So you may or may not know that Leanna wrote a Wonder Woman review that Gail loved and got some attention. Her mom was worried about Lee getting involved with myspace creepies, so I decided that it'd be even better to give her her own blog. So here it is (http://leannareviews.blogspot.com). I hope you guys enjoy.

The only suckish thing about school is when you have to go to a new school. You have to get to know new people, new teachers, and you don't know how does that school go. It's just like reviewing a new comic book that you've never read before. You don't know nothing about the series or anything about the character. She has a remarkable handle on the concept of analogy.

And she has good taste in books! You've raised her well.

My favorites are Captain Marvel, All Star Superman, Wonder Woman, Betty and Veronica, and the Simpsons. Oooo I almost forgot Mouse Guard.

You are the best father in the history of human civilisation.

I love her use of 'Hello' with the McFly-tone.

U teach good, Joe.

I've only had a few years . . .her mom's done most of it. (Well, not the comics.)

HUMAN BEING PERIOD.

You do know that she's not your actual daughter, right?

At a certain point, this gets weird.

I was thrown by the "daughter" bit.

Alex, when you have time, please knock some sense into your idiot friend. Thank you.

Is her mum hot?

Is Joe just trying to get points for banging the mum by calling the kid his daughter?

And how the heck is a ten year old into Weezer? I didn't even know there was music outside of my mum's Neil Diamond albums until I was in high school!

Ya hang around a middle age dude as a kid , you sorta like their music I suppose. My dad played Elvis all the time so its no shock I became a fan at a young age.

"Daughter" or "fake daughter" is a lot easier to type than "former student whose mom is one of my best friends and whose dad isn't around much so mom asked me to be a surrogate father figure so she calls me 'fake dad.'"

And "middle aged" Super? REALLY?!?

Oh, I forgot the quotes in the post title here. At another board I remembered them. Brian, any chance you could put quotes around daughter for me so Alex and Wesley don't have a hissy?

Kid Omega

I'm not having a hissy. It's just a weird thing to say.

Some of the dads on this board can probably explain better than I the wide gulf between being a "father" and being a "part-time surrogate father-figure".

The review warmed my heart Joe. It's great to see kids enthused about reading.

For whatever it's worth, I don't think anyone was having a hissy. It's just that you've probably grown so accustomed to using the term you probably don't realize it sounds kind of odd to those of us outside of the relationship.

Point taken. Mods, please either delete or change to "former student" if possible. Thanks!

Of all of Joe's quirks, I find that the least quirky.

I think it's awesome that Joe cares as much about this child to WANT to call himself anything to her in anyway related to "fatherly". Part time.....surrogate....doesn't change his heart and the pride he's shown in this young lady. I don't know the full extent of his relationship or time and so forth, but the little I have seen I think he's behaved VERY fatherly. So as a Dad I gots no problem with it. Just my two cents.

Nobody is saying what Joe is doing isn't awesome. To be clear. I admire it, and more of us should be mentoring kids in the same way. Joe's involvement is a great example to me personally.

The titles Of "Dad" and "daughter" are a little different given the context of the relationship to outsiders. Dad's provide and protect and assume a level of intimacy and responsibility that makes the title more rare than, say "Uncle."

I think Joe gets that based on his response . .

I was hoping to read a blog about a young girl from Kentucky trying to track down her deadbeat Dad, who was last seen boarding a Greyhound bound for Brooklyn.

Plus, she'd talk about pre-Code crime comics.

That would be an awesome blog.

Keep her writing Joe.

Writing has done amazing things for both my daughter's reading interest as well as reading ability.

Oh, and the kids these days are crazy about Naruto. Both my kids love it. I can't vouch for it, but that might be another manga/comic title your "daughter" would be interested in.

True, its is shonen manga (intended for boys).

But its had cross-gender appeal on both sides of the Pacific. And the anime is shown on cartoon network and is very popular.

But I'm probably not telling my Sensei comic master, Joe, anything he doesn't already know. ;)

What little Naruto I have seen looked like Peanuts mixed with DragonBall, except nowhere near as awesome as that description would imply.

Well, maybe Sakura appeals to girls, I don't know.

Wait, come to think of it, Naruto does turn into a girl a lot. There's that.

To answer the question, it's someone he's serving as a male role model for. He's showing her how a good person and a good man acts. Something more people should do. A wider range of role models is always better.
