Adam Hughes is drawing the first arc of All Star Wonder Woman. He is the first to admit that he is not the fastest artist on the planet, and that it will probably take him at least a couple of months to draw each issue. Hughes wants the entire series in the can before DC published the first issue, so it can come out monthly. As I understand it, to insure that, Hughes is either handing in the issues to DC out-of-order, or perhaps even drawing them out-of-order, with issue #1 going to DC last, so there's absolutely no way DC can start publishing it before he is finished. Clever solution to the problem. Unfortunately, he's probably one of the few artists with the clout to get away with it.

The big effect of shipping late right now, that wasn't mentioned, is that it really puts me (and I have trouble believing it's just me) off buying individual issues. These days I want to read stories, because comics are almost always written as multi story arcs and don't make any sense read individually.
If I've got naff all idea how long the story's going to take so come out I'll wait for the trade. And yes, I know that sometimes I'll never get to see the story because it'll trail off half way through, but then a story I only read half of sucks anyhow. But still, that seems to be happening increasingly rarely - Marvel & DC pretty much put everything they publish out as trades, even after they've canceled the monthly book. IDW and Oni seem about the same. Don't really know about Boom. I am looking forwards to the 2 Guns trade, hoping that the publishers recognise that it's their behavior pushing me in that direction

I was a huge fan of Boom! when they first launched but their lack of timeliness has absolutely killed my interest in them. I'm glad they've started putting out trades because, as with NickPheas, I'm not even going to try to collect single issue stories that come out many months late. It's hard enough remember what happened from month to month in a comic let alone only reading the comic once every 3+ months... I hope Boom! survives (and if they do, it will be in licensing their books for other media I would guess) but it's looking highly doubtful.
On the converse, I've loved the launch of Red5 comics. So far those guys have managed to get all of their launch books out on time, as well as the second issue of Atomic Robo. Here's hoping they can keep it up.

Hell yeah we can. All 6 issues of Vol1 are "in the can". So the only thing that could delay shipping is if the slow boat from China sinks.
#3 hits shelves early in fact! Its out this Wednesday (Dec 5th I think).
The whole reason Clevinger and I opted for a series of mini-series, rather than a monthly title, is because we also hate waiting for books that should have shipped weeks and weeks ago. So while you may only get 9 or 10 issues of Atomic Robo a year, they will all ship when we say they will.
