It is divided into two stories. The first one involves Starfire, Animal Man, and Adam Strange. It seems like a follow up to their encounter with Lady Styx from 52. The second story involves Forerunner and so far has her running around the multiverse.

Oh, and Animal Man has a crush on Starfire now and it's destroying his marriage. I really hate that part of the story.

i like the countdown to adventure story, far more than any of the other countdown series up to and including the maincountdown series.

but then i really like Adam Strange and Animal Man, so I'm probably a bit biased.

I really dislike Lord Havok and think it's a rather unfortunate throwback to the 90s.

Actually, this mini has been horrid... Flipped thru #7 yesteday.

Beechen's writing reminds me of Jay Färber's and Ben Raab's. It's fan-ficish at best. No intriguing ideas, just soap opera elements and clichés.

I'm in agreement with the previous poster.

I dont like the animal man\starfire thing.

its like DC cannot allow one single good marriage to stand.
after all buddy went through in 52, and then how he showed up when his wife was just about to be hit on by this guy after he had been away for so long, for him to then act this way is just....not right. not buddy.

but I have liked adam strange, although the forrunner story doesnt really do anything for me. I just dont care for the character at all.

give adam strange a book and I will buy it though!

i do feel like all these minis were a waste of money. i went into them thinking they would tie into countdown or FC but no. just trying to cash in on the 52 hype.

I've done a full 180-degree shift on Adventure - I went in thinking "Yay, more 52 Space Crew! But why did that have to lump this Forerunner thing in here?" and now I'm... I don't hate the Space Crew story, but it's just been going so slowly that I'm tired of it, even now that it's finally moving. Mind you they were never my favourite part of 52, but I was hopeful when I saw Lady Styx would be involved somehow - but she's been effectively a no-show.

And on the other side of the book, I Heart Forerunner like you wouldn't believe - I was petrified when I saw she was turning up in Countdown again, because I worried that'd wrap up her story somehow, but thankfully she's back on her ship of misfits, and I could honestly read an ongoing series about them for years. It's like DC's Farscape, a misanthropic bunch of criminals and exiles and nomads with differing agendas all stuck on a ship together, muddling their way through a mostly-hostile galaxy. (You may gather I liked Farscape quite a bit.)

I like the mini myself. It really is a more Adam Stange centered story, and it looks like it will be setting things up nicely for the new Holy War mini coming soon.

I started out enjoying the Animal Man/Adam Strange story more than the Forerunner story, but as time went on, I've actually begun enjoying Forerunner's half of the book even more. Ignoring all of the badly forced Buddy/Kory/Ellen crap, the pacing for their half of the story was just bad. The action? Fun every month, but the story itself has been dragging. Meanwhile, Forerunner quickly got away from Countdown and started writing her own story with space pirates and gladiator battles and male subjugation and didn't hit a snag until last week when she ran into another Monitor. Otherwise, though, it's been a fun book.

Overall, though, I'm still enjoying Countdown to Mystery a lot more.

I almost dropped this book out of frustration in the main story. After issue 4 I was like, "I'm done", but then I flipped through it the other day and ran back and picked up the previous issue I missed to and continued on. Thank god for Forerunner. That alone makes it worth it. If it wasn't for the art on the Adam/Kory/Buddy story, that story would be a complete waste.

So... did anybody like the final issue?

And by the way: The Healers are supposed to be such an advanced race, and they have been dealing with the Styx virus for who knows how long and could not come up with a cure that simple themselves? Meh!

Not at all. Everything turned out all peachy keen, and I didn't really care for that happy ending with the "FINAL CRISIS" looming and everything. The Forerunner could have been a decent bounty hunter like Lobo or something, but no, she is at peace on her planet, raising the new offspring of her race. It was just too nice of an ending, that's all.

Yeah, what, sunlight's the cure? I guess that's why they're gonna be focusing on the religious implications of Styx and her followers in Holy War instead of the virus.

Yeah, pretty lackluster ending. Especially on the Forerunner story. Unless someone wants to come along in the future and pick up the ball on her again. I was really looking forward to having a badass chick space pirate character in the DCU.

The Forerunner could have been a decent bounty hunter like Lobo or something, but no, she is at peace on her planet, raising the new offspring of her race. It was just too nice of an ending, that's all.My immediate reaction was like the above, but after I gave it a bit more thought, I liked it. Both finales seemed kinda sudden when it came down to it, but overall I liked 'em. Endings turn out so mixed in comics today, that even when the hero wins, he usually loses, too. So in that regard, it was refreshing to see a couple of straight-up, happy endings. Minus the Lady Styx precursor to Holy War, of course.

With that said, I still hold a minor gripe with the Forerunner ending: I felt it should have been somewhat more open-ended. I don't mind her getting a planet back with a new "version" of her people to look after. However, I wish they hadn't written off her crew so definitively. I liked that group, and if nothing else, they could've made for an interesting mini in the future. Doesn't seem likely to happen now, though.

On another note, I thought the guy Forerunner and co. found in cryo (Tommy Tomorrow?) would wind up becoming a major plot point in the end, but I guess not.

My guess:

Forerunner's been positioned on her "paradise planet," along with the guy in the cyro tube for Morrison to use in Final Crisis. Given Morrison's sensibilities, I'm gonna say that the guy in the tube is Prez Rickard.
