I don't think DC takes any unsolicited submissions for writing or art anymore.

No. Neither DC nor Marvel accept unsolicited submissions. Your only chance to show them your work without them asking to see it is at an open call at a con.

Guidelines:

At Marvel we are actively looking for new creative talent ... and the next Marvel superstar just might be you! Breaking into comics is tough, but Marvel is offering aspiring creators a way to increase their chances. Keep reading to find out how!

Marvel appreciates and understands the amount of work you've put into your submission; however, please understand that due to the volume of submissions we get, we can't guarantee a response. If we’re interested in your work, we'll contact you.

Before submitting any material, download the Marvel Idea Submission Form (MISF). PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY. This form outlines the relationship between you and Marvel Entertainment, Inc. ("Marvel") concerning your submission. By signing this document, you are acknowledging that Marvel continually generates new comic book ideas in-house, as well as from outside sources, and that Marvel has no liability for similarities between your submission and possible future Marvel products or properties.

Marvel accepts the MISF as an attachment in an email or by mail. Please note that Marvel policy prohibits review of any submission unless it is accompanied by a completed MISF. For legal purposes, submissions unaccompanied by a MISF will be discarded without review. Marvel will not respond to any submissions sent without a MISF.

All submissions must include an email address or a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE). No response will be sent without either an email contact or a SASE. Due to the amount of submissions we receive, we cannot give specific feedback on any rejected work. For legal purposes, Marvel must destroy all submissions after review, so please do not send original materials. Only submit high quality scans or photocopies.

Writers:

Please send us an inquiry letter, detailing your writing experience and why you would like to write for Marvel. Based on your inquiry, we may ask you to submit a sample of your work. If so, submit the sample with a Marvel Idea Submission Form (MISF) and clearly mark the sample with the heading “Solicited Writing Sample” and your name. Unsolicited writing samples will not be read. Any unsolicited writing sample received will be destroyed unread. Any solicited writing sample received without a signed MISF will be destroyed unread.

Artists:

If you have a website with your work on display, please send us a link to your website using our Marvel Art Submissions email address (see below).

Alternatively, please submit no more than 5 pages of sample artwork. Marvel loves the environment, so we would prefer you save a tree and send us high quality scans through email! These 5 scans should be no larger than 200-400k per image.

If you must submit by mail, send clean 8 1/2"x11" photocopies of your sample pages -NOT originals. Artwork can be difficult to copy, so please make sure the reproduction quality is high. For Pencilers: Just send pencils. Do not send inked, colored or lettered pages. For layouts and pencils, we are looking to see some of the following:
3 or 4 pages of sequential action
2 or 3 pages of character-driven storytelling
1 page of cover art or iconic character poses
These can be of a solo character, but if you are feeling ambitious, go ahead and try your hand at team compositions!

For Inkers: Don't send samples inked over your own pencils. Any flaws in the underlying pencils will influence our opinion of your inking. Send copies of the original pencils along with your inks so we can see what you started with. Choose samples done over several different pencilers so we can determine how you handle a variety of styles.

For Colorists: Don't send samples colored over your own line art. Any flaws in the underlying black and white artwork will influence our opinion of your coloring.

For Cover Painters: Marvel covers range from iconic character shots to story moments, so show us your flexibility! Regardless of what subject you choose, cover samples should be dynamic and display a command of design elements. Keep the compositions simple but strong.

Artists and Illustrators, send your sample to: Marvel_Art_Submissions@marvel.com
