I'm just wondering, how has this organization managed to grow so large and strong? With the recent Marvel universe circus about necessary government control/facist pigs on a power trip(depending on your viewpoint), you'd figure an organization like this is precisely one of those things Tony would want to stamp out. And please don't tell me he doesn't know about the purifiers. I don't like Stark, but saying he isn't aware of them is an insult to his intelligence.

And Stark can't be everywhere. He's got Red Skull/Skrulls/New Avengers/Hulk to deal with. Besides, the Purifiers had knowledge of the future through Nimrod. They might know about what the government's gonna do, before they do it. Or, they might have someone sympathetic in the system covering for them.
