ok ok ok. When loeb wrote the series it was my favorite book. I couldnt wait for the next issue to come out. But now the arc that just finished was probalyl the worst thing i ahve ever read. He made a 6 part "Epic" for no reason. The intire arc was ment to show the death of orions wife. Nothing else happened. They could of made all 6 issues and made it into 1 issue. I am soo tempted to drop this know.

Wait, the last issue is the worst comic you've ever read (which is amazing considering how many bad comics are out there), you hated the last six issues, and you're only tempted to drop the comics?

That's weird. I haven't read the title, but Burnett is one of my favorites, and Superman and Batman are characters he's been known to be fond of.

What's more amazing is that he actually sat and read through Loeb's horrible stories ("Luthor is crazy!", "Supergirl! Supergirl! Supergirl!") and liked it.

Loeb's run sucked the most. The man didn't care about DC one bit about his stories effect or non effect on the DCU after he was done. Let him stay at marvel forever.

I stopped reading this title with the introduction of Supergirl. Gave it a try but later issues just went bad. So I decided to try it again just because of the creative team behind this latest arc. And I liked it. I was expecting a lame Countdown tie-in and yet I found this storyline a really refreshing and a good New Gods story and probably the best Countdown story yet. This was not a masterpiece but it was good. Probably the best Bat/Super story in a long time.

Doubt that, you could put a competent writter in there and a WAY better artist and the first run could've done just as good with anyone esle. I'm NOT a Loeb fan, does it show?
Hell, Peter David with Carlos Pacheco on pencils would've rocked harder than Loeb/Mcguiness anyday.

Eh, this book has always been disposable fluff. DC knew from the beginning that the book was going to sell no matter what was on the inside of it. There's a reason why it's not called World's Finest, after all.

And that would be a bad thing? Hell, we also wouldn't have a Supergirl spinoff. I'm fine with both of those things happening.

And that would be a bad thing? Hell, we also wouldn't have a Supergirl spinoff. I'm fine with both of those things happening.I enjoyed Loeb and McGuinness' run, if for no other reason than it was unapologetic fun. The story had a few clear beats it was riffing off of (Supes and Bats work best as a team, Bat's representing the "Dark" and Supes representing the "light", Bruce is the brain and Clark is the muscle, etc.) and I thought Loeb a pretty good job in setting a precedent for the series with them.
Also, Edex's art was beautiful. Might be his best published work to date.
Now, the Supergirl arc doesn't hold up nearly as well, but it had a few cool moments. (Batman vs. Darkseid?!? Come on, that was cool.)

I second that sentiment, stealthwise, as Loeb/McGuinness' first S/B arc ("Public Enemies") was frankly the worst comic that I've ever read. A messy & cartoonish anticlimax to the great-up-to-that point Supes/Bats vs. Prez Lex storyline. Add to that the Supergirl arc & the "Maximums" nonsense and I think it would be better had the title just never existed to begin with.

I could live with that.

It wasn't, and isn't, that bad.
McGuinness' art alone made "Public Enemies" worth the read.

I liked the Loeb run. Public enemies was very good. The only weirdness there was after the destruction of the Kryptonite meteor. I mean, so you blow a piece of radioactive rock THE SIZE OF BRAZIL and only small, piddy meteors fall? The hell? A 100 km meteor SMASHED the Dinosaurs, and Brazil's large than that. Much larger. A 100 km meteor would be just a small piece.
I loved how he partened Superman and Bats has friends and antagonists. The best part of the title are the characterizations.
I agree that Loeb might be overrated as a writer, but his work on Superman\Batman was certainly entertaining, goofy fun.

Mcguiness' art was too cartoony for me, but nothing that bad. The writing, otoh, got really hit and miss after the 1st story. The ending was just silly. The last story was ok; much better than the last Loeb story arc. I thought it did a pretty good job of showing Supes lose his mind.

Loeb's run had it's good and bad points - I can't really fault anyone for disliking his contempt for logic and continuity. But he wrote big, loud, fun popcorn movie comics, and there was obviously an audience for that.
As far as Burnett's arc, I thought it was the best the title has been since Loeb left, though by no means perfect. It's good to see this title actually impact DCU continuity for a change instead of being a bottled "classified" story.

...I think it would be better had the title just never existed to begin with. And I'll second that sentiment.
Up until this arc, it has been the worst title I've ever read, excluding the Robin/Superboy issue. Since it's inception, I've constantly been nothing but confused, even after Loeb left. This story was the most straightforward thing that has been published in this title, which I wouldn't have said at it's start considering how all over the place the first part was.
The art was decent and suited the story. This most recent issue was a tie-in to Countdown not just for Bakka's death but for the return of Darkseid's Omega Beams, as well as the humbling of Desaad that we see played out elsewhere. And even the return of Superman from the Source was handled decently (something I thought I was going to hate). This is easily the best story I've read in this title, but that's probably because it's mostly different from what came before. It probably isn't for those who were fans of Loeb's run.

I found Loeb's early run very fun. I really enjoy Ed's art. Yes it is big and over exaggerated, but it's clean easy to follow.
I really wish they'd do away with the rotating teams and put a consistent writer artists team on for a good number of issues.
