all turns out in the end. This is nowhere near the book it was a couple of years ago)
Powers (not as good as it used to be. I think that Bendis is streching himself too thin writing so many books, but it's still better than most things out there)
Wolverine: Origins (one issue I'll read this and say "I'm dropping this if it doesn't get better" and then the next issue is really good so it makes me buy the next issue and the cycle continues. I've always been a sucker for all those "Wolverine's secret origin" stories. Now there is a whole series made up of them! I'm a sucker)
Fell (I get this whenever it comes out)

I'm currently collecting Invincible, New Avengers, Squadron Supreme and some of the other books that came from Supreme Powers in TPB format. At some point, I'll just go to that altogether, but I can't get over buying some books each month.

I used to read about 30 books a month. But that was years ago.

My reading fluctuates. If I don't enjoy something for more than a few months, I drop it. But these few have been good choices for quite a while now:

Ex Machina
Fables
Jack of Fables
All-Star Superman
Astro City

Odd, there are about 3 or 4 others, but I can't remember them. Age.

I had been picking up Hulk and World War Hulk. But, even though I could see a major letdown coming from miles and miles and miles away, I'm still disappointed and have dropped both of them.
