i absolutely loved it the story took an amazing turn when at the end

spoiler ahead

he asked batman to choose which body he took over damians or tims..

this story just took a great turn for me .

Only problem was the sappy looks he gave talia when he was cleaning her wound and found the entrance to the place. WTF batman and puppy dog eyes dont go together.

I was skeptical going into this crossover and thought it wouldn't be that great since Ra's was never a favorite of mine, but I must say I am loving it so far and hope it continues to get better.

Terrible issue.

I've only been reading Detective Comics when Dini writes it, so I had no interest in this in the first place, but I gave it a shot, and it's accessible enough.

But despite Dini's best efforts, there are too many cliches and convenient plot points to make this anything more than a mediocre crossover. The art is what drops this issue down in terms of quality though, like a third rate Jim Lee.

I guess I picked the wrong time to start buying Batman books again. I've been out of the loop since before the earthquake in Gotham. The whole Damian thing is foreign to me, but after a bit I'll get up to speed (I have Batman and Son ordered). That being said, I like the ending of this issue, but still don't care for Ra's.

The art was terrible. The art took away from the story big time.

Given that you already had your own built in prejudices towards the storyline/book to begin with, what was the purpose of picking the book in the first place?

I really don't care for art in general.....so......

I thought this issue was a blast to read. Probably one of my faves for this year. Top 10 issue.

Is this arc one of those where I have to pick up issues outside of Detective and Batman? I think I understood what happened from this issue after staying away from the Robin and Nightwing issues.

The art really was quite bad, to the point where I wasn't sure what was going on in some scenes.

The spread on pages 2 and 3 was particularly bad. Apparently Damien's big escape attempt is to run down a hallway. And the reason Tim just watches him run down the hallway instead of running after him is...I don't know. There didn't seem to be one.

this storyline had better get good real soon. It has been a huge letdown in my eyes

I thought part 2 made Nightwing look respectable again, talking story not art.

Why the hell does Ras not have the bandages anymore???? He seems like he is getting better not worse? When did Talia give Batman the armor? When (in continuity) did Batman decide he gives a rat's ass about Talia?

It's hard to do a good Ra's story if you aren't Denny O'Neil.

I have all Dini Detective issues on my pull list, and had no idea it was a crossover until I got the comic home.

I just realized, two different DC comics used the "Sophie's Choice" bit this week.

One of them got it out of the way quick and clean, while still managing to hang onto some pathos. The other draws it out as a cliffhanger completely devoid of suspense.

lol I just read both the issues in question tonight and was gonna come on and make a Sophie's Choice joke. Thanks for robbing me of my moment, Sean Whitmore.

This crossover has been really, REALLY bad so far imho. I've been really looking forward to this and its just been a huge letdown. Now I'm just looking forward to its end so I can get Dixon Robin and Tomasi Nightwing, and get back to how much I was enjoying both Detective and Batman before this messy thing started.

Heh, the irony here is that, IIRC, this crossover was Tomasi's idea.

Yeah, but at least he's not writing it, so I still want to see what he brings to Nightwing ;)

Plus NW will have Rags on art! Dont try and steal my hope Jim!

No way, I'm a big Rags fan.

I absolutely feel the same way. I love Ra's as a character but this has been so stupid so far. I wasn't impressed with the Batman Annual that started the whole thing, nor the "prelude," nor anything since. I feel like everyone is out of character:

- When Damien was first introduced he was not a whiny, scared little kid like he is now (he was just whiny and dangerous)
- I'm confused why Batman even cares about Talia or anything else she's doing
- Talia seems to have crossed the line from "conflicted" about being good to just being bad
- Morisson's writing doesn't even seem like Morisson etc, etc, etc.

This crossover hasn't done much at all to grab my interest, and that's such a shame because I actually liked the idea of bringing Damien into the Bat-verse (I think I was the only one who really liked Batman and Son) and now it looks like they're just going to retcon him out immediately. Why not take a risk and keep him in Batman's life for a while? To me this was a great plot device and springboard for future stories, and they're getting rid of it.

I totally agree with the person who said it's hard to write a good Ra's Al Ghoul story if you're not Denny O' Neil. Let it be known for the record that he even wrote "The Demon's Head" 2-parter on the Animated Series which was awesome.

As for this story, whatever. I'm dropping the whole thing.

Okay, I just saw today that they haven't killed off Damien (yet). I stand corrected.

... but whatever the story still sucks.

This part was much better than the previous 2 and the interlude. It wasn't great, but definately a lot better.
