Hey all,
I'm going to the Con in Chicago and really want to take this with me to get it signed, but I'm really frustrated, the only place I can find it is selling it for $50 (Canadian, but still) and although I know it's worth it, I'm getting ripped via the exchange rate, and the jerks give no discounts, either...
Either way - I've tried searching for online places that may sell this, but the closest is DCBS, which gives very "vague" shipping details. I can be patient and wait to get it until the first week in August, but I just need to KNOW I'll have it in my hands then (I can have it shipped to the address I'll be at in Chicago)
Really frustrating, and I'm not sure what to do - anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations?
Thanks!
Nick
Just wait and buy it AT the Kirkman booth in Chicago for $35. You'll get it signed and sketched in if ya want.

You're crazy, of COURSE i want :D I was just worried there wouldn't be enough there, they'd sell out, etc., etc., etc. Especially with me not being there until Saturday, I just didn't want to risk it.
But hey, horses mouth, I'll take it from that!! ;)
Much thanks man! Look forward to seeing your scrawl in there ;)

After several people demanded that I buy Invincible I went out and bought the Hardcover. I liked it very much. As of now not the masterpiece everybody wants to make it but great superhero stories old school style. Reminded me how cool Spider-Man was before David Michelinie left the title.
I'm looking forwrd to the second HC.
And the art was great, too.

I actually was able to snag one (which I'll take with me, and potentially pick another one up for a friend's birthday present while I'm there) and damn.
Damn.
It's HEAVY.
And good!
AND man, the Invincipals, godly! If they ever actually DID come out, I'd buy 'em in a second!

Hi!
Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I have an Invincible question. Specifically, I'm not sure what my Trade Paperbacks actually contain.
TPB #1 ("Family Matters") says on the inside of the cover that it collects Invincible issues 1-4, and indeed there are 4 chapters in the trade. No problem.
Similarly, TPB #2 ("Eight Is Enough") says on the inside that it collects issues 5-8 and again there are 4 chapters in the trade. Cool.
However, TPB #3 ("Perfect Strangers") claims to collect issues 9-12, but there are 5 chapters. Is this trade also collecting issue 13? I did an online search for a review of issue 13 and the last chapter in TPB #3 does seem to correspond.
Finally, TPB #4 ("Head Of The Class") claims to collect issues 14-19 and some summer special comic. There are indeed 7 chapters, which seems to correspond. However I can't determine if that last chapter is issue 20, or some kind of 19a thing, or what. I mean, just what is the continuity and number of the "summer special comic" that is collected?
So .... what exactly do I have in the last 2 trades? Will TPB #5 start with isssue 20 or 21?
To be more on topic with the thread, I really love Invincible. I bought all 4 trades yesterday after reading reviews about the comic last week. Great stuff, I'm enjoying it. I often dont identify with the main character, he is just a little too "bland" for my tastes. I mean, I like him, but he is almost too much the generic hero, high school issues or not. HOWEVER, I still really like him. However, I'll just say its really the supporting cast and side characters that keep me intrigued. I really like the Battle Beast and Monster Girl. I kinda wish they'd do more with Dupli-Kate. I like the Furnace (tho he is a push over) but I wish he looked clunky like the Captain Furnace pre-cursor in the sketches collected at the end of TPB #4.
I dont see the mechanism for doing spoilers I've seen in this thread, but I'm interface-challenged. So I have one comment that could be a minor spoiler for people who are brand new to things :

I wish the issue with the underwater marriage had been more Silver Age and/or over the top. I wish Invincible had married her and then done the whole Maud Dib thing (but in reverse) and married her and started a line of descendents in the aquans, but then he could go back to the surface world and live his normal life most of the time, leaving the guy who loved the Queen to be her lover. I mean, both approaches have been done in comics before but with the tone of the book and Mark's casual but determined ability to shoulder all the crazy stuff he does, I wish they'd just taken the marriage route. It would remind me of some short piece about a man and a dolphin woman being in love on this water world when his space-ship crashed there, back in some old issue of Eerie, Creepy, Starlog, or one of those type magazines back in the day. I just wanted that over-the-top zany. Mark could still do all the normal relationship struggles among humans. Mating with the Aquan would be probably so surreal to him that he could still have all his normal relationship angst that maybe they plan for him, but then they could just drop the bomb on his friends that he was married, or give his aquan sons some 2 month gestation period and suddenly while making out and doing college homework his heirs could drop by for a visit. :)
OK, sorry. :) It would be cool tho.
Anyway, great comic.

Vol. 3 does indeed reprint 9-13. I guess it's just a typo in their fine print. And the last story in Vol. 4 (the "summer special comic") was not from the actual Invincible series, but just a short story from an anthology-type comic published by Image (probably a special produced in the summer...sorry I don't have the actual title). The short piece was reprinted in the back of the Invincible series in the early 20s.

I think it'd be cool to have Firebreather guest star. I liked their banter in The Pact, and I'd like to see some of the events of The Pact actually be reflected in the titles.

Good issue. The Science Dog reveal was great and funny. I love Kirkman just acknowledging the huge absurdity of the situation. It's also nice to know he's a smart enough writer to mention early on in the issue to mention Mark is a fan of the Science Dog comic. Most writers wouldn't bother.
Also wondering what the twist is in Nolan's appearance. SHould be interesting I thought he wouldn't show up for a while.
I like the backups a lot. Immortal's was cool in it's simplicity and revelation he's Abraham Lincoln was great. Rex's backup gives a nice insight into his character and I really dug the Atom Eve backup. Is that pre scar Cecil that's arguing with the doctor in the beginning? I don't recall Cecil's last name being mentioned.
And the Science Dog back up was great if only we could see Cory Walkers art. Makes me wish there was a regular Science Dog book seems like a fun read.

Actually, I think Cecil's last name is Stedman. It's in I think #21. But the dude sure does look like him, and nothing says he couldna changed his name, what with being a secret spy dude and all.
Nick Fury's name was Herman Cranscowitz before he got into the military, after all.

That sucks he changed it. Herman Cranscowitz: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be so awesome.

I agree with Grant that a Science Dog one-shot or even as a back up story in the regular Invincible title would be so cool. This is what "special"/"anniversity' issues should be like: quick pacing, indepth stories, an exciting cliffhanger and great back up stories!

didn't think this lived up to its hype--but the hype was huged. still top-notch stuff. best superhero stuff out there. My major gripe is:
TOO MANY STORYLINES AND NOT ENOUGH RESOLUTION!!! My god--he added another story line! and the only other one that progressed was the robot saga (maybe the missing roomate deal.)

I just got the first trade of the series and it was actually quite good, which was a surprise, given that I thought that both Marvel Team-Up and Walking Dead were mediocre titles.
Does it get any better with the second trade and beyond?

Yes, it gets better. Vols. 2 & 3 are much stronger IMO than Vol. 1. But I loved Vol. 1, TWD and MTU as well, so my opinion might not be relevant.

I get what you're saying. I feel like he's going somewhere with all these plotlines though he's just allowing things to play out. It doesn't quite feel like a Claremont book yet where you feel like the plotlines will never resolve.
The Defenestrator

What I really like is the way Kirkman's been giving resolution to crap you'd never expect. I really never gave a second thought to the idea of seeing the Burger Mart trash or Mark's graduation cap again, and the very fact that they were brought back, even for very short gags, shows a commitment to resolving any dangling plotline issues, no matter how big or small. Hell, just look at the little 1 - 3 page stories about the team members! I woulda been perfectly content not knowing every small detail about them, but I am very impressed with the level of thought and story possibilities that have been revealed in #25.
Hey everyone, I'm thinking of buying the trades 1-4 of this book. If I get those trades how far back will I be in this series?

I just recently got turned on to Invincible. I was a fan of the Walking Dead and thought I'd see what Kirkman was doing with this superhero comic everyone is raving about. I picked up the 1st TPB on speculation and was blown away! How cool is this book?!?! That same night I promptly ordered TPBs 2-4 on amazon and waited patiently to continue the story. Got them today and snap!!! It just keeps getting better. I've read TPBs 2 and 3 and then noticed that the begginning of TPB 4 starts with issue 14.TPB 3 ends with issue 12. Where is issue 13? What happens in issue 13? And why isn't it included in the TPBs? If anybody could fill me in I would be eternally gratefull.

Nevermind I was wigging out for nothing. Although the small print in the copyright section of TPB #3 says reprinting issues 9-12, TPB #3 actually reprints issues 9-13. So nevermind.

Just read issues 25 and 26. One thing I love about this comic is the fact that anything can happen at any time. I was NOT expecting Nolan / Omni-Man to appear anytime soon! I can not stress how awesome this comic is and hope to get more people reding it.

At the moment, my LCS only orders one copy of Invincible specifically for me. I've been thinking of asking him to order a few extra copies for the next few months to see if other people will get into it, and offer to buy the extra copies if no one picks them up. I want more people to get into this series, because it's so awesome!

Let's talk issue #26....
Is Nolan telling the whole truth about how he came to the insectoid planet and took over the place? He doesn't seem to be lying, but obviously he's rather good at that kind of deception.
What does he expect from Mark when the Viltrumites arrive?
Yeesh, he wasn't kidding about moving on, was he? According to Nolan, the Viltrumites age slower the older they get, and he himself claims to be thousands of years old. What does this mean for Mark's brother?
I'm guessing that Mark's brother will rapidly age to somewhere near Mark's age (from his insectoid heritage) and then his Viltrumite genetics will keep him at that physical age.
Will Mark get along with his brother?

I think that one of the reasons that I love Erik Larsen's and Robert Kirkman's writings so much is because of the plotting. They DO indeed follow the pattern of setting things up that take years to play out (like Claremont), but they DO play out.
Although, I'm still waiting for Erik to getting around to Imposter's sordid past hinted at in SAVAGE DRAGON#48, from 1998...

No, no. Imposter (disguised as Captain Jose Mendosa) was talking to Horde and was referred to as "Alvin". Presumably, Alvin is Imposter's real name. What did he do that was bad enough that exposure from his existing ruse would terrify him?

I am so angry that I didn't hear about this series until the 25 cent issue came out because I am too cheap. Everyone on this forum needs to be more vocal about this book so that people like me can get the point sooner. I am not sure yet, but I think this may be the most innovative comic I've read since the Lee Kirby times. It has that same sense of imagination and it just puts me in awe every issue i read now. I don't see how anyone could read this book and not love it, so I hope more people catch on and that Robert Kirkman makes a buttload of money and writes this series til issue 500!

I was absolutely ecstatic to see Invincible TPB 5 out today! It was due out like months ago but "a little late" is better then "really late" which is of course better then "Battlechasers" ... also known as never:( (... sorry Mad! I really thought it was a great series but you totally went boneheaded and dropped it... and then tri-lunar tanked too! Boo-urns for you I'm afraid!)
Anyways, this series is still one of my favourites, one of the few I collect religously. I still do the Ultimate X-Men and Spiderman lines, if only because I'm so invested already... Anyways, my one complaint would be that there's soooo many subplots coming and going that you have to remember them all! lol But intricacy is not necessarily a bad thing... it's just bad when I don't want to think.
And the Big Ben Burger Mart saga is still thrilling as always!

I have to admit that I've been very impressed with this series ever since I got the second tpb. Kirkman has resisted the urge to go completely "silver age" or "grim and gritty", instead opting for an interesting amalgam that basically demands the attention of superhero fans. It's nice to see a quality title like this build a fanbase.

I'm just across the river in Collinsville, IL, but it's like a 15 min drive over to U City.
Ryan said he hated that cover so much that he sold the origial to some guy for 20 bucks. Then the guy sold it on eBay for like, $150.
Another interesting tidbit, my friend had Kirkman sign Marvel Team Up #1, and Kirkman actually seemed really disinterested in MTU. He gave my friend the Spanish Inquisition over whether or not he was reading Invincible, then tried to sell him the hardcover. It was pretty funny, but if I can't fault him because if I were publishing stuff, I'd want people to read my origianl works more than my Marvel work any day of the week.
Man, I wanted to ask him so much stuff about Ult. X-Men too, but yeah, I didn't want to be a Kirkman Hog.
I got to meet them too, and it was so awesome! I got some stuff signed and everything. So cool. What did you get signed?
I have to admit that I've been very impressed with this series ever since I got the second tpb. Kirkman has resisted the urge to go completely "silver age" or "grim and gritty", instead opting for an interesting amalgam that basically demands the attention of superhero fans. It's nice to see a quality title like this build a fanbase. You hit the nail on the head. I don't think I could have described it better myself. I love the way Crabtree's bright colors contrast with the way blood and teeth go everywhere when people get punched in the face. Really, it's like it's own genre of Superhero comic. And as far as I'm concerned, it seriously sets the bar higher for everyone else.

Another interesting tidbit, my friend had Kirkman sign Marvel Team Up #1, and Kirkman actually seemed really disinterested in MTU. It was pretty funny, but if I can't fault him because if I were publishing stuff, I'd want people to read my origianl works more than my Marvel work any day of the week.
I'm not disinterested in Marvel Team-Up at all. Quite the opposite actually. Whenever someone comes up with ONLY Marvel stuff... I ask if they're reading the Image stuff. And when people come up with ONLY Image stuff, I ask them if they're reading the Marvel stuff.
I'm just trying to make sure everyone is AWARE I'm doing other stuff. I'm not trying to sell my creator-owned stuff over my Marvel stuff.

Ok, so I just think I should tell you what an awesome day I've had.
Today I met Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley
And it was mega awesome.
Ottley drew a pic of Atom Eve for me, Kirkman talked to me about what he's going to do w/ Jean Grey in Ultimate. And we argued about Invincible's girlfriend Amber. It was way fun. Oh, and we high-fived. And got a pic w/ them!!!
I think I was behind you in line.
It was great. Ottley drew me a couple sketches of the Mauler Twins (one for me and one for my brother) and Kirkman wrote dialogue on them. Kirkman also sketched me a mullet-clad zombie, which was excellent as well. They seemed like great guys and seemed to really enjoy interacting with fans. it was a lot of fun.

I think Mark will be able to beat the Viltrumite. His powers have grown a lot since he took on his dad last, and Nolan said these Viltrumites were the second-stringers, so Mark should be able to take him. It's going to be brutal, though.

The simple explanation? Well, it was a book that Kirkman was pitching that never got picked up. So, instead he introduced Science Dog into Invincible as Mark's(Invincible) favorite comic book character. In the Invincible universe Science Dog is a fictional comic book character, he doesn't "exist."

Even so, this issue rocked really really hard, especially the pair of two page action spreads. I might have stopped reading comics by now if it weren't for this book. I was kidding man, he's not a rip-off of Skeletor. He was designed first WITHOUT a skullface, the skull face put there to show that he wasn't fully powered up yet, There was small changes to his face, like lips were appearing and that kind of thing when he started to regain more power. So what other characteristics were similar to Skeletor besides a skull face?

A little belated, but thanks for the update and congrats on the new baby.
I think that absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder as issue #28 was great! The six (or so) pages leading up the dramatic left-hand splash page were comic book art at its finest. Great job! Cliff Rathburn also deserves a pat on the back as well. I was concerned about how his inks would affect your pencils, but I'm happy to say that I could discern no differences in the art from issue #27.

I think your problem is that you picked a strange time to come into the series.
#23-24, are both setting up for future storylines.
The current storyline, Different World (#25-28), is playing off the events of issue #10-13. If you don't know the history of Mark and Nolan, I can see how this storyline would not be as interesting to you. Kirkman took ten issues to build up this great father/son relationship and then "totally flipped the script" on us. I really got to suggest read the first 13 issues, then reread the issues you got.
As for the "young spidey wanna be", there are elements of that. Some elements of Superman; the JLA & Avenger. Kirkmans strenght ,as I see it, is taking the best elements of comics storytelling and blending them together in a new way.
Kirkman has a new edition of Buy My Book that has a preview of Invincible #29, Walking Dead, MTU, Battle Pope, Ultimate X-men, and Marvel Zombies

question: what is with the extra stuff at the end? the capes stuff. I am not a fan of this and I buy this for invincible only--then without much warning I run into this. kirkman's got this masterpiece set up with so many plots/subplots and future plots that he doesn't need this stuff in the end. so I guess my question:
is this 'capes' stuff just extra? why is it there? does it take away from the invincible story in terms of production cost, etc?

Hey Chris, Capes is just an extra, just like how Invincible use to have Benito and Nate back-ups, now it has Capes back-ups. Capes does take place in the same universe as Invincible though. If you don't like it, just skip it. No big deal. The book would still cost the same wether it's there or not.

thanks. It is not that I don't like it -- it is just that I am in that invincible groove, slobbering all over the comic thinking about all the plot possibilities.. then it just ends. and then there is capes--which I haven't 'gotten into.'

WOOHOO! Thanks a bunch. If I only were computer savvy.
who is The Imortal, Omni-Man, and Invinicble parading?
Parading? Is that the verb form of parade?
I am going to assume you mean parodying, I wouldn't say they are parodies of anyone or anything. Sure there are similarities to other character, based on their powers that would be Superman. But that is about it.

It is difficult to avoid copying Superman, because he is the archetype for the classic superhero. The epidome of a super hero is a super strong man in a cape who flys, has a secrete identity and a weakness.
In addition, he has so many friggin powers its difficult to avoid sharing some element with him. Example- Daredevil could be argued to be copying Superman's super hearing.

thanks. It is not that I don't like it -- it is just that I am in that invincible groove, slobbering all over the comic thinking about all the plot possibilities.. then it just ends. and then there is capes--which I haven't 'gotten into.'
ignore me--this is all just a symptom of my terminal invincible craving--I am currently in the 'paronoia' stage where I think that the comic publishers are trying to truncate my invincible experience.
I find Capes to be more enjoyable if I read a bunch of them at once, the little backups do nothing for me. But.... string them together in one sitting, and I find them to be quite enjoyable.
I'm weird.
Anyway, this book rocks.
I think it helps to have read the Capes 3 issue series to understand the Backups.....
Invincible continues to be fantastic with #30.
It starts with Mark helping to rebuild the alien world. The now-ruling Queen Andressa sends him away in a new spaceship, which has taken them a month to build because they needed to rediscover the necessary technology.
Andressa tells Mark to take his brother with him, because she won't live much longer but the kid (who is now a toddler, and can say "Brother") will live for centuries, and it will take generations for him to even grow to adulthood.
Back on Earth, Mark's mum is talking to Eve - who's worried about Mark - on her mobile. She confuses Eve with Amber, though, but says she's glad that Eve is doing what she's doing. She hangs up and opens the door to the house, where Mark is waiting. They hug and Mark tells her about Nolan and his brother. Mark hopes that she'll raise the kid and explains his situation.
Cut to the new Mauler clone, who has cloned himself. The two clones talk about whether they're first or second generation clones, and are about to get to work on something when Robot appears. He has a job for them.
Back at the Grayson house, Cecil calls Mark over to the Pentagon. Cecil tells Mark that he'll set up his mother and brother with official adoption papers and holographic equipment so he can pass as human and so on, and then Mark and Cecil argue, because Cecil is angry that Mark left Earth against his orders, saying that he pays Mark to do a job, and he hasn't been doing it. He tells Mark about the Omnipotus attack, but Mark says that the other heroes handled it just fine, and it was far more important that he save an entire alien world. Mark ends up storming off because he thinks he did the right thing.
Mark's next stop is to see William, mostly because he needs to change out of his tunic into some real clothes. William and Mark joke about, and William says that Mark hasn't missed anything he can't catch up on. Their friend Rick is still missing, unsurprisingly.
The final stop is Amber. Amber is both happy and pissed. She doesn't want to break up with Mark, but she's really upset that he could just leave her for two months.
And that's the issue. The Capes backup is about the first Chronodile attack, and ends with the heroes seeing that he's back.

Haven't read the issue yet, and quite looking forward to it, but I just have to say, nice post Jack, very thorough... or so I assume. Regardless, informative.I just tried to get the key events across. There's more to the issue, of course.
The next issue has Mark (and possibly Amber) visit Eve in Africa, which is something I've been waiting for, so I'm excited. I still suspect that Eve is going to come back and be Amber's roommate, and make some sort of effort towards getting Mark to be with her, since it was mentioned that the girl who was supposed to be Amber's roommate suddenly dropped out at the last minute and disappeared, and I always figured it was Eve for that reason.

this comic is actually coming out at a quick pace now. oh yah.
1. i'm slowly getting 'into' capes. slowly
2. invincible is the best comic out there. I think there are 3 keys to this
a. the artwork fits the genre to a "T. " comic-bookish, fun, clearly drawn with some humor.
b. the pacing is dead-on
c. the author continues to tease with future plots and then delivers on them.
3. with regards to who the characters are 'parodying'--I would say that clearly there are superman overtones here but this book has gone WAY beyond that - this is no 'tribute' to superman or a superman 'what-if' --this comic uses the 'gladiator' archetype that's for sure and does have some superman-like stuff built in (alien superman, a JLA, etc.) but my god the plots here are deep/rich and just keep coming. if ONLY superman could have this level of plots and if ONLY superman comics had this pacing.............. and this character development. this comic has more character developement at issue 30 than superman had at 300.

Invincible is closer to Spider-Man than Superman.
in terms of him being an awkward young adult superhero, yes. but in terms of flying, have ultra level superstrength and likely developing into a nearly invulnerable superfast being with almost limitless strength and the product of an alien genetic code, more like superman.
perhaps: invincible is most like superboy--the original, silver age superboy. but in reality, he is much much much much deeper

It was 50 cent issue that pretty much summed up the first twenty or so issues of the book. Also tied in nicely with issue 22 and 23.
But man what was with the last issue? This book is definately feeling padded lately. It's all dialogue or it's all action. It works okay for the trade but makes the monthly buying experience kind of dull. C'mon Kirkman you can do better that.

What? Padded? How? Last issue was great- after all of the awesome fighting (certainly the biggest, most impactful action scene the book has seen so far) I think the story need to slow down and catch its breath for a minute before picking up pace again. All these loose plots needed to be attended to before we forgot about them.
And for fans of Superhero drama (like me), this issue was a blast! I love Atom Eve, and this little love triangle here is going to get very sticky in a moment. spoiler: Who's dumb idea was it anyway to tell Mark he could bring Amber with him to Africa?

The whole "You named yourself Spider-Man? That's kind of obvious, don't you think?" gag was amusing enough. I understand why Kirkman would want to repeat the joke with Superman. But here's the thing...
Mark's dad's superhero name was Omni-Man. Mark is nigh-invulnerable and he named himself Invincible. So Mark and his family ain't too bright when it comes to superhero names either.

You are referring the first two Hardcovers, right? If so, Volume 3 hasn't been solicited yet. Each volume contains about 12 issues worth of material so I would assume that maybe the next one will contain material through issue #36 (or wherever there is a viable stopping point). Issue #36 hasn't shipped yet so I would assume that we won't see the next one until mid-2007? That's all just speculation on my part though...

I was under the impression that the HC has the bonus stuff from the TPB + lots of extra stuff. It may be time for me to pop in to the Image Kirkman boards to see what the true answer to this is.
I agree with needing an Invincible fix - I buy the Hardcovers, but have been getting it in monthly form since the beginning.

Alright. What about issue #36, though? I just got it today - it was really a nice, smooth read. The interaction with the Gaurdians of the Globe was great, as was William's plan. It was so believable that he came up with this idea to find Rick.
My personal favorite part of the issue definitely has to go to Shapesmith introducing himself to the Gaurdians/the thing he pulled with Doc Seismic.

I like that Kirkman is mining the relationship between the two adults trapped in kids' bodies. There's lots of potential humor there and I don't think I've seen it before. I also like that she finds the guy kind of annoying and should be utterly creeped out by his stalker status, but she's so desperate for someone to relate to that she's actually going for the guy.
And Ottley's drawing of that jaw punch made me say "Ow!"

God damn I love this book.
Is it just me or is shit about to hit the fan pretty soon? God I cant wait.
I can't stand Amber, I really cant, i hope this is the beginning of the end.
I had this friend who used to always shit on this book when I would read it infront of him, he wouldnt even read it he'd just say something like "looks run of the mill" as if it was just a plain old super hero book. I never argued with him, I just let it be. If he wanted to be a hater, go be a hater, know what I mean?
Flash foward and me and him both get into The Walking Dead at the same time and I said to him "You should read Invincible dude. If you like the way this guy writes so much, you might like it" So I gave him all the trades I had at the time (2-5), hoping for the best.
One day he calls me and is like "This book is amazing. You were so right, I started reading the first one today and I couldnt put it down, I just read them all in one sitting."
Totally awesome.
Not to long ago he said to me "I agree with them, this is the best super hero comic in the universe." Them=what it says on the top of each comic.
Getting someone into a property you like is a cool feeling.

He's already one of them. Of course, he's going to prove himself by being able to defeat the folks from his dad's home planet one day.
Well, Mark is mostly a top-tier hero on his Earth because the rest of them were all killed by Nolan. It'd be like if the JLA died and the Teen Titans took over for them.

True, but the man on the street is more likely to have heard of/have respect for veteran superheroes like Savage Dragon, SuperPatriot, The Immortal, Doc Noble, etc. than Invincible at present. Give him a few more years, and he'll be up there.

Some ramndom questions, just for the hell of it...
What do you guys think of Amber? I cant stand her, and I dont know why, but I just can't. She seems all wrong for him. Do you think she's gonna end up as Mark's own Gwen Stacy?
Do you think Mark will ever end up with Eve? or is that something so obvious that Kirkman would never do it?
Ever get the feeling that William is gonna turn on Mark one day? Not so much these days but for a while I used to think it was inevitable.

I don't see anything to dislike about Amber, but I don't see much to like about her either. She doesn't have much personality. But maybe Mark's attracted to her because she's so vanilla in his stressful and chaotic world.

>>>>What do you guys think of Amber? I cant stand her, and I dont know why, but I just can't. She seems all wrong for him. Do you think she's gonna end up as Mark's own Gwen Stacy?<<<<
Yes, eventually. I like Amber, she seems ok. She's been pretty patient with Mark considering everything that's been thrown her way. She's not done anything thus far for me to dislike her.
>>>>Do you think Mark will ever end up with Eve? or is that something so obvious that Kirkman would never do it?<<<<
If they ever decide to go out, I reckon Eve will end up killed. Just to piss on Mark's chips (uh, fries).
>>>>Ever get the feeling that William is gonna turn on Mark one day? Not so much these days but for a while I used to think it was inevitable.<<<<
I hope not. William's such a refreshing character in comics. He's still excited as hell over the fact that his best friend is a superhero. It seems that most guys friends with heroes don't really seem to give a crap. William's best friend can fly, I know if mine could I'd be bugging him for flights all the time. It'd rule!

Amber I don't like. Never have. I think she is decent yes but she just rubs me the wrong way.
As for William, I think something is gonna happen with him also. He is gonna get himself hurt and probable blame Mark.

I don't think that Amber has the fortitude that Mark's Mom has. I think she and Mark will ultimately break up. Now that she is in college, she will have many guys showing interest in her and willing to pay attention to her. When compared to Mark's track record, it will not bode well for him. Plus, Mark also has to consider/deal with what future Eve told him about how present Eve feels about him.

So 38 is another very fine issue. Kirkman touches on lots of old plot points.
I don't understand why Allen the alien's strength has increased. What'd they do to him?
And maybe Amber will be out of the picture soon. That's what you get for giving your man the blue balls I guess.

Allen's power is similar to Mark's in that it increases when he undergoes significant stress (ie Mark exercising, Allen being nearly beaten to death). The Official Handbook explains it better by describing "smart atoms". They really put a lot into the development of super-powers in the Invincible Universe.
I think what Eve said is really starting to hit home for Mark. I think he is beginning to see that Amber and him live in two different worlds. She can't truly understand his life. Her friends can't either, but then they don't know the truth about him. Plus, I think he feels if she has someone interested in her, there isn't any reason he shouldn't have the same thing. Ultimately, he will have to make a choice between the two. Eve will not stand for him two-timing her. Ultimately, it's a no-brainer for me. Eve all the way!!!

Damn right!
Oh, and isnt Allen stronger because he got torn apart by a couple of Viltrumite's and was "rebuilt"?

Haha, man I dunno, it seems like she gives it up whenever he comes to visit.
Well except the last time but, you know, women.

Wow im amaazed at how many people think mark is going to eventually hook up with eve. Also to answer the person who posed the question as to why allen seems stronger, isnt one of his abilities similar to doomsday, like when he "Dies" or "gets knocked the fuck out" he gets stronger after that fight
MythicBrawn

He is similar to Doomsday. They put him back together but didn't give him any upgrades. The properties of "smart atoms" explains why Allen is stronger. I don't know if Mark will wind up with Eve but I would much prefer it. I don't think I could stand to watch another Superman-Lois relationship, even if they are teenagers.

Does anyone know what the overall theme of invincible is supposed to be?
sgt pepper
01-30-2007, 06:11 AM
Is there one?
Probably something about transformation (into a superhero, from a kid to an adult, from a rookie into a veteran).
There are lots of others about appearances being deceiving, responsibility, family, friends, finding love, power, etc.

Or how about in 100 years Mark is supposed to have the planet ready for enslavement or face a severe ass-kicking?

That sounds like more of a conflict than a theme. But I'm not really sure what the poster is asking as the word theme is used in many different ways.
I don't know if Mark will wind up with Eve but I would much prefer it.Amen.
It's not that I dislike Amber, it's just that I don't particularly like her, either.

Besides this thread, do any of you guys know other good Invincible threads?
About the Amber-Eve "debate"...I think that Eve is better for Mark because she can relate to Mark more and when they're together, it's like there's just that weird (in a good way) connection.
Here's a cool pic of Eve and Mark's weird connection!

I think they give each other blue balls. It was bound to happen. How many high school r-ships last when the two people graduate to college? And, add to the fact that they're going to different schools? Hopefully, Mark does not catch Amber and dude in the act. An angry Mark is not a good thing. Ask the guy whose jaw Mark broke.

Aw, c'mon now. That would be hard on even the most faithful and devoted. He's gone all the time and his life's frequently at risk. It's asking an awful lot from her--cut her some slack.

I...I just cant. It was like the straw that broke the camels back, as soon as I saw the scene I wanted to scream.
I could understand her being mad and possibly breaking up with Mark, but the very next thing she does is call the other guy? Grrr

I'm with you, even if she turns out to have a good reason for calling the guy, she definitely doesn't look good right now.
I'm also not sure exactly what sort of relationship Amber is planning to have with Mark once she and everyone else on the planet has been enslaved by aliens.
