Spoilers from #9 Previews below.
What's this with the Nova force being a finite power source? I know Rich only had 17%, but didn't all the Nova's (including Rich) have a tiny amount of the force? The answer is yes. So Rich should never run out, otherwise, he would have run out years ago.
But I'm not going to hate on DnA, they write great stuff. It will suit the story and add the drama they are shooting for. And Alves - is he staying or leaving after the 3 issue arc?

I think you're conflating two separate aspects of the situation (to be fair, the article does to an extent as well, but you carry it further):
1) Rich is EXHAUSTED. Both he and the WM are constantly holding back the effects of the virus using ~82.9% of the Nova Force, and it's taking its' toll (remember WM snapping at Rich near the end of #7?). And, on top of that, we're still only a week or so down the line from #1, where he was burning out from the stress even before the trip home from hell and getting Selected. He doesn't have a lot of reserves left.
2) With only 17% of the force available to him (and, yeah, that's a lot more than he traditionally had - but, then, the general rule was that the Nova Corps only turned up when they got massacred, yes?), there's an upper limit to what he can take on and beat in a straight fight, in the same way he held off a hundred Kree Sentries in #4, but had to scoot before even one turned up in #7. And, if he then proceeds to go over the 17% limit in a heavy fight, Ultron's boys are waiting to welcome him back...

It'd be funny if we find out that as a Telepath Cosmo is equal to Emma Frost or Xavior.
I wonder if Gamora and Drax will show up in this issue

Well I figured this dog would have a good "trick" to share with us all besides being able to read minds. It seems Cosmo can pack quite a wallop with those telepathic mind blasts; handy for a Human Rocket whose gotta watch his every step with his reduced power capacity...though I did note that one poster mentioned whether the Nova Force is "finate" or "infinate". Until someone can come up with the defining answer to that big mystery which is a constant talking point amoung the Nova elite...guess its open to scrunity. Mayne DNA have a idea or two in the upcoming Nova Annual in February. Daz.

He better not either: I just made him Best New Character in 2007 remember! But then again I was going to give Ko-Rel the same accolade but look what happened to her! Daz.

I think he would be cool as a permanent (or at least recurring) member of Nova's as-yet tiny cast of characters. Nova the Human Rocket and his canine companion, Cosmo!

I'd like that myself but it seems this book can't keep any supporting characters (or any new Nova Corps members for that matter).

I have a feeling Cosmo is going to end up being the villain behind this whole storyline. I mean, if this is a space horror story, then it stands to reason that the one being who isn't a zombie is the guy behind it. Just saying.
Peace.

In most stories the Butler is the usual culprit; but it would be unique if the pet dog DID it. But I think Cosmo is, on the whole, a trust worthy ally, unless the Worldmind got the wrong impression..after all it does say Cosmo has a good nature....unless Cosmo is playing mind-games...

If he is the bad guy . . . that would still be awesome. Just not as wonderful as being a supporting cast member. When the Nova Corps reform . . . I hope Cosmo is one of the first new members!:)

Seems estimates show Nova's sales have taken a pretty bad down turn as of October. One site says sales are now at 34000. It is a shame to see it falter so much perhaps sales will go back up once all this WWH stuff stops.

Doug at Nova Prime records all the sales of each issue as/when they come out: the current breakdown is as follows:
04/07 Nova #1 - 42,917 (+21.9%)
05/07 Nova #2 - 44,532 ( +3.8%)
06/07 Nova #3 - 45,004 ( +1.1%)
07/07 Nova #4 - 40,173 (-10.7%)
08/07 Nova #5 - 39,543 ( -1.6%)
09/07 Nova #6 - 36,978 ( -6.5%)
10/07 Nova #7 - 34,876 ( -5.7%)
For the record I did expect a drop after the initial Inititive tie-in's. But I agree with better pubicity it would do better. So a;; Nova fans give the Rocket a push!

The drop concerns me, but I compare Nova's sales to Ms Marvel's. His sales are similar to hers, and her book has been around for two years. So depending on what the editor and chief wants, Nova could stick around for a while. Again, I think it depends on the editorial push. If DnA are pulled from the title, that would be it. But I don't think that would happen (unless they went to DC on an exclusive contract).

I agree if DNA when/do decide to leave and another writer comes on board who may not have the same "feel" for the chracter as DNA forthrightly do then there could be a few wobbles; However as long as DNA stay and continue to produce thoughful inspiration yet traditional superhero with a sci-fi twst, tales then we should be okay
It also depends on the other side of the coin; who does the art. If Alves is the new regular artist I'd expect to see his credit for Nova 11 in March 2008..but something that did come to mind is why have only a Annual in Feb and not also a regular issue (unless its an obscure Marvel policy that a reg book can't have an Annual at the same time??)? As a guess maybe the annual was added to give as yet the new unnamed penciller time to produce a few issues in advance. Again only Bill Rosemann knows for sure..
But in my book, if Marvel editors like Bill read comments on boards such as CBR, Newsrama and Marvel itself and see the continued positive comments about Nova from readers and reviewers (cause I've yet to see a truly bad review of any DNA Nova issue so far)..we should be okay for the moment. Daz.

The other thing about the annual and no regular issue - same creative team. Quite often, the older annuals had different writers and artists. On this one, DnA and Alves are still participating. With DnA also doing Conquest, they may not have had time to do two Nova tales. As is, we are fortunate enough to get more pages.

Which is a good thing cause we get a sense of uniformity and continuity with Nova's current storylines and development. Any am I gonna argue having more Nova pages? No way! By the way its quiet at Nova Prime! Haven't seen a new post for a few days! Darren.
