New to Manga. Opinions please.

Ok I am reading Battle Royale at the moment, and am loving it. I am interested in reading Drifting Classroom and MPD Psycho, can anyone give me their opinions on these manga. Whats the characterisation like? 'Cos this is a strong point in Battle Royale. I would be grateful for any opinions.:D

MPD Psycho is kinda weird, but not necessarily in a bad way. It's a murder mystery with weird characters.

I'd also suggest Berserk. While it also has ultra violence, the characters that you meet are fascinating. Though it might take some time to build up the cast. It's hard to remember having read it all and having all of them in your head already.

Maybe cyberpunk manga Battle Angel Alita and Eden might be up your alley too.

I'll second all of those titles as good character pieces as well as being well-drawn.

MPD Psycho is interesting, but I'm not sure about it as a study in characterization... certainly the main character, as an insane detective with multiple, sometimes homicidal personalities, is an interesting premise, but I'm not sure about the supporting cast having much depth aside from bouncing off the lead.

In addition, it's a really gruesome book. So is Berserk, but the latter is much richer (also 32 volumes and growing). The biggest problem I have getting people into Berserk is that the artwork in the first 3-4 volumes isn't as strong as it becomes later on.

Battle Angel Alita is awesome from one end to the other. :D

I've read the first couple and it's pretty interesting survival horror / disaster / Lord of the Flies kinda stuff.
