The Teacher for my Expository writing class is really open about the projects that we do in class and she rarely sets that many guidelines or limits for them. Currently we are doing our research unit, which I had dreaded until I actually found out what we were supposed to produce. We were given the choice of writing a typical research paper or we could do the much less linear MULTIGENRE RESEARCH PROJECT. A multigenre research project, I later found out, was basically a gathering of a bunch of separate either written pieces and actual objects used to form a coherent singular idea or experience. So I thought to myself, why would i want to spend hours writing a nice long paper with perfect MLA citations, when I could create something enjoyable for me to do. I thought about a topic and settled with the broad topic of video games. I did some research but realized I wasn't entertaining myself very much. The next morning I was thinking about my comics and came up with a brilliant idea. I went to my teacher that day and asked, “could I possibly do my project on the experience of being a fictional minority?" After some explanation she quickly agreed to let me do my project on being a mutant. So here is the actual discussion of this thread.

What different aspects of a mutant's life do you think affect them the most?

It can be specific events or vague things that all mutants go through. I have some ideas, but I want to see if other people view the same events as important as I do.

Thanks in advance for any help
and sorry I just wrote a novel

Physical deformities obviously.
Being different from everyone else.
Some uncontrollable powers maybe.

It's endless!

The fact that most of humanity frowns upon their existance. That they aren't referred to or thought of as human beings. That they are feared and opressed by something that they had no say in - that they were born with.

The 'coming of age,' or first manifestation is typically painful, either physically or mentally due (trauma).

Some mutants are unable to even interact normally in a social environment (IE Rogue, Wither, etc.)

Mutancy has a stigma.

It really is endless.
