Hello I have been writing and drawing a personal project for about 3 years now I have enough material to publish, but some of the project is based on an 80's movie.

My questions are as follows can I be sued for using some of their characters? Also how can I change it just a little so I don't get sued the property so far has gained me some interest at my local comics shop but I would like to get it out there so more people can see it. What is strictly off limits when using a liscesed property does anyone know exactly or do I need to ask this question in a different forum?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sonny

I'd imagine that, yes, you could be sued for using someone else's characters for profity without permission/licensing. I'm pretty sure there are some cases, like when it's a clear parody, where you can get away with it. Similarly if it's just something you're doing as a personal project, like fan-fic, then you probably don't have to worry.

Then again I'm no lawyer and am purely speculating. You might get more knowledgable response on the Community Forum.

You should be fine, unless you're making money from it without permission.
