How would you feel about Warren being reverted back to Death? [Archive]

I was an impressionable teen when Warren became Death, but I loved the story and the character, so I voted awesome but with the caveat that there would need to be a really good story to do this. Heck, Angel needs some character development and love anyway, so any attention he got would be welcome.

That was kinda cute, yet bizarre. But his orange was this strange yellow orange. It probably would've looked better bleached blonde.

If he were to revert to Archangel, he should be RED! Or GREEN! Two very important colors the X-Men seem to often neglect (NOT A RACETHINGPLEASEDONTTALKABOUTIT).

I would be fine with him having an energy soulsword, increased strength (around 5 tons) and enhanced durability (slightly above bulletproof) with a healing factor.

But god, don't even joke about that. Haven't we learned by now that letting CC get his hands on Warren *does not end well*? :)

The poll? Switching him back to Death (bad-guy Death) is a bad idea. Switching him back to his metal-winged, blue-skinned self is a wrongheaded idea in my opinion. Do I think that Warren should have kept the blue skin and metal wings? Yes I do - not for combat purposes (Warren's combat capable either way,) but because character change and *consequences* shouldn't be lightly discarded. The blue skin and the metal wings were the best kind of big event affecting a character. A character is severely affected - with all the attendant drama - but is still around and usable. It's all the good parts of killing a character with none of the drawbacks.

But artificially creating the same circumstances again, 20 years later, just compounds the problem. The storyline and coincidence required become ridiculous. (I think the saying is, "First time is tragedy. Second time is farce.") Work with what you have. Warren's got story potential either way.

OMG YES! Archangel was 1000 times cooler and popular character. His wings actually were dangerous and he could fly at supersonic speeds etc...people just looked at him and he was 1000 times more threatening, dangerous of a mutant! No. Because I cannot conceive any circumstances where it would be plausible, because ever since the metal wings were retconned out of being replacement constructs for the amputated wings the only way you could ever revisit that would be to have Apocalypse convince Warren to be a Horseman again. I honestly don't see how that would ever be possible.

Agreed. I'd say this goes for Hank, Rogue and Betsy as well honestly, even though I'm likely in the minority on that one... reversion for the sake of it doesn't help characters long term imo.

I believe this too, especially in the case of Beast. Reverting him would destroy the major themes of his struggle of intellect vs. appearance and instinct.

I can imagine Angel's wings changing into a natural form of barbed feathers though i wouldn't want to see him return to exactly the same Death-angel form. I can't really imagine that reverting Angel back to his old form was Apocalypse's masterplan with regards to angel. Surely something is brewing inside angel and his association with apocalypse may one day come back to bite him in his wellformed behind.

I voted "craptacular." Been there, done that. Personally, I loved the beginning of Joe Casey's run where Angel was carrying that sonic disruptor gun. IMO he should just carry weapons of some sort in order to make himself more useful in a fight.

Besides, the X-men have enough characters running around with sharp pointy objects.;)

The Angel from Weapon X (in Exiles) that was an assassin who carried duel pistols was awesome. But that wouldn't make a lot of sense seeing as our Warren isn't a stone cold killer.

While Arcangel was badass IMO, him reverting back to that form would just seem awkward.

Exactly. There's no such thing as a bad character just a bad writer.

I like Warren, he just seems to have the luck that a lot of writers don't seem to know what to do with him unfortunately. (at least lately)

The thing that I like about Angel as death is he becomes more of a force and useful to the team not only in powers but mindset also. When Angel is normal he goes back to the regular hardly of any use to the X-Men personality. They should try to make him as bad ass being normal as he is when he is Death. And no I dont mean giving the man a sword and healing blood. blehh

I wouldn't disagree... it was crap when Lobdell gave the feathers back and even crappier when Austin reverted his skin. But that doesn't mean we should make things even more cyclical and revert yet again.

Even though I preferred telepathic english Psylocke or superstrong, super tough, flying Rogue, I don't want those characters just reverting to type for the sake of it either. If there's an interesting narrative pull for it, then maybe, but in general I like my characters going forwards and not backwards...

I don't need him to be bad ass. I loved that issue when he ended the Vanisher's drug war without a fight, doing what he was good at and winning as a bisinessan. I loved passive characters like Pixie and Cypher. He can be as passive as they write him...but we don't even get to see him being written as "useful".

Warren being Archangel again would just be a massive step backwards for the character - he was so grim & gritty and emo during the metal-wings/blue skin/scary mullet period that he doesn't deserve to go back there.

That, and he had a mullet. That's just wrong on about a million different levels...

Having said that, however: I liked him the best when he was rocking the blue skin and his feathered wings, and wearing the red version of his classic Neal Adams suit. That was when he was the bestest Archangel everest.

Archangel's hair did not come back until around 1995, before he was bald as a result of Apocalypse's treatment.

Personally, I prefer Warren with the blue skin, bald, & metal wings, but I would not like him back as Death.

I like Warren...always have but I miss the blue skin, the moping attitude, and the metal wings. I don't care what anyone says but it was a good look. I know with Uncanny #500 coming up, they will probably leave him looking original but I miss that run.
