Can anyone give me the details of why DJ didn't finish the project?
Was it a deadline issue?Creative disagreement?

I vaguely recall hearing something about him not being able to complete the work within the time period allotted -- which is why Killian Plunkett (a vastly underatted artist, along with Yvel Guichet) -- adopted a Johnsonesque style for the remainder of the work.

It was delayed years and years Johnson just couldn't do it.

Am I missing something? The series was finished, wasn't it? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman:_Red_Son)

The series was finished by Kilian Plunkett, yes. Johnson stopped at some point.

Kudos to Killian Plunkett though. I've looked for the change in artists in the book and I can't find it!

Seconded. I'm pretty stumped as to where the change actually happens myself. :p

It is not easy to notice when reading the individual issues, because of the time that passed between each of them.
In the trade you could tell the difference in the art.
I like Johnson's art but in the end you should not have noticed because the story is so strong.
