When selecting the team members, what qualities did you look for? It's interesting that none of these characters have been on a team together previously.
YOST: One of the great things about the crossover was that members from the different groups were being thrown together. The team serves a very specific purpose in the crossover: find the baby. But as the story progresses, their purpose becomes more lethal: find the baby, no matter what.
Claw Squad, Lupine Avengers - we've heard it all, but the four characters really do have very different personalities, and those differences will come out more and more in the series. And...those four characters are not the final roster of the team.
I just wanna go on record saying that I coined that phrase WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY before X-Force. But I'm honored it was mentioned.
I shoulda freaking tried to copyright or trademarked or pattened that name...damnit.

I laughed out loud when I saw that!
Okay, one last question. I've gotten a ton of e-mail from readers asking why there was no "New X-Men" in Marvel's February solicits. Can you comment on this? Maybe X-editor Nick Lowe can help you out!
NICK LOWE: There's certainly a reason why "New X-Men" wasn't solicited in February. There are casualties to "Messiah CompleX." Keep reading to find out what those causalities are. Also, and I'm just going to throw this out there, just because you read or see something in solicits, doesn't mean it's 100% what's going to print.
Oh my.
It could be that the title continues but anything printed in a solicit would have too many spoilers.

Yeah, I guess my Team Scratch & Sniff didn't catch on as well. This round to you, Brian.
I'm digging Bachalo's Sinister. I'm liking the fight, it's honestly smart the way they're fighting the Marauders. Although, shouldn't Exodus be able to teleport right back?

I dunno it still doesn't make sense. The title should still be solicited for shops and what not who will be ordering though right? Unless the book is on hiatus for the summer or something. I hope to God it isn't relaunched yet again.
Either way whenever solicits are far too spoiler heavy, Marvel usually just puts a "classified" straight across and blacks out the covers.

Just wait until I get to review the issue...I'll use Lupine Avengers so many times Marvel will have to change the name.
Maybe he does...we only see a little.

Whatever the plan was, it certainly gave Sinister pause.

YOST: I think it was a genuine thing. They could die at any moment. Why not? And I'd like to see them hook up in every Marvel book. Just somewhere in the background, like Spider-Man swings by and there they are.

I'd give anything to have Bachelo draw New X-Men his work is just breathtaking.
And Julian's still alive! ....for now.
As I expected they dodged the solicit question. And I'm more certain than ever that it's not over. It might be changing somehow but there'll still be a book about the kids.
YOST: No bones about it, Surge is making a mistake. She's a teenager. But this mistake will change her and her team forever.
KYLE: They're teenagers and they're acting like teenagers. You also have to remember the last time they didn't listen to the X-Men they defeated Nimrod and saved Forge's life. Unfortunately, you don't always win when you take these kinds of emotional risks. Although, I'm with Surge on this one.
I was a little surprised that Kyle says he's with Surge - to me it looked like a classic case of "fools rush in" when she took her team to the Purifiers. I understand why she wants to do it, but I still think it was much too rash.

They are doing a great job of selling me on X-force. When I first saw the team I said there would be no way I would get the book, but every time the talk about it I want it more and more.

I guess it's Emma who is blocking Sinister's telepathy. Still, would've been more badass if it turned out that she was also psi-cloaking Iceman, Monet, Siryn and Kitty.
"As mentioned in our last edition, there was no time to gather questions from our dear readers due to the Thanksgiving holiday in America. However, I did my best to ask those things which I though you would want to know. Also, I was able to sneak in one question that I received in abundance from you folks. And what was that question? Read on to find out...."

Oh, and one thing that I thought it was interesting:
YOST: Wolverine is the team leader. And he's not particularly happy about it, and the dynamic between him and Cyclops (who is very much part of the book) will be fun to play, almost a reversal of their roles.
Scott will get his revenge after 30 years? Finally! This should be fun. :)
The last answer in the interview was very interesting. I wonder if Marvel will have some misleading solicits for the X-books kind of like DC did with Flash.
It would be interesting if the team was transplanted over into Legacy.

I'm really getting interested in X-Force now. I can't wait for the new dynamics with Wolverine and Cyclops, and Wolverine as leader is gonna be so aeesome. I'm curious as to why Wolfsbane leaves X-Factor to join this team in which she doesn't belong.
All this vague hints about New X-Men's future are making me impatient. But I guess if they're not as direct about cancellation as with Cable & Deadpool maybe the book is just going through some changes instead.
I heart Bachala drawing the kids. Laura standing up for Julian was neat.

KYLE: This series' stories are broken up into complex six-issue arcs that will build to a much large saga over the next couple of years. Everything that happens in this run happens for a reason. Also, many events and characters that affected our previous series will follow our heroes into this new journey…none of which makes their lives any better.
This stuck out most. Even if we do get some sort of New New X-men title it looks like Yost and Kyle may not be a part of it.

Urk.
That was a very good X-Force sell, considering the flimsy concept I've been shown so far. I wanna see Wolverine struggle. It might actually turn him into a half-decent character again. I am so glad that they know that Wolfsbane doesn't belong on the team, and that just makes me want her to stay on it now.
X-Men 205 looks hot, though I'm not sure I'm quite buying Storm's overly technical dialogue mid-fight. Angel vs. Sinister / Wolverine vs. Gambit, and everything there featuring Emma, looks sexy, though.
So who besides me is now just about convinced David is on the road to hell?
podmark had it down, I'm impressed.

Yeah I saw that. Plus:
"I like to think the uniforms showed they were united and committed to the X-Men, no matter what. After all, they'd lost so much, this is them taking control of their destinies."
That past tense, for me, seems very fatalistic. "Disassembled" indeed.
Well it seems that Elixir is surviving the crossover, too (LOL... Loa and Elixir need their own Manga miniseries). Damnit, I have a very small collection of mutants I didn't mind getting Reaver-pasted, and all of them seem to be coming out of this.

Yes!!! I loved the Lupine Avengers mention, even if you were trying to screw with me when you came up with it.
Other than that, this was obviously my favorite part of the interview:
Can you say who is leading X-Force yet? Wolverine has been a field leader before, but typically he has never been the one to lead a team. Is he the de facto leader? Or is he taking his marching orders from someone else?
YOST: Wolverine is the team leader. And he's not particularly happy about it, and the dynamic between him and Cyclops (who is very much part of the book) will be fun to play, almost a reversal of their roles.
KYLE: Well, Chris blew my surprise but yeah, it's Logan. He's great for this role because he doesn't want it, at least not in the way it's given to him. Forcing Wolverine to lead such a conflicted group of X-Men puts him in situations he's spent most of his life avoiding. I think people will like how Logan handles his new role and how the team handles him in return.

Of course we did. I actually thought it was pretty funny. You had me going on and on about how the whole Lupine concept wasn't all that bad, and I even came up with some ways that a decent writer might be able to make sense of some of it (e.g., canines and felines sharing a common ancestor and whatnot). It took me awhile to realize that you were just encouraging my lunatic postings for your own amusement, you S.O.B.;)
On another note, Marvel's still being pretty sparse with the Cable details. I guess we'll have to wait until he actually shows up in this crossover before they'll start talking about him and his role post-Messiah Complex, huh?

I see J. Scott Campbell seems to hold the Pam Anderson vibe for Emma's looks high. And whats up with Pixie's d-cup?
Like the preview, though. And yeah, as I've been saying all along, maybe they aren't soliciting New X-Men for February so they don't give ANYTHING away. I don't think it's cancelled.
If it is cancelled, I'm sure all that 'growing up' Yost and Kyle keep referring to probably means most of the kids will find homes with the big league X-Men.
... Or they'll just all die.

Archangel gets hurt pretty bad by Scrambler and Colossus gets his mind wiped by Sinister. Wolverine catches up with a fleeing Gambit who doesn't join the fight. After Logan guts the backstabbing cajun, he tells logan who has the baby. Storm produces a whirlwind and carries everyone to safety.

He seemed to be acting like Angel was an idiot for thinking that he had the baby. plus he didn't act like he knew who had the kid in #204 and #203 when he was going after the diaries and probing Rogues head

Claw Squad, Lupine Avengers - we've heard it all, but the four characters really do have very different personalities, and those differences will come out more and more in the series. And...those four characters are not the final roster of the team.
Omg why has no one mentioned this!!
Now I'm even more excited knowing for a fact there will be more to the team!!

Beacuse it's been mentioned before but folks just feel like complaining and ignore the stuff that doesn't support their arguement...sorry arguement suggests there was rational thought...their bitchfest.

Kicks their asses is stretching it, morelike holds his own. They don't get bruised at all in the battle.

so was i pretty accurate. I just flipped through it.
I got a question did it show Cable with the kid, or a flashback of him taking the kid in Alaska. I've been racking my brain over this detail.

Well, it's not like it was a fair fight. At one point, he's fighting 5 of them at the same time. I think in general though, most artists don't show bruising on characters in a serious battle unless it fits the dialogue of the scene. I mean, at the end of X-Men 203, Cannonball is sitting in the X-jet after having been beaten and blasting through several walls, and he looks unbruised, but in 204, he's all f*cked up from that battle.

I'm inclined to think there will be a New X-Men relaunch. There ought to be something unless Marvel is planning on replacing my subscription with X-Force.

Thae fact that the final X Force line up isn't revealed could suugest that some of the New X Men kids end up in this title.
After all, the original New Mutants changed into X Force, so it could happen again.
Either way, I'm fully expecting most of these characters to still be around, minus maybe a few casualties.

it still sounds like nxm is ending to me.
x-force is sounding better. i like wolverine leading the team.
bachalo's preview art looks nice.
I really hope the kids get slaughtered. like 6 or 7 will remain. And Frost will once agian realize that she SUCKS AT RAISING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MUTANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Stupid slut. Die frost! Die!!!
Sorry.........
Anyway, I am looking foward to X-Force and I am very EXCITED about the next issue of Messiah Complex!

With New X-men getting canceled and the remaining kids being most likely devided between the titles i beginn to see black for Marrow joining X-factor or another team in the near future.
I am not a negativ thinking type of person but i'm quite a realistic thinking one. Each of the still alive kids has cooler powers and a better (or cleaner) backround than her. With that its pretty clear that each of the kids will be prefered over my beloved bone thrower anytime.
Well at least i am happy for the New X-men reader that those who survive will most likely not end up in limbo (or at least totaly).

So no New X-Men listed in the Feb solicits, but what do we find instead:
X-MEN: LEGACY #208
Written by MIKE CAREY
Penciled by SCOT EATON
Cover by DAVID FINCH
"LEGACY"
CLASSIFIED UNTIL THE END OF MESSIAH COMPLEX.
32 PGS./Rated A…$2.99
w/ a cover preview by David Finch featuring the original X-Men: http://media.comics.ign.com/articles/836/836737/img_5079272.html
You ask me, you couple this title change (the addition of "Legacy to the title would seem perfect for a book about young mutants following in the footsteps of their elders) and the disappearance of the New X-Men from the solicits, and then you consider that rumors have been running rampant about the cancellation of the adjectiveless X-Men title for a while now. The clincher is Nick Lowe's comment: "There's certainly a reason why "New X-Men" wasn't solicited in February. Also, and I'm just going to throw this out there, just because you read or see something in solicits, doesn't mean it's 100% what's going to print."
So, maybe Marvel had Finch do up a fake cover to throw us off? This has been done before. Certainly, X-Men: Legacy won't feature the original team as we already have X-Men: First Class around. The only thing that would suck would be that, if the creators listed in the solicits are true, it would seem Carey is the new writer of the New X-Men cast, and Kyle & Yost have moved to X-Force. Anyhow, that's my theory.

These are my thoughts:
"Legacy" is being thrown into the equation meaning that something that is being passed down or continued. I think that Xavier is going to "bite the dust" and the remaining original members (Cyke, Beast, Iceman and Angel....there was a reason why they brought him back, as well as Emma Frost who will take the place of the absent Jean) are going to take over and maintain what Xavier started. The (remaining) New X-Men will either leave or be a part of this Legacy group.
For Uncanny X-Men, all members who do not make up the Legacy group, Astonishing X-Men or X-Force will be "dumped" into this Uncanny group (X-Factor will get 2 new members but I do not forsee those 2 individuals as being major X-players). This is not necessarily a bad thing as you'll have a number of good players such as Storm, Nightcrawler, Rogue, (Gambit and Northstar???), and perhaps the return of Havok, Polaris an Marvel Girl.
That's just my thought...there are also a hell lotta characters sitting in limbo right now who they should use so who knows?
I think that Xavier is going to "bite the dust"
I can't really see them giving xavier his legs back, repowering him, returning him to earth and having him shown to be kinda useless to the team he raised just to kill him off. It would be the most pathetic and pointless moment in time to kill him.

I really loved that idea of the original X-Men taking over the school and keeping Xavier's dream alive.
Except they banished him from the place.

That's a good one. If only 5 new X-Men survived to mirror the original class I would have...
Mercury in place of Iceman
Anole in place of Beast
Elixir in place of Angel
Hellion in place of Cyclops
and either Surge or Pixie.

I would think that Mercury moreso mirrors the protective/pseudo-maternal personality of Jean, and Rockslide is very similar to Iceman in that he can exist as psionic energy and is a jokester/prankster like Bobby was at his age.

Hell yeah. Bobby and Rogue are accounted for. Now I just need a confirmation for Sam and Warren, and I'm set.
