You are an awesome artist Charles. I tried my best to get people to vote for you, but I guess I didn't do a good enough job. :(

You were far and away superior to everyone else talent-wise and I hope to see you get your big break soon. Thanks for being such a humble guy and being such a good person in the whole competition. You have a lot more sportsmanship than most.

See you on Ten Ton! You made us proud getting this far.

You know I have to admit I had never heard of any of the top 10 before the list was announced. Most of them I didn't even remember from the submissions round. But as the rounds went on I saw each of your strengths and saw just why you had been selected.

As far as you go, I think your number one strength is your natural storytelling ability. Each round you managed to add little touches to the story that didn't conflict with what the writer intended but managed to add to the depth of the pages.

Your rendering abilities are nothing to overlook either. I still say one of my favorite panels from the whole competition was your last panel from the third page of the Fathom assignment.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot from you in the near future!

Thanks, guys! It's been awesome seeing a lot of familiar faces on here as well as a whole bunch of new ones.
I hope I get some new work in front of all of you before too long, be it the sketch challenge or otherwise!

Great job Charles. I thought you delivered the best work overall throughout the the competition. Job well done.

Kudos on smoking the rest of us into the last round, CP. The sky's the limit for you now!

I hate when I back the losing horse. You've disgraced your friends, your family, your pets, your future children, your garbage man, and yourself. Atleast now I think we both know for sure who was right about Darth Vader fighting Cyclops.

Oh, wait...I think I'm supposed to say something nice...you have very pretty eyes, Charlie.

You totally owned the Legion pages! You draw extremely well. Hopefully the folks at DC thought so as well and will keep you in mind for some fill ins. Good luck to you!

Congrats Charles! Just remember, second place is just first loser! Jk of course:) It was great to see you get the exposure you deserve man...You really did your fellow Kubies proud. Every week I was extremely impressed at the level of detail and overall finishedness(if thats a word) of your work...Plus you lettered everything!!! Hy Eisman would be proud...But you're a madman!! Seriously though, you obviously worked your ass off in this competition, and I look forward to seeing your Aspen story published:)

You KNOW I'm gonna buy every book you make from now on! Can't wait to see more stuff....and I *KNOW* there's gonna be more....!

You hear that? That's the knock of opportunity...or the bill collector. Either way, you know what to do! Open the door and start swingin!

Mr. Editor (should there be someone watching):

Hire this man! He made the STIFF, very stressful (public) deadlines. He made the pages work fantastically WITHOUT having editorial guidance. Through talking online with him I've found he has already been schooled in sequential design and ALREADY has a following. It wouldn't even be taking a chance.

Great showing man. All things happen for a reason. Take the exposure from this contest and make the most out of it. Your an incredible talent and an incredibly hard worker. Can't wait to see you in print.

Way to go CPWIII!!! Second place is not bad (unlike that loser McDaid:evilsmile)

But i think overall you are the best, great storytelling chops and a very mainstream friendly style. Your Round 2 assignment was a personal favourite and can't wait to see it published. Your Legion story was wonderful, loved the sense of danger with the kid on a bridge and how you spotted the blacks.

I think you will have a great future in the industry. Good luck CPWIII!!!:)

You cheeky sod! You know that nice thing I just said in the play at home thread? Well you can totally forget that. :D

Congratulations Charles! I thought you were going to win this hands down, but the silver medal is more tasteful than the gold anyway. My prediction: you're working on Teen Titans or JLA before you know it.

Good luck C3PO!

Charles,
I know this contest hasn't been going for many years but this is the first time I've voted for the same artist every single round. Your work was consistently strong and exciting right from the starting gate. I really hope the exposure from this gets you working in comics soon, because based on what I've seen I'd continue to "vote" for you with my hard earned dollars. Great job man.

Charles,

All I can say is wow man. I missed out on the votes, and you would've had mine, but I really, really appreciate your art, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the professional world. You have a great style, and throughout this competition you have been a class act. Great job.

Charles, you rocked this contest. You had me sold with that 'what matters most' piece and I've been cheering for you ever since. Keep up the good work and I most definitely look forward to seeing more of your work in the big leagues.

When CPWIII was a child everyone kept saying that they thought he was autistic and CPWIII thought they were saying artistic. So he saved every penny he could, including his lunch money to take art lessons. One day on the way to his first lesson this guy named Jimmy sold him a pencil, not just any pencil, but a magic pencil with a big number 2 on it. CPWIII thought "Golly, this must be predicting my future. I should strive to be #2." ...and sure enough...

Just fooling my friend. I'm not worthy to sharpen your pencils.

Congratulations on a strong finish and terrific artwork.

I mean really, what were you going to do with an all expense paid trip to the city anyway? Although, it would have been a cheap way out for the folks at CBR;)

Charles Paul Wilson III, you are a fantastic artist, and I cannot wait to see where your talent and steadfast determination take you.

Good job Chris on making it all the way to the end. I see you as the Clay Aiken of this competition....no wait... that didn't sound right :p

The Chris Daughtry maybe?....

I was rooting for you the whole way, and I tried to get appx. 200 people to vote for you in the finals, even offering my classes pizza parties, donuts, buckets of chicken. To know that it came down to 10 more votes and you'd have won...well, it made me sick for a couple of days, I have to admit. You've been a champ through all of this, a gentlemen and a professional, and there's only really one way to properly celebrate...have me write you a kick-ass story to draw which will make us famous and rich.

However that's done...

Hip hip to Charles! To democracy!

Thanks, everyone! It was extremely nice of you to take the time to
comment in this thread, and I really do appreciate your thoughts on my
work and support throughout the duration of the contest. I'll do my
best to bring something valuable to the table and I hope you enjoy
anything I have to offer you in the future.
My fellow contestants are terrific illustrators and I look forward to
to their published works in the future! Can't wait to see what they do
and I really do hope I meet them in the future, as well as any of you
(so if you see my name on a table at a convention, please feel free to
stop by and say hello!)
The judges offered really good advice regarding our work, and to any
fellow aspiring artists - take a note from their book! The editors
shared what they expect to see in our portfolios should we want any
work from them, and the artists who offered critiques gave their
advice and expertise based on numerous years of experience (so it
really couldn't hurt to implement it in our own work and library of
skills!)
I'd also like to take a second and remind everyone who has any
interest in drawing to join in on the sketch challenges at
tentonstudios.com (http://tentonstudios.com). It's a
weekly sketch challenge I like to participate in and features a wide
array of talent ranging from professional, published artists to your
average joe who might like to doodle on the side. I have a lot of fun
over there, my fellow members there have a great attitude, are awesome
artists and with the critiques on the art provided by everyone who
participates it's almost like receiving free lessons for those pushing
to become better at what they want to do (whether they're working
towards building a stonger foundation or working out the kinks in the
aesthetic quality of their illustration.)

And again, many thanks to everyone who kept me in the game all the way
to the end. It's been an enjoyable experience and I seriously couldn't
have done it without you!

Kind of late, but still... congratulations, Charles! Your work was the first to hit me right in round 1 (I already knew Caio's work and only saw LaFrance's after... huh) so you were my first discovery in CBI 3 and you really deserved to get this far on the game! I hope everything works out so I can soon enough buy something with your name on!

It's really hard for me to think up anything to say coz I was really hoping the Idol would go to you. All the best and hope you get somewhere which offers you money with the exposure you got here.

Keep on pencilin'!
