What is with Marvel's and Dc's fascination of characters that use skis and take lives? Is there any story behind this?

Just got off the phone with Peter Cetera, and he said that he saw a black figure on skis standing nearby when Sonny Bono was killed, but it may just have been Richard Roundtree on vacation.

I'd imagine that Deathurge was a Black Racer homage. It's a very Gruenwaldian thing to do.

The skis on both characters never looked cool.
The only character who can pull that off is Silver Surfer but the surf board is 100x better of a design choice.
