In this thread we do movie remakes the way ...we'd wanna see them. Done our way with actors and direction. We'd basically name a movie and remake the way we'd plan. So I'll start us. The movie I'd pick to remake is one rumored for a remake for years and years. But no ones done it..yet.
The Searchers
The classic western from John Wayne. In this remake I'd cut it to where our hero Ethan Edwards is coming home from the Civil War. He's saddened by the loss of the Confedercy but with his brother and family he seeks to rebuild his life.
Of course we get to the horrible tragedy as Ethan burries his sister-in-law , nephew and brother. He pledges vengence on the Comanche who took his nieces. Along the way as the years pass his physical and mental condition becomes questionable.
What I'd do different:
In Wayne's version his character never really ages. And his anger at the indians is suddenly ended . I'd make the lead character physically age as the stress of the 8-10 year hunt takes its toll on him. I'd also cut some excess from the Wayne version like the Wedding fight and the ending with the Texas Rangers helping.
The main bad guy Scar would have a showdown with Ethan at the end. Where Ethan's hunt finally leads him to the man who massacred his family , who made him hunt all those years. And now holds his niece.
The Cast :
Ethan Edwards: George Clooney:
Clooney could play a man in pain . His role in Syriana showed he will play a character who will let himself go. So in this Clooney could let his physical appearance go .
Martin Pawley : Josh Harnett
Harnett can be that young guy who questions the older one and his leadership. During the hunt Harnett's character starts to wonder...is it worth it ? You would see him break down realizing his girl could be marrying someone else as this "hunt" leads him from her.
Laurie Jorgensen: Natalie Portman
Portman to me can play that girl next door type. In this she would be the girl pushed to her limits as the years of this search takes its toll on her and the love she has for Martin.
The rest can be cast over time..... but these are the 3 I'd start with 1st....
