the name of the game is attitude adjustments. everyone has a character they deem to be "out-of-character." so, if it were up to you, how would character-x be portrayed? what would their personality/demeanor be like. as always, have fun...

Emma Frost!
She'd be less OLDER, SAGER I'M SCOTT's RIGHT HAND GUYS and more of her initial Grant Morrison self. Younger, hilarious, catty, almost immature in her ways.
I'd say its too late for an in character adjustment now, but if this was post Here Comes Tomorrow, she'd still be a teacher. Jean and Cyclops would be running the school, or someone else but not them both. Yeah, we've gotten a lot of good stories out of it (most notably Astonishing) but if she was her former self I'd keep her that way.
A crazy ass teacher who's just too hilarious for herself. Loved it. Miss it.

ROGUE
i realize that growth is the word of the day but there will always be a soft spot in my heart for early-mississippi-swamp-billy-Rogue from her debut. i miss there being a real tomboy character on the team. and i don't care if she gains control over her powers, as long as she's not overpowered (i.e. she should still have to steal them). i just miss that claremont-era character who could give Gambit a run for his money in the flirt department; the Rogue who wasn't too much of a lady to grab a villain and give him mouth-to-mouth.
EMMA FROST
i thinks he's actually regressed characterization-wise and i don't like it. i think she was on-point as the mysterious mastermind character in those early days of the New Mutants series. she wasn't evil per-say but always in control of her environment/wielding a ton of influence. as for her lighter side, i think Generation X had her down perfectly. she wasn't a White Queen-level bad@$$ but she also wasn't some vain prima donna. this version of Emma was more mature and retained some of her control freak ways. i think she should be more adult (i blame Cyclops for neutering her).

lol! we came it from completely different directions. i just saw it as being a bad step backwards for Emma. if they need a younger hipper cattier version, i think Northstar was born to play that role. he'd be hotter than her (as a teacher), as well; just looks better in cardigans.

Yeah, I'd say out of character is young, immature Emma. In character is cold, calculating, bitchy and older than the rest of the X-Men (except Banshee and Xavier). That is in character cause it fits most of her history (except Morrison New X-Men).

Shortpack
well, first and foremost, i want to make him entertaining enough that all you need is a one page guest-appearance to remember him. he'd be a guru-like character; appearing in the unlikeliest of places and giving advice to whichever mutant needed it. as such, he's need to have excellent taste in music, clothing, comics, cuisine, and everything else needed to be someone's unofficial life coach. i'd also establish that Shortpack has made friends (human & mutant) from all walks of life/from all over. he doesn't have much going for him physically, so i think he needs a very engaging personality. and, as a spy, he should always have details about a character's problem(s) that he shouldn't. but, like i said, he should be strictly limited to such guest-appearances.

Noriko Ashida:
Calms down and either gives leadership over to Prodigy and Hellion, or proves that she is an adequate leader. I don't mind some fire to her character but she's going overboard and on a seemingly endless tirade

so you just want her to lighten up/return to normal? what's happening now (i'm guessing) is that she's reacting to stress. but i could be wrong.

Emma Frost didn't have a "character" in the 80's, she was just an one-dimensional generic evil rich bitch type, poor man's Selene. Some think she should go back to be the "strong" (which she is already) and absolutely mature and completely independent and emotionally adjusted, etc? Meh, you have every Claremontian female for that: Storm, Jean Grey, Psylocke, Sage, Moira McTaggert, etc, is good to see that one Marvel female is allowed to be an actual character with deep insecurities and complexes like Daredevil, Cyclops, Hulk, Henry Pym, Tony Stark, Spider-Man, etc, instead of a feminist campaign advertisement. Morrison made her by the most interesting female Marvel ever had.
And you just have to get good writers working on her again. While Whedon isn't a bad one, his characterization of her is so-so, he spent too much time on the never ending annoying "is she a traitor/is she not a traitor?" which we all knew how was going to end. Mike Carey and Greg Pak writer her well, and I'm sure Ellis will do a great job.
As for character who needs an attitude change, I gotta go with Colossus. He's just too passive about life, like an artist just watching the nature while paining. While that's understandable, it's not the attitude for someone with the experience he has. He has seen it all, died and was reborn, fought alongside the X-men in the most important moments, etc, he has to be more outspoken. Not a leader, but someone who does something other than Kitty.

Yeah, but she's getting quite annoying and alienating fans.

i think Morrison just made her a dumber snottier version of M. and Emma certainly wasn't one-dimensional in Generation X (imo). she was a vicious businesswoman who also happened to be very protective of her students. she could be vulnerable around Banshee and still psi-beat the hell out of one of the members of Gene Nation. and she certainly wasn't a "super woman" in any of her incarnations; just a shrewd player.
Yeah, but she's getting quite annoying and alienating fans.
they're just setting you guys up for the swerve. eventually, they'll have to explain her personality shift.

I don't think there's much to explain. The change makes sense more or less, it's just something I'm hoping changes soon.

DEADPOOL:
Sure, make him funny, that's fine. But I prefer when he's still got that edge, that vicious funny, where he's making fun of what you had for lunch because he just disemboweld you and it fell out. Silly half the time, but don't make me forget that the guy is one of the foremost physical combatants in the world. (See Wolverine #88 for more details.)

I really don't say "out-of-character" very often, because in reality all I want is for the character not to suck--hard and dry.
When it comes to Sofia, I really can't find her identity even if I step out of the box and try to look at it unbiasedly. I could accept a different take on her if I enjoyed the recreation, but I don't.
If it were up to me though, I would have her be bubbly and eager, but deep down inside a strong girl who doesn't take scrap* and works hard for a little stability and control in her life yet doesn't always play by the rules (which--I guess, flirting with your customers counts).
I really liked your comments about emma as they reflected mine so here goes.
Emma Frost: She should have a more immature mind, she feels rather aged in the astonishing run. Although i really like her bitchy-ness between the other female cast such as kitty, which should definatley stay but not be played on too much. She should also get back to her witty and mysterious ways...thats what made the white queen so interesting. Her body should also be brought up more, as she is ment to be totaly hot or as she says "the best body money can buy" and this to me just isn't as strong as it could be.

He recently beat the Taskmaster into the ground while he (Deadpool) was shackled. He also beat the Rhino while he was shrunk down via Pym particles. All while retaining the madcap-ness. I personally think Deadpool's fine as is.

I see this as exactly how she is written. She is tough, she went with no powers and made a move against teh Zodiac. She is bubbly and eager. She's a waitress for crying out loud who seems happy with living on her own and making things work out. She gives food to the homeless guy and works hard a job that isn't so glamerous. She left the Institute and didn't return home, or did return home and then moved back to the city because home wasn't good for her. We don't know what was there, or if she even decided to go. And I certainly don't thinks he plays by the rules. She isn't trusting of the New Warriors yet and she has her own opinions about Jubilee's actions within the group which she vocalizes. These too me all seem like things Sophia would do. The only new things for her in my opinion are her dropped accent and her unexplained return from Venezula (i think that's where she lives)
