Welcome to X-Crescence, which is from the word excrescence, which is defined as "An outgrowth or enlargement, especially an abnormal one, such as a wart."
Well, this is an outgrowth from the X-Boards proper.
This is where you pretty much can post whatever you want.
Civility rules apply here!
Enjoy.

A question for any who choose to answer:
Marvel's Essential Line; great to read, or loses too much by being in black & white?
I can't decide if I want to try them. I just get hung up on the lack of color, so I thought I'd ask anyone who's read them if it works.

I like them but I think the more recent the comics, the worse they look in B&W.

That's helpful, 'cause the ones I'm currently considering are Dr. Strange and Thor (both Vol. 1), so they'd be old.

I really, really want to play Gears of War but it came out before I got my 360. I've only had it for a couple months, and ever since I've had it, its been raining great games!
So I figured I would do the new stuff now, and by the time I'm done with them, maybe Gears of War will drop to their lower price or Platinum games or whatever the hell they call 'em.

I decided on Vanguard as well, with a little side dabbling with an Infiltrator character.

Yesterday at work, this guy comes in to our ICU from another hospital, where they had put a stent in his femoral artery. It blew out, and they called me in blood bank. I got the phone call to grab whatever O Positive or O Negative Units I could, depending on whatever history was on the patient, and run upstairs. They're giving him chest compressions and hooking like eight IVs up to the guy at once, one of which they take the unit of packed red blood cells from me and hook up. I was running around back downstairs to keep crossmatching units on the guy. He got stable at 0730, and he was going to pull through. I went home at 0830 after getting all the paperwork squared away, finally.
At 0900, he was taken to the catheter lab, and they tried to see what went wrong with his stent... and ended up blowing out his femoral artery again. The day shift blood bankers, all four of them, couldn't keep up with it, and the guy bled out on a gurney in the catheter lab. I found out when I came in today.
Then I logged on and saw the New X-Men 45 preview... when I saw that image of Beast... I had the same feeling.
I really am glad I have tomorrow off. I need to decompress with tea in my backyard.

I just got my car back from the shop yesterday after having the clutch replaced (they told me it basically fell apart when they went to take it out). The bad news is that I'm out a little over a grand. Blah.
However, the good news is that my car now drives like a virgin, touched for the very first time. It's awesome... the acceleration is like crazy, I totally forgot how fast my car used to be. I touched the gas pedal right after I turned on the engine and was almost thrown back in my seat, then almost stalled because the clutch requires about half the amount of pressure to push in as it did before. Sweet. :D

The entire nation of Scotland gets the "dumb-ass of the day award." The government spent six months and $250,000 to develop its new, award-winning slogan: Welcome to Scotland. (http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Quirks/2007/11/28/new_slogan_welcome_to_scotland/7038/)

LOL. It's a shadow actually. After I filled it in, I meant to erase it, but oh well.

I quit Young Justice when little Lobo shat all over it. Did Arrowette ever get resolution? What about Secret?
Depends what you mean by "resolution." Cissie never put the costume back on (except in the Spyboy/Young Justice crossover, when Bart stole her regular clothes while she was in the shower). But she did come to terms with living a normal life, and more importantly, Cassie and the others came to respect her decision. There was a time when Arrowette helped out during the "Young Justice League" storyline (when they collected nearly every young DC hero to storm Zandia to avenge the murder of Empress' father), but it wasn't Cissie, it was her mother.
As for Secret, she was eventually revealed to be a Warder, someone who serves as kind of a gatekeeper between life and death. The Hal Jordan Spectre was her mentor for a bit, but when her father was on death row for killing her brother, Harm, the rest of Young Justice refused to help her free him. This allowed Darkseid to corrupt her and she came back to Earth, trying to suck the whole world's population into the Void. Young Justice talked to her, not as superheroes but just as teenagers, apologizing for not helping her out with her problems earlier or being there for her, and sort of talked her down from the ledge. When she reverted to normal, Darkseid appeared and condemned her to the worst punishment he could imagine: living out the rest of her natural life as a completely normal, unspecial mortal. Fortunately for Greta, that happened to be what she wanted most in the world, so it was a happy ending for everyone.
Except Slo-bo, who Darkseid turned into a self-aware statue and sent into the 853rd century.

Wasn't it obvious what he died from?
No, there was somewhat of a surprise. His femoral artery wasn't torn in any way. He was just leaking from where the stent was put in... really slowly. But nobody checked the guy's CBCs from when he came in, or kept monitoring his hemoglobin levels to realize he was slowly bleeding into his lowest peritoneal cavity. Somewhere in the 12-16 hours before he coded and died, they should've checked it. They were trying to wait until morning draws the next day. The blood that they found in the cavity was already all clotted, indicating it'd been getting in there slowly.
Really, for all the work I did, they was nothing more I could've done to save the guy. His doctors take the brunt of that for not monitoring him closely enough. Especially because you'd expect the guy to bleed. They had him loaded full of heparin, and on drugs that were destroying his platelets (the cells that are key in the clotting process). He was practically a hemophiliac, from the way they medicated him.
I still need to chill in my yard with tea today while I read comics to decompress.

Would it be unfair of me to say that the doctors handling that patient sound a tad clueless?

Where's House when you need him?! Bloodthinners probably only sped up the process i suppose?

I don't think it'd be unfair, no. Our chief pathologist was at the autopsy, and is following up on this with a lot of heat. She wants to know why the hell they sent a guy to another hospital where they put a stent in his femoral artery, and waited for him to start dying before checking to see if they did a good job, or if he was bleeding internally at any point. Common sense would've been to draw blood out of his IV line once every four to six hours to monitor it. We're a teaching hospital. These interns just learned something.
Sadly, it was the hard way, and it was some guy's life that taught them. I f***ing hate the medical field sometimes.

Sorta. They made sure he couldn't clot. So, he had a slow, tiny hole in his artery that never tore. It just slowly bled, and could never mend because of it.

Yeah. A painter friend of mine had a gallery opening last night, so we went out and got tanked like there was no tomorrow. He ended up taking home a girl that was about as smart as a bag of grass clippings and I became even more convinced that the cute bartender at the place we drink at isn't just being nice to me because I tip well.

Got my comics, my thoughts:
X-Men #205: Great. I love this crossover. The fight was cool and the ending was even better. Cover to next weeks issue reminded me of another cover I saw during HoM.
X-Men First Class #6: It's like Marvel sent out a memo to folks saying that during the next couple of months we are going to reinvigorate Cyclops. He will be a badass once again. Awesome issue, can't wait for the 2nd part.
Sensational Spider-Man #41: OMD part 3 was alright. The ending that leaked is looking pretty much on target.
Cable and Deadpool #47: Lot of fun...although it really feels like this plot was thrown together. I'd love to read Fabian's "what-mighta-been's" with this book.
Halo Uprising #2: Not bad. Pretty art, fun to see the Halo world in a different light...more Master Chief would be good.
